I wish you could give this company no stars. I just got off the phone with the Owner of this company named Mark which was THE worst customer experience to date. This company rebuilt a steering gear box two months ago for my dodge dart. They rebuilt (supposedly) the gear box and brought it back, needless to say after my mechanic installed it the car wouldn’t even steer. Mind you the car had no problems steering before this part was rebuilt it just had a slow leak which is why it went in for the rebuild. When my mechanic asked them to come out and check the part they sent Rudolfo the technician out to look at the part who barely glanced at it and said that the high pressure hose was leaking and that was why the part would not function (anyone with half a brain knows this is BS) ok so we fix the hose and wait now 2 months for the technician to come back out. Rudolfo said to call when the hose was fixed and he would come look at it. Over the two month period my mechanic and myself called numerous times and were ignored and shuffled off. We spoke with Justin, Corey (the general manager) and on this last occasion myself I spoke with Mark who during this conversation stated the following before hanging up on me rudely.
” You sound like an irrational middle aged white woman”
(No Mark I’m actually 31 years old and half white, ¼ Chinese and ¼ Filipino if that is somehow relevant… You however are an ignorant jerk with poor people skills)
«I don’t need to deal with people like you»
(actually you do… I am your customer… you rebuilt and probably broke my $ 600 part and don’t care to deal with me?)
«You’re a liar, you never called here and we sent someone out a week ago»
(have documented dates and times of different people that I spoke with but ok I’m a liar since you had to pull all your staff together to even find out what the problem was before you even knew what I was talking about…)
«You burned up the gear box because the hose had a leak»
(excuse me for saying this since I am not a certified mechanic, that if there is fluid in the reservoir and the hose was leaking, then obviously the gear box was not running dry but what do I know… I“m just a middle aged irrational white woman)
Needless to say, anyone that I know won’t be going here to have anything rebuilt because Mark the owner is quite possibly the worst excuse for a human being on the planet and probably doesn’t even care about this review. At this point I would only try to save someone the pain and suffering and money from having any of their equipment ruined by this company. Unless of course you want to throw your money away, have your equipment broken and be insulted.

AES does good, keeps their word, and their price quotes are solid — no games. AES rebuilt the steering gear box on my 1973 Corvette, and recently rebuilt the Rack and Pinion on my 2008 Dodge Dakota — both perform well! I would recommend AES, and return to AES as a repeat customer — thank you, good luck!

Had a very difficult time removing a bad alternator out of a 2004 Ford Escape 3.0L. Did not trust buying a rebuilt replacement from the auto parts stores. Took it here on a rainy day in SD. Mark took really good care of me and had my Alternator professionally rebuilt on the premises in less than an hour.
Escape is now running like a top. These folks are experts on these matters and always stand behind their work.

We have been here now 4TIMES FOR THE SAME ALTERNATOR!
1^st time they gave us a new alternator that wasn’t even the right one.
2^nd time to return WRONG alternator and take back the one we brought in (rebuilt).
3^rd time when our RV almost died in YUMA cuz the alternator wasn’t charging. So we bring the alternator back and it was still under warranty and they said it was FRIED (blamed it on a bad battery). So we get it home and ready to install it and find there was a bolt loose and underneath the plate and stripped wire that was haphazardly taped and the plastic piece inside was cracked.
4^th trip return the alternator and they say they will take care of it and the guy barely slapped some glue on the crack and retapped the wire not replacing it as «we don’t have a short wire»

MARK the proprietor of the business (AES on Twain Avenue in San Diego, CA) has ALWAYS been a decent man. Decent… that is… until today (January 28, 2015) when I went in for the THIRD TIME with the SAME ALTERNATOR which keeps going bad for some reason! The alternator will work fine for about a week or so, then my red BATTERY light starts coming on AGAIN on the dash which indicates that SOMETHING is wrong with the charging system. I have removed all GROUND wires (THE BIG THREE) as they are «referred» to, sanded down the mounting areas and washers for all of these wires and made CERTAIN that the engine, starter, alternator, and battery are ALL WELL GROUNDED… and YET… I STILL Keep getting the red dash (battery) light coming on again when I come to an intersection where the engine is at idle, and more so when I put the headlights ON. ALL electrical CONNECTIONS are FIRMLY SECURED. MARK came outside, looked under the hood and (after my having had this truck for 25 years) he begins to find fault with my battery connections (which have ALWAYS worked JUST FINE!) He stated that the PLUG going into the alternator was «loose» when I JUST CHECKED IT only minutes earlier and it was IN all the way, and FINE. Then I stated that the plug was NOT loose and MARK all of a sudden turned into a MAD MAN (by stating that I called him a liar), and he attempted to intimidate me with his height and size but I am the SAME height and size. That approach did NOT WORK FOR HIM, and so he THEN decided to make insulting remarks to me which were completely UNCALLED FOR and most CERTAINLY, NOT ANY way to treat a paying customer, and especially one who has patronized his business for decades! MARK insulted me repeatedly by suggesting that I am a looser because I drive an 80’s era vehicle and he stated that I must be divorced because of a «certain look on my face»! (?) Mean while, I am standing there trying to verbally defend myself and asking him why it is that he feels it is necessary to insult me? Then, he completely ignores that question and states AGAIN how I must be a looser by asking ME how much money I made last year… (which has absolutely NOTHING AT ALL to do with why I came there) and he ALSO went on to tell me that he earned well over a MILLION DOLLARS last year. Company Details from the INTERNET shows: AES San Diego Sales Range: Under $ 500,000.
Where does TELLING ME WHAT HE EARNED LAST YEAR come from? I will tell you where it comes from. It comes from a person who is VERY insecure! All of the insinuations and insults that this man (MARK) told me that are applicable to ME… are applicable to him. He knows NOTHING about me! If ANYONE had a «weird look on their face» it was MARK! He comes across to me as a mad scientist whose mind is off in some other dimension somewhere, and that he just happened to somehow end up in the starter/​alternator repair business by accident. He got RIGHT UP IN MY FACE, YELLING AT ME!!! AND… FOR WHAT?
I did absolutely NOTHING to this man for him to act like he did and to treat me, (a paying customer) in such a horrible and demeaning manner. Well MARK, it is obvious that you have some mental issues and are NOT a happy person at all… otherwise, you would not have disrespected me as you did, for I have done NOTHING to you to deserve to be talked to in that way nor did I disrespect YOU in any way, WHAT SO EVER! I wish you NO ill at all. You have always been a decent person in years past and that is the person I will hold respect for. However, you have lost a customer because of your negative and poor choices. I hope you can get your problems solved so that you NEVER TREAT another customer in the manner in which you treated me… so undeserving! I would strongly suggest for ANYONE looking for rebuilt STARTERS OR ALTERNATORS to go elsewhere so that you DO NOT have to be susceptible to this kind of extremely RUDE behavior. And the ODD thing is… that it CAME OUT OF NOWHERE… QUITE UNEXPECTEDLY! OH! And do NOT ask for a REFUND! This man is (seemingly) not too stable, so if you DO use this business, be VERY careful! I am merely stating «MY» experience and simply WARNING others to be cautious if you should chose to deal with MARK. As God is my witness, I was polite and did not do anything to provoke this guy into becoming a mad man… who by the way ALSO threatened to call the police. Call the police? What for? I said; «You are the one who is carrying on like a mad man!» Then he PROUDLY and vigorously pointed to a sign on the building which mentioned something regarding the «manager» of the property, and then he POINTED HIS FINGER HARD, INTO HIS CHEST… and said in a psychotic manner… «THAT’S ME»! I said, go ahead and call the police if you want. I got in my vehicle and quietly drove away and left peacefully. I will NEVER go back there again for ANY reason.

I’ve had them rebuild three different alternators and a boat starter over the years, they are worth the trip up from the south bay.

I’m in SD and just off the highway my truck (old customized Silverado) decides to crap the alternator. The old one was smoking and hissing like a pissed off cat.
I gimped the truck ½ mile to a gas station, and had the tech pull my alternator. Thing looked like a charcoal briquet inside.
They told me to carry the dead one around the corner and that’s where I found AES– they had an upgraded one (more powerful one) in stock for a few pennies more.
It doesn’t sound like a big deal, until you realize that going to an Auto Zone means crapshoot– you MIGHT get one that works, you might not. THe guys said Mark’s work is the best. I believe it.
The new one got installed, and was immediately putting out full rated power, quietly– and at a silly cheap price.
Forget about going to O’Reillys or Auto Zone, if you need a starter, alternator or steering rack rebuild and are in San DIego– COME HERE.

Best place around for alternator repairs. Been doing business with these guys for 8 years or so, never ever had a problem. These guys generally rebuild an alternator for less that an aftermarket one, and with more reliability. Mark is the guy to see, you won’t be disappointed…

My brother took my alternator in for a repair. He took it in in the morning and I picked it up by 3, same day service! Outstanding. Fast, friendly and it didn’t cost me $ 350. I highly recommend AES.

removed my factory alternator myself. brought it to AES as a core, since they said they had one in stock. when i get there they dont have it. so they gave me one they said will work, and if it doesnt work, they will rebuild the factory alternator i turned in as a core and trade it back to me. so i installed their «AES» rebuilt alternator. One day later the alternator starts making squealing noises so i removed that alternator and brought back to AES. they took it back and gave me the factory alternator «rebuilt by them». i installed it once again, less than a day later my car is smoking, battery light goes on as well as other lights in my dash cluster, i find battery acid is spewing out from the top of my battery and all over my engine bay and fender paint. i wipe most of the battery acid down but by now it has melted a lot of the plastic and paint on my fender. so i removed the alternator again and brought back to aes. their own diagnostic technician said the «rebuilt» voltage regulator went out and it made the battery create too much voltage and it fried itself. they said it wasnt their fault they fried my battery and destroyed my engine bay, let alone a failed alternator again. he then tells me that 20%(1 out of 5) of rebuilt alternators fail from AES and its not AES’s fault. is that even true? wouldnt you think you they tell me that before i buy alternators from them? i get my factory alternator core back and the money i spent there as my refund. i go to the lexus dealer to buy a brand new alternator and they said the alternator AES gave me back to me is now ruined and will not be accepted as the core. so now i have to pay the core charge too. i had to remove and install my alternator three times, replace an optima yellow-​top (expensive) battery out of my own pocket for their mistake, AND deal with engine bay and fender ruined because of battery acid. i will never go to AES again and will not recommend them ever.

They have rebuilt 2 Alternators for me and the work great and the price was right. Also, friendly, knowledgeable, efficent folks, what more could you ask for?
