OFFICIALLYCLOSED Seems as if, according to the CAABC, that they failed to pay their liquor taxes, so it looks as if they are under indefinite suspension. Went past there a few weeks ago and they were closed at 7PM on a Tuesday. Not a good sign. Too bad, it was close by and adequate Q.

This place was 5 stars back when the old owner ran it — he was a true chef, and his ribs were just absolutely killer. I went back a few weeks ago and the place is… well, it’s *adequate.* I almost gave it three stars, but«Meh» just about describes it. It’s too bad; the old chef was just fantastic. The new owners are very nice, but the food’s not the same. The sauce lacks kick, the chicken is much more dry, and they aren’t using the same high-quality sausage links. The portions are still generous, though. If you want quality BBQ in San Carlos, Emergency BBQ across the tracks on Old County Road is the place to go now.

This place has a New Orleans décor, and they serve a lot of southern style BBQ food. Personally I like dry grilled pulled pork better than the ones drenched in sauce. That said, this place’s pulled pork is good and tender, and even though it has more sauce than I prefer, I still loved my sandwich. Tried a coworker’s hot link — it was good! The potato salad is solid, but their strong suit is their mac and cheese and cornbread. Yum. I wanted to get the collard greens but they were out today! I’ll try that the next time I visit.

When I worked in the Redwood City area about six years ago, Micha’s was my weekly(every Wednesday) fix for Bar-B-Q and Dirty Rice. I also sitting in when Charles(the owner) brought in local Jazz talent to play for the dinner crowd. Micha’s, your an A+++ in my book.

HEADLINE: Very pleasantly surprised by their care /attention /food quality for a catered event held yesterday at our Company … would highly recommend them Every month or so the Company sponsors a breakfast or a lunch or a beer fest just like the old halcyon days in Silicon Valley. It was my turn to sponsor an event so I Unilocal’ed around the various BBQ joints and caterers across the peninsula to find just the perfect restaurateur that would satisfy my needs for an EPICDOGFEST. By «epic dog fest» I mean pulling out all the stops … hot links, hot dogs, hamburgers and(for those inclined) veggie sandwiches … but I also demanded great sides … excellent potato salad, baked beans, mac & cheese, and of course all the condiments, toppings and rolls to go with it. Alberto(the owner) and the gang at Micha’s were the only group that could handle this and, man, they DELIVERED. Our event began at Noon and I was getting a little worried that the crew might be late … thankfully, they arrived around 11:30 and then were immediately to work. First off, they have this incredibly cool refrigerated /insulated van to make sure the day’s provisions don’t spoil en transit … we were down the road in San Jose and the Micha’s team were bringin’ the BBQ to us, so it was comforting seeing the food come out of a chilled vehicle. Alberto set up his gas grill as well as an enormous charcoal grille resembling an amp’ed up Weber on the best ‘juice’ BALCO could offer. The Kingsford was up and raring to go within minutes. Hot links and hamburgers were grilled to perfection, the massive beef franks boiled. The potato salad, the baked beans, the mac & cheese were all made at the very last minute THATMORNING to ensure the best possible taste and condition … all were fabulous … especially the potato salad that was obviously home-made and got rave reviews by the 140 or so employees enjoying their grub. So, too, the mac & cheese that definitely was not your out-of-the-blue-box Kraft Velveeta variety, but also homemade with Tillamook Sharp Cheddar cheese melted and crisped on the top … outstanding!!! Condiments, toppings, Tillamook Cheddar cheese for all the grilled meats, lettuce /tomato /onions(all which were freshly sliced and prepared again that morning) were all fresh, flavorful and top quality. Dozens of tiny ‘individual’ bottles of Tobasco were a very nice touch as well as great conversation pieces. A big dish of jalapeño pepper slices at the end of the line was vanquished by meal’s end. In addition to Alberto expertly manning the two grilles, the team also had two servers that set up the serving tables and kept the supply of food coming for every hungry person until we satisfied every last one of them … some going back for seconds and thirds … of everything!!! We supplied the dessert and beverages and tables and chairs … Alberto and Micha’s BBQ team handled everything else. At about $ 13 per person plus taxes, I’d say this was a VERY high quality BBQ luncheon, with a great variety, excellent quality, and wonderful service with a smile. Very high value. As a corporate customer for an important Company event … I’m absolutely delighted with the outcome … as were many of my colleagues who enjoyed their Company-sponsored lunch out in the open air and sunshine on a beautiful Monday summer afternoon. Thanks, Alberto and crew!!! Very well done … you came through for me big time. For a change, it was nice to be brought back to those halcyon days of Silicon Valley … nothing better than free beers and dogs, and all the sides you can eat while on the clock!!!

Daph and I love bbq sooooooo this was our next destination. The restaurant was a bit small but the layout makes up for space. It had a New Orleans theme throughout the place with jazz paintings and what not. The location is a little hidden and street parking is easy. I ordered the 2 meat combo. Pork ribs and sliced beef with baked beans and cornbread. I wanted my usual brisket instead of the beef but it wasn’t available on the menu which was a bit disappointing(for me anyways). Daph ordered her usual pulled pork sandwich and cornbread(what disappointed her was that they didn’t serve fries which is ok cuz she knows its not really considered«southern style.») Plates came and we were both surprised with the portions. A lot of meat drenched in bbq sauce and the cornbread was HUGE! The sauce was thick, sweet and spicy just how we like it. Both our meats were tender and juicy. However, my ribs were a little more on the fatty side and the beef was sort of jerky, but the sauce made me forget it all and i just dove in. Service was decent, price was decent, overall a well spent lunch. Would’ve given a 5-star if the meat was more meaty than fatty but this place still gets a 4.

I enjoy supporting the local small business. Micha’s has excellent food! The Catfish is great, the pulled pork is unbelievable and my family has had most everything else on the menu — and loved it! I just learned they do catering also.

The atmosphere at Micha’s is great. I liked the live jazz and the décor. The service was also great. I had the pulled pork and collard greens(pork was good, collard greens were good but super watery) and my bf had the honey mustard chicken sandwich. Overall a good experience.

Good servings Had the Rack of Ribs, and could serve about 3 – 4 people. The food was generally bland, except for the sauce. not much on flavor, and the ribs had an enormous amount of fat on them. But f you can weed through those, or if that is your thing, you will like this. Service was slow, but understandable because there was only one waitress for the place. Maybe should have tried something different but I do not think we are going back,

Had the pulled pork sandwich and baked beans. Nice temperature on the sauce, good spice, and tender pork. Very nice, and reasonably priced for lunch. Micha’s has a number of choices ranging from chicken, BBQ pork and beef, all the way to a few vegetarian offerings. Sometime, I might have to try the«Carnivale Sandwich»… Nah… who am I kidding. I’ll stick to the pork ;0).

We ordered from Micha’s for lunch at work: THEGOOD: — Delicious ribs with meat falling off the bone. Not close to being the best I’ve ever had, but solid ribs I wouldn’t mind getting again. — Cornbread was nice and warm with a crispy crust. — Yummy beans. — Spicy and flavorful sauces. — Good pulled pork. — Great portion size. THEBAD: — Chicken was kind of dry inside. — Some of the ribs were dried out, like beef jerky. — The cornbread crust was awesome, but the inside was really dry and got stuck in my mouth(you know the feeling). I had a couple crusts but had to toss the insides. All in all, good solid BBQ. It’s not entirely consistent and I wouldn’t go out of my way to get it, but if you’re craving BBQ around Redwood City, it’s worth a visit.

— Last-Minute Catering Request Done Perfectly — Our company decided to have a BBQ with only a couple days notice. Our admin worked with Micha’s and found them wonderful to work with: + They pulled together the order with only 2 days to go. + We had last minute changes the night before the event, AFTER the restaurant closed and they still accommodated. + One of those changes was to ask them to provide tables and chairs for all 30 people, and they did so(including setup) without a hitch. + They’re competitive at pricing. + They threw in some extra food as a bonus. The chairs, tables, and setup were perfect. The food was great(personal fan of the chicken — moist, plenty of sauce, and nice crispness to the skin even with the sauce). They really pulled this event off nicely compared with other vendors we’ve used.

Always one of our favorite spots for casual dinner. BBQ sandwiches are tough to beat(both pork and chicken), great sides(slaw and mac and cheese), and I have ventured out and had the dirty rice and jambalaya which are both excellent as well. Great value(sandwich with side less than $ 10). They just added a corkage fee(a whopping $ 6), but still a steal. We had them cater our son’s 1st bday party and it was a whopping success. We ordered food for 20 people(ribs, bbq chicken, mac n’ cheese, baked beans and slaw) and total was less than $ 200, with enough for dinner for at least 3 families left over. Great friendly service too. One of my all around favorite spots on the peninsula.

This is a review of their catering service. Micha’s catered my company’s event at the Boys and Girls Club of the Peninsula last week and boy did they bring a lot of food! I’ve never seen a bigger vat(yes, vat) of watermelon in my life. Excellent mac ‘n cheese, tender juicy ribs and pretty good chicken(a little fatty for my tastes but excellent sauce). I definitely want to check out their restaurant!

3.5 with the food being around 3 and the fact that they have live music to keep my kids entertained and my desire to support local business to breed life into the far end of Laurel more like a 4. BBQ is not exceptionally well made and choices limited to pork ribs or chicken. Not especially tender, easily falling off the bone or bone sucking tasty. Sides rather limited to the typical beans, slaw and corn bread.

You can’t help but like this neighborhood BBQ place which is WAYATTHEEND of Laurel St. towards Redwood City/Whipple. It’s a cozy little place in a very quiet section of Laurel St. They have live music on Friday and Sat nights which pack the place with locals and local families on those nights. Ribs were tasty enough but definitely no Uncle Franks or even Armadillo Willy level. A bit more glaze/charring on the top would have made them even better. But nice thing is that you can order 2, 3, 4, 6. 8, or 12 ribs depending how hungry you are. Potato salad was extremely tasty and looked homemade. Bottom line: Awesome ribs? No. But tasty enough. That along with the neighborhood charm and atmosphere earns this place 4 stars.

another hit on laurel street! Eventhough this place is way at the end away from all the other restaurants, i cannot say enough about this place. Not only is it awesome bbq, but it’s cheap too. I get out of here paying 17 tax and tip for a pulled pork sandwhich, baked beans, corn bread and a beer. Only down side i see is that the live music on weekends is a bit over amped for the size of the restaurant, but other than that you must check it out!

I found this on Unilocal actually, while looking for BBQ. we went and were pleasantly surprised by how good it was. My friend and I split the«mardi gras» platter– a chicken breast, a hot link, 4 ribs, pulled pork and beef– well enough for two people… we had leftovers. We got the spicy BBQ sauce. it was so good! I will definitely go back. I think they said that wed. or thurs. night was jambalaya night. mmm I will definitely go back!!!

My co-worker and I are really good at closing places down it seems. Four different places have closed in the last month since our company moved here. The only other BBQ we had found had closed within three days of us being there, and our BBQ joints went from one to zero. Good thing we found Micha’s. Definitely not your typical BBQ place. Most of the places I go to are downright dives but this one, although off the beaten path turned out to be quite nice. New paint, jazz art adorns the walls, and it’s much more like a fancy café. They have live jazz on the weekends and it might be that this place could be quite happening. As we perused the menu, we saw a good amount of BBQ items, but there were also diner style things like burgers, sandwiches, corn dogs. In addition to that there are some fancy salads like nicoise and some Louisiana entrees such as jambalaya. The menu was definitely atypical of southern BBQ. My co-worker got a combo of chicken and links while I went for the sliced beef sandwich and a corn dog. Our sides consisted of beans, potato salad, cornbread and mac&cheese. BBQ’d meats were all pretty good but I have to say the hot sauce while it has a kick is not that hot. The sides were also good but I think the corn dog and cornbread needed to be crispier. I love cornmeal items when they have a nice crunch. The service was definitely very friendly and attentive. We chatted with the waitress a few times and she kept our drinks constantly refilled. This is now my current work BBQ place because it doesn’t suck and it’s the only one I know around here :) Definitely going to come back and give the fried chicken and meatloaf a try.
