Alpha One Diving Service is AWESOME! Read this to see why… The Port of San Diego and many other ports around the world have proved that applying toxic chemicals(Copper, Zinc and other chemicals) to the bottoms of boats does deter the growth of marine organisms, however, at the same time it has increased the level of copper or chemical toxicity levels in the water column, especially in smaller harbors with lesser water or tidal flow. Man has used this method of reducing fouling of marine organisms for about 100 years but it has taken its toll on water quality in our harbors. I have a new product on my boat that has ZERO chemicals in it and has proven to inhibit fouling and make it easier to clean the bottom of a boat. Furthermore, it eliminates the application of toxic paint along with toxic chemicals, which are normally required to ward off marine growth(bottom fouling organisms). The product is called Thorn-D, and I am happy to use it. Many divers have refused to clean my boat because of their fear that it(the product) will eliminate there job of cleaning the bottoms of boats but that is simply a myth. ALL boats will continually need monthly cleaning by divers; only, the divers will spend less time and energy to do the same amount of work while completing the job quicker due to the products amazing antifouling performance. While protecting the environment, which they, «the divers» live in daily, they will be earning the same amount of money, or more, and protecting the environment by not leaching toxic chemicals into the water by scrubbing off ablative paints(and what about all the paint that falls to the bottom??? My now Ex-Diver, who recently told me that he would not clean my non-toxic, non-chemical, non-biocide paint anymore because it was«too hard to clean», gave me the names of a two other underwater hull cleaning companies. A few came out to the boat(under) to have a look and had some different opinions. –One, «This is a non-biocide paint/product and we will only work under your boat if you sign a one year contract. And we will require you to have it cleaned it twice a month for twice the money». Sounds like fear to me. –Two, «This is too hard to clean with a Scotch Brite pad and I just can’t do it anymore. I’m afraid that if I use my scrubber, I will ruin your coating». I told him it would not. –I did some research and called: ALPHAONEDIVING, I explained the product to Tony and Bill and they said, «Okay, we will clean your boat this week», and they were there two days later and it was cleaned fast! Here’s what Tony had to say, «Wow! What a cool new and unique product! We will try different methods to get it clean». Afterwards… «Your boat has not been cleaned in four months, which is hard to believe, seeing that the growth on this product only appears to be that of two months of growth on traditional copper paint, when actually if was four. It cleaned up relatively easy and I can only Imagine that it will clean up much, much easier on a three or four week standard schedule. We look forward to cleaning it next month! I just had the bottom paint done on my boat at Shelter Island Boat Yard. It was last done over five years ago and was not in terrible shape but close to the«not much paint left stage». I told the yard to use the same paint that they used last time since it lasted so long. They said they would like to take credit for it but it was more likely that this was the result of a good dive service. In my case, that would be Alpha One. Bill and Tony his son have taken good care of my boat since 2007, when I brought the boat back from Puerto Vallarta. They have been very reliable and never missed a service. I have never arrived at the boat and noticed that the bottom was in bad shape unlike in PV where I would show up and notice that the bottom cleaners were a couple weeks overdue. I have never seen them do it but I believe the trick to their service is that they use a pressurized water sprayer to clean the bottom rather than scrubbing it with abrasives so the paint lasts longer. All I know is that I got a couple extra years out of the life of my bottom paint so they must be doing it right.
