It does take up to 30 mins for the chicken to be ready but they are so worth it! Winner winner chicken dinner: full combo(4 drumsticks + 12 wings) of crispy mild. Just the right amount of sauce.

This has location offers the same selection as the one in Santa Clara, but quality leaves something to be desired. Their rendition of the Boneless Ssam Chicken is quite lacking. I’ll be keeping to the Santa Clara location for Von’s fix until this one substantially improves.

Vons shares the location with Kaya Tofu &BBQ in the San Carlos Plaza(where CVS is located) so you can order from either menu when you’re seated. No outdoor seating. Prices are different than the Santa Clara location(about $ 1 more). You can read my review for that location here: More seating than the Vons in Santa Clara so if you have a big group, I suggest coming here. They closed earlier than the posted sign when we went over the Thanksgiving weekend(about an hour early), so call if you plan on going late at night. Highly suggest doing a set menu since the prices are a little on the pricier side for wings. I told my BF to do at least one set menu since it would be cheaper, but he didn’t pay attention. Of course they’re not going to automatically do it for you so we were charged separately for each item. =/Chicken here is fairly spicy and the crispy chicken has a great crunch. Pieces are larger than that of Bonchon though we did notice an inconsistency in sizes across the orders. Not sure if the Soy & Vinegar was actually mild but I couldn’t eat it, so of all the wings we ordered I could only eat the Crispy Fried Chicken. =’(Everyone enjoyed the food. Since there were only 3 other tables while we were there, service was attentive. Even tho they closed early and we were the last ones there, they didn’t try to rush us out. Will definitely be back since they are closer.

I’ve been to the location in Sunnyvale, and I was craving some awesome chicken up north. I was super surprised to learn this wasn’t a standalone location, but a hybrid with the already existing Kaya! It might be hard to find since it shares the sign with Kaya, but know it’s in the same complex as CVS and is next to Jersey Joe’s. I’ve never been to Kaya, but from what I got from the restaurant they’ve simply added the Von’s menu to their repertoire. You got the oven baked to the crispy chicken with all the same flavors. I opted for some takeout, and was told it would be a 30 minute wait. Von’s is usually known for making it by the batch, so I was fine with that and came back after shopping. The other reviews have noted the super juicy chicken with the great crispy exterior — exactly as found in Sunnyvale. I liked my experience more at this location for two reasons, the second of which may not make sense. One, their spicy crispy chicken is much better seasoned. The Sunnyvale location has given a random smear on the wings. But here, it’s evenly spread across the wing without compromising the juiciness. And second, they messed up my order. Seriously. It’s a weird thing to appreciate, but it’s what made this a real experience. Rather than just give a halfhearted apology, they straight up served me, a takeout customer, a 5 piece order of chicken while I waited for free, with daikon and everything. I also got free rice with my takeout order. While the addition of Von’s to Kaya may seem haphazard, the food and service was anything but. Don’t let the exterior fool you even once.

As stated by others this is really just Kaya with Von’s Chicken. Kaya is over priced mediocre Korean Food… 2 stars at best. Throw in the Von’s and it moves up a star. Here are a few items of note: The size of the chicken is inconsistent. We got 2 orders 1 crispy one original both were mix of drums and wings. The one order there was a noticeable difference between the drums and wings. In the other order the drums were only about 10% larger than the wings. Issue two is each piece of chicken we received was cut to make sure it was properly cooked. This leads to dry chicken. The short is I will come here again and give it another shot. Kaya had been dead to me for years so it is a good move!

Well done Kaya-Von’s San Carlos. Really Good KFC. Korean fried chicken. Got the crispy and crunchy styles, with the spicy sauce on the side. Very tasty. they came out hot and crispy on the outside, and juicy inside. Prices are above average but u get what u pay for.

Sign says they are open on Sunday. The sun came store said they are supposed to be open. The menu and website says they are open, but they are closed. I may update this if they ever get their times right. My wife called multiple times and got the run around.

Vons is just the reincarnation of Kaya. Kaya is still there and everything is still the same, except that they offer Vons chicken now. Nice selection of various Vons oven baked and fried chicken options. Crispy chicken wings(4 stars) — came tasty and fresh out of the fryer but a bit oily. They’re no Bonchon but good overall. Garlic soy wings oven baked(3.5 stars) — came fresh and juicy inside but they didn’t wow me. And you can still order all the normal Korean dishes, which are generally decent but definitely on the pricey side for a Korean restaurant. Service was friendly but lacking since there were only 2 ppl covering the entire place on a weekday night. Bottom line: 3.5 stars overall. It’s no Bonchon but great to have a decent Korean chicken wing place in San Carlos/Redwood City area. Welcome to the ‘hood.

So this is the old Kaya. Parking is easy. Called in my order. Full size Von’s chicken half size garlic chicken. Not your typical Korean chicken with a fried coating, it’s baked. If you want fried be sure to ask for fried. The sauce was ok, chicken a bit to the dry side although both sauces tasted pretty much the same to me. I was looking forward to the traditional Korean fried chicken. I liked the pickled radish it comes with. My only complaint is how long they took to ring me up. I stood there 5−10mins because all the staff was in the back then another 20 mins waiting to get rung up. It would have took them 2 mins to ring me up so I could leave, instead it took half a hour. Isn’t that the whole point to calling in so you wouldn’t have to wait. It wasn’t even busy. 3 tables there. Customer service isn’t a priority for this place, no please, thank you or smiles. I’ll give it one more try n ask for the fried chicken next time but from all the poor Unilocal reviews from when they were Kaya I don’t have high hopes for this place. I may just have to drive further into San Mateo for Bonchon next time

The quality is not comparable with Sunnyvale’s one, i bought the ssam chicken for take out, after got to home, i found the chicken and the vegetable is not fresh at all! and their price is higher(23.99) than the Sunnyvale’s one, i will not go this placed anymore, i called Sunnyvale store, they told me they are two different owners.

Finally Korean chicken is available in San Carlos! I don’t have to drive to Sunnyvale anymore. There’s many different types of Korean chicken on the menu, and Pa Dak is my favorite among them. I love the texture of chicken with the crispness of green onion. You definitely have to check out this place if you haven’t. Don’t forget to order beer! The pairing of Korean chicken and draft beer is so perfect. Highly recommend!!!

This is some bomb Korean style chicken. My favorite is the mild crispy chicken and you get to choose what kind of pieces you want. They also have a six different drafts for beer. Bomb!
