We just had Chimere make a tricky hard-wood closet combination-floor-and-crawlspace hatch. They did beautiful work, as usual!

Big waste of time. Shopping for flooring takes a lot of effort and we became too vested in Chimere because of large selection, seemingly friendly demeanor and product knowledge. Should have read Unilocal reviews before and cut it short much sooner. We were shopping for hardwood floor for a new house, had a good idea of the floor we needed and were very clear that we wanted either US or European made product. Many products at Chimere are privately labeled so that potential customers could not shop for the same thing elsewhere, so the information on the label is limited. After we selected the product the people at Chimere were supposed to check on the country of origin, suitability for radiant heating, current pricing and availability. Several weeks passed by, no call back. We bugged them several times and finally they said that the product we selected was made in China. We still liked the place and came back to make another selection. After making the next choice we were assured of US origin and the folks from Chimere needed to come to do the measurements. After some more delays and bugging phone calls they came on site and promised to send a proposal quickly. They also asked if we were interested in carpets. We had a sample of the carpet we wanted which we let them borrow under condition that they would mail it back to us in a couple of days. Couple more weeks passed and after some more calls they produced an estimate: just one number — total cost of installed floor. I asked to separate labor and materials and to break down the quote by every room. They refused stating that their measurements give customers an ability to shop competitively. Then they admitted that the product we selected was made in Malaysia. We became fed up and asked to return our carpet sample by mail as they promised. They never did. The whole experience lasted well over a month with multiple visits to the store to take and return samples, multiple calls and reminder emails. Terrible experience. Since then we saw similar products at lower prices and selected what we needed much faster.

Had the worst flooring experience with Chimere! We worked with Chimere in 2010 and they have yet to finish the job that they started. We contracted with them to take out the existing linoleum on the 2nd level in our home and replace it with engineered hardwood. They advised us that it was not possible to glue down the hardwood on the 2nd floor because it was wood sub-flooring and that the only way to get the job done was to nail it down. They lied to us about the approach that needed to be taken and we ended up nailing down the floor. We contacted them after the installation to inform them that there was a lot of squeaking on the floor. They sent somebody out to look at the floor and never got back to us. We followed up several times and we were given the run around. We ultimately had no choice but to get a 3rd party contractor to come fix the floors since they were squeaking ALLOVER. The 3rd party contractor asked us why we didn’t glue the floor down and we had to tell them it was the poor guidance from Chimere who advised that the floors could not be glued. The contractor was stunned by that answer and said they probably advised that because it is more laborious and more costly. Chimere is an unethical business that basically takes advantage of its customers. DONOTDOBUSINESSWITHTHESEPEOPLE!
