Now I’m not a parent with a child attending but I am an Aunt who has a niece and nephew attending the karate classes. I have sat in to watch and all of the Sensei(s) are so nice and patient with the kids. In 45 minutes, they can really wear out otherwise overly energetic children. The thing that struck me the most is the change in attitude of my niece and nephew. They both seem more confident, stronger and more patient than when they first started. The transformation, though ongoing, is noticeable. On a funny note, I brought my toddler in to watch and he did start to cry at one point. Kyoshi looked very serious and said, «Sensei! You made the baby cry!» Just watching grown men, who are quite badass, freeze mid-motion was very, very funny. It just showed me how amazing and well respected she is. If I lived in the Bay Area, I would send my child here in a heartbeat.

I just joined this dojo and so far feels really good about it. I will update my review once I have more experience here. The main reason I am writing such a premature review is that almost all the other reviews came from parents. I agree that this is indeed a great place for kids, but hey, adults should consider practicing karate too! I am an adult, working full time, and I found karate helpful and fulfilling to my lifestyle. This place is very traditional and authentic. All teachers here are super kind and skilled. The practice here is also very safe, which I like a lot. Back when I was a kid, I did Tae Kon Do for many years and eventually had to quit due to injury. this is a great place for adults too!

My kids love practicing karate at Omine Dojo. The instructors are patient and kind. There’s a class geared for younger kids(sensei says…), serious classes for elementary school kids and more intense classes for teens and adults. In addition to good exercise, the lessons are always about dedication, discipline and respect.

The past meets the present at the Omine karate Dojo. Sensei Susan is the highest female black belt in Shorin Ryu and studied directly with both Sensei Nagamine(Senior) and Sensei Omine in Okinawa. With a simple comment she can clear up techniques that may have eluded you. The dojo is what you make of it, and it has all the resources to help you get where you want be. The kids learn respect and self confidence while having a good time as well.

It’s a wonderful school. My son has been taking karate here for almost a year now and he absolutely loves it. If you are looking for a karate school, check this one out. They also offer a free class to try it out.

There could not be a better place to learn. I had a studio myself, and when it closed I wanted that family approach to Karate. Not the money, and the overt trophy game. I wanted to study an art form. Well life took over and I got busy, but now my son goes and we support the Dojo through him. They are great! Two of the best people I know and I think you can’t do better than this. *Bows*

I drive from Half Moon Bay to San Bruno once a week for yoga classes here — so you know I like it! I haven’t experienced the karate classes myself, but when I stop and watch the kids before my yoga class, I’m impressed! Susan Budge brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to her dojo, and it shows.
