Acai… it’s everywhere! I think its pretty safe to say this«craze» or «fad» is fairly main stream now. Jamba Juice, Rockie’s Yogurt, Good On Ya Deli, Lion Coffee, Demi Café Café, Lupe’s Taco Shop… heck, you can even order it at It’s Boba Time! I’ve tried acai from pretty much all the places above and many other joints I haven’t named as well. Taking all of my acai experiences into acount, I’ve gotta say Amazona Acai Café has the best Acai bowls hands down! My Muay Thai coach(Jhanex) first introduced me to acai years ago. I’ve been hooked ever since! My wifey, who also happens to love acai, wanted to try acai from a new place. So Unilocal led us here! We came Memorial Day weekend and ordered one Urbano Bowl(for me) and two Tribal bowls(plain) with no toppings(one for my wife and another for a family member). As the owner Luiz prepared our acai, we tried the freshly baked cheese bread. It had a nice crispy exterior and a nice soft cheesy interior. I loved the acai… I’d say the consistency is that of slightly melted ice cream. Not necessarily a bad thing(we all enjoyed it). The acai alone was already great… but then they topped it with fresh sliced fruit added crunchy delicious granola and that took the acai bowl to another level! Service is great… I’ve been here on three occasions and the food and service is consistent. Luiz is very friendly and personable. Loved the atmosphere of this place… the music definitely fit the vibe of this place. They have bar style seating inside and outside if you want to enjoy beautiful San Diego weather. The place us dog friendly too. I’m going to be a regular here. I came here three times already in less than a week! If I lived closer, I’d probably be here almost every day! 5⁄5 — Acai 4⁄5 — Cheese bread 5⁄5 — Service 5⁄5 — Atmosphere 5⁄5 — Cleanliness Overall this place scored a 5⁄5 in my book! This is my favorite acai place in San Diego!

I appreciate why this place is receiving positive reviews. My first experience was very pleasant. I was having difficulty deciding on what to get and was helped along. I ordered a smoothie which was very tasty and a sandwich. There seemed to be extra care given to my order but I am sensing this is how everyone is treated.

Refreshing food, great location, and friendly service from the owner Luiz. The acai bowls are as fantastic as everyone has raved about, but the other Brazilian treats are delicious too. I’m definitely a frequent customer living only a block away.

I woke up in a bad mood on a Monday morning and had to drive to LA for work. I recently heard about this place and wanted to give it a shot since I’ve tried every other acai bowl place in San Diego. I grabbed a medium Urbana acai bowl on my way out of town and did not regret it at all. This bowl is the best acai in San Diego– What makes it so good is because the owner really focuses on the acai part instead of the fruit. Perfect granola to acai ratio– and the granola! Vanilla cashew crunch, so good. It completely made my day even if I have to go to LA. My over regret is not getting the large size. This is my new go to spot. Yum.

A small family owned place with seemingly one-person doing it all. The gentlemen preparing my Urbano Bowl was polite and chill. The acai bowl was excellent — if not the best I’ve had. I tried the Urbano Bowl which simply comes with the blended acai, banana and strawberry slices, blueberries, their home made granola mix and drizzled with honey atop. They’ve got the acai down perfect here. Often times other places will mix the acai with too much strawberries and apple juice(too sweet and or tart) which drowns out the acai and runs all over. Not here. Here, it’s perfect. It’s still medium thickness in consistency and not overly sweet or tart. The other thing that separates this better than others is the home made granola. It’s made by the gentleman himself with large clusters and great crunch and flavor. If you’re craving that acai bowl — this one is worth the drive to PB.

Finally found a decent/authentic place for my Aćai Bowl cravings in San Diego! Parking is pretty easy as I had no problem finding a parking spot around noonish on a weekday. There are several 20min parking spots right outside the café. However, this café is relatively small with limited inside and outside seating. The guy working there was super friendly when I ordered my Aćai bowl. I chose the Tribal Aćai Bowl because it looks relatively traditional compare to the other Aćai bowl on the menu. The guy told me it would be a 5 mins wait because there were a few customers before me. Also, he asked me if I wanted the gluten free granola or the house made ones. He recommended the gluten free ones for me this time. I’ll try the house made granola next time. So excited: D The Tribal Aćai bowl was really good. The bowl wasn’t very liquidish nor did it taste very sweet(which was a high plus for Aćai bowl). The banana was very fresh too. On top of everything, the gluten free granola was so delicious. There are a lot of pastries to choose from too. I got the Brazilian chicken hot pie this time. It tastes just as good as it looks! The only down side was that I expected a little bit more granola in my bowl. Because the blender in the back was pretty loud when the guy speaking to me, I didn’t hear quite clearly what he said about the granola. I think he said something like he didn’t want to make the bowl too full and let him know if I wanted some extra granola. Yeah I think that was what he said. I’ll ask for more granola if that’s the case. Overall, I really like this café. There are many food/drink options to choose from. There’s even a gym workout menu which I thought was awesome.

I have been totally in love with acai lately, so it comes to no surprise that I ended up here last weekend. Amazona Acai Café was out of our way, but since it’s gotten rave reviews, we decided to give it a shot! We showed up super early, and there weren’t very many people there. Parking was more than adequate, as we parked right in the front. When you walk inside, it’s a hole in the wall. What you will notice that even though this place is small, you can tell they are serious about what they do here. The menu is extensive, with smoothies, juices, acai bowls, coffee, and concoctions galore! We kept our eye on the prize: a large Urbano acai bowl. The Urbano is a pretty standard acai bowl with bananas, blueberries, and strawberries. What sets this acai bowl off is their granola. It is pretty damn good, especially with cashews. I wasn’t expecting that! The acai itself tasted good, but a little too runny for me. I still destroyed it. There was only one guy working his butt off, and it seemed like he was the owner. He was very meticulous and also asked if we had any nut allergies. That’s pretty awesome. He explained how they made their granola, and really appreciated the positive feedback. I also had a cup of coffee, and it really really hit the spot! I’m almost glad that I don’t live close, otherwise I’d be here every day for a cup of their coffee! I’d definitely recommend this place, especially if you want awesome customer service and a quality acai bowl!

Was looking for somewhere for breakfast yesterday. I really wanted an acai bowl. With so many places too choose from in San Diego which we have been too we decided on something different. Got a large acai bowl cause I was really hungry. The acai itself was alright. It was a little more on the liquidly side for me. The granola was perfect!!! The granola had cashews in it. It was so good!!! I could of just ate the granola and been pretty happy. The fruit in the bowl was really fresh. I also got a dirty chai which was good. It was stronger then I am used too. It didn’t have much sugar which is probably the reason why it seemed so strong. The only thing I could taste which was the espresso. It’s good for someone who likes a strong drink. It’s a cute little place on la jolla right off the street. The parking is not great but we went early in the morning so it was perfect. The owner was really friendly and made sure we enjoyed our food. I will be back for an acai bowl maybe I can ask for the rest of the stock of granola!

Tiny quick stop shop. Acai bowls are great, and the fruit on top is fresh(none of that gross canned/frozen-then-thawed stuff). The bowls are filling, not too sweet and the perfect consistency. I was also excited to see they had BRAZILIANCHEESEBALLS/BREAD/PUFFS — if you’ve been to a Brazilian steakhouse, you know what I’m talkin’ ’bout! They have a unique chewy texture due to tapioca flour and a light cheesy flavor. HOWEVER I did not really enjoy these here — they tasted almost fishy? It may be due to the fact that one of their ingredients at this shop is «Brazilian brine». which sounds like sea salt… I usually eat 10 of these in one sitting but the ones from here I could only eat one and threw the rest out(cries). Anyways, I’d come here for the bowls, but not sure about everything else!

I love this spot! It’s close to my house and the staff is so friendly! I ordered a panini pressed sandwich with egg, cheddar cheese, avocado and mushrooms: SO good! I also got their Acai smoothie which was delicious! They have some seating inside as well as outside. I’d have to say the parking is limited and it took a little while to get my food, but it’s worth the wait!

Meineira? I don’t think I spelled that correctly, but that was the smoothie I ordered today. It is the smoothie with mango, pineapple, coconut water, OJ, and agave. It was delicious! I’ve been craving for some organic juice/smoothie for a few days now, and the Meineira(?) really hit the spot. I’m happy I came here. The place is a short walk from Oscar’s taco place. Do what I did, and stroll on over here after you’ve had lunch at Oscar’s. Really made my afternoon a pleasant one. Poor guy working alone seemed really overwhelmed though. Customer service might be better if he had help. Not too big of a deal, of course. All our smoothies came out good! That’s all that matters.

Dude is the dude. Super friendly guy and loves to talk to his customers. Incredibly inviting and you just feel happy to be there. I don’t even particularly care for Acai bowls but the way he talks about his product makes you enjoy it far more than if he just handed it to you after ordering it. He’s from Brazil and loves to share why he decided to come to the US and bring the culture/food here. He’s very proud of the fact that the granola and many other things here are home made The owner gave us a sample of this cheese bread thing that was really good. I got the Urbano Acai bowl but I’m not even going to recommend a particular item in this review because talking to the owner about what he recommends is more than half the experience.

Glad I found this place on my drive today! I live in North Park, and while there are Acai Bowls around… they are not really the best. But today I had a delicious real acai bowl(no apple juice in it!). The owner, Luiz, was very nice and we chatted for a bit, about possibly opening a location in North Park! I would love it! There are so many other items on the menu that I want to try, like some amazing sounding grilled cheese sandwiches! Today I had the Urbano Acai Bowl(acai, granola, banana, strawberry, blueberry, and honey) it was great! I got the medium, which was a perfect size for after my hike. I can’t wait to come back and try some other items! Come down and try out this little gem!

I am new to the world of acai bowls. I am late to the party on particular food trend(also, I’m getting old and kinda fat if I try to keep up all with the trends any longer), mostly due to them not being very popular in Seattle. San Diego was an absolutely lovely place to try my first one– particularly Pacific Beach where health, outdoors and sunshine are celebrated every day. The acai bowl at Amazona was honestly my second one I tried, but where I was led after a Google search about what was in an authentic acai bowl. The pulp is mainly Acai berries(read: not sweet) and sometimes blended with banana, topped with granola for texture and crunch and occasionally sweetened with a dollop of honey. No peanut butter. No strawberries. No hemp seeds or other crunchy bits to add to help you feel more virtuous. And here at Amazona was exactly that– unsweetened thick blended acai pulp, granola on top and a small drizzle of honey. After a walk in the sunshine, it was delicous and refreshing. I am by NO means an expert of the authenticity of an acai bowl after a google search– but this felt like the real deal and was well-priced for the amount you got. The gentleman working was efficient and pleasant to everyone– I loved being able to patronize a hard working business.

Excellent Acai! A must try. The place is pretty small. Outside there are about 4 – 5 barstool to sit and inside there’s a small bench and 3 barstools. There are a few spots to park right outside, but otherwise it’s street parking. The prices have increased since some of the pics of the menu have been posted on Unilocal. The menu is taped on the wall when you enter. It can be hard to see if there are others looking at the menu as well. We ordered a medium tribal acai and a coffee each. The two guys behind the counter are nice and helpful. They do have a few pastries and cheese bread, but for now we decided to skip them. The acai is blended so between an ice cream and smoothie texture. Acai came with granola and fruit and honey. The mix was excellent and just enough of each portion. I will come back and hope to try the cheese bread and iced coffee next.

If you like your acai frozen/slushy-esque and service friendly/genuine, come to Amazona! Came here after a horrible time at Chronic just a few stores down the street… and got my acai fix! First off, Amazona does nut-free granola which is BIG for alla y’all foodies with allergies out there. Secondly, they have a small space, but it’s quick enough for those who are just ordering a smoothie to go or a small acai bowl to enjoy while people-watching. They also have legit Brazilian baked goods and drip coffee for those in need of a snack. In short, this is a clean, quaint, bright space run by two friendly Brazilians. They obviously care a lot about their craft and strive on making top-notch goods with quality ingredients. This is a great space for people who want quality breakfast/brunch and organic service. Will definitely recommend this place!

There’s about 2 – 3 spots out in the front but it can be tough to park because of how busy the street can get. After a disastrous Acai Bowl experience, my friends and I came here to erase the bad memories. We were immediately greeted by two guys who accommodated to my friend’s almond allergy, they were so sweet and friendly. While waiting for the Acai Bowl we decided to try the 3 for $ 2 cheese breads and it was delicious! The cheese bread was savory, chewy, and light. When we got our Acai Bowl, the texture was almost like fudge, it was packed with Acai Berries and you can tell it was barely mixed with any other ingredients. I think this was as close to eating the actual berries yourself. It’s a small location so there is limited seating, I would swing by here to grab food and walk around the neighborhood.

Question #1… Does this place really deserve 5 stars? The answer is… YES! Question #2… Would we ever come back? Well, duh! DEFINITELY! Every day if we could… If you ever stop by while they’re closed… TRYAGAIN. We tried stopping by several times and never made it in because they were closed for whatever event or reason. We actually stopped trying for a few months… until recently when we figured we should probably give it another try. Extremely glad that we did! This is a pretty small café with limited indoor and outdoor seating. We guess there’s no AC as it was mighty hot in there. It was a one man show… as(who we assumed was) the owner took several orders and prepared them all by himself. He was the nicest guy who chatted with everyone and genuinely happy to help, make recommendations, and hear feedback. The first item we tried was the TRIBALBOWL. The Tribal Bowl is 100% acai pulp blended with banana, sweetened with guarana syrup, topped with granola, banana(or fruit of your choice), and honey. We’re not fans of the blended/smoothie type acai bowls because the acai taste usually ends up getting lost somewhere in the mix. But, this is the exception and is our favorite blended acai bowl thus far! Nothing else compares. A good amount of tasty blended acai on the bottom, topped with thinly sliced bananas, covered with a delicious granola mix of oats & nuts, and drizzled with enough honey to have some in every bite. We shared a medium, but wished we had more. The second item we tried was the Mineira Smoothie(mango, pineapple, coconut water, oj, agave). It was a light smoothie which tasted all natural, fresh, and healthy. Very refreshing. The third item we tried was the COXINHA(chicken, cheese, herbs and spices, wrapped in a potato dough). We only got 1 so we could try it out… meaning, we each only ate half. Currently, it’s buy 2 for $ 5. Trust us… get the 2… you’ll end up wanting more! This teardrop shape of goodness was savory and delicious! If you like spice/hot sauce, add some Cholula! The last item we tried for the day was the Lemon Bar. It has a good balance of tart and sweet… and the crust was nice and a little flaky. Great way to finish off our little meal. Looking forward to trying the cheese bread next time, as he had already ran out for the day. We’ll be trying out the other options available on the menu, too. We’d love to see this place expand some day… it is well deserved. Stop by and give them a try. You won’t regret it!
