I personally probably would of never picked this place but the girl wanted desert. It takes place in a looks like older house split into two. A bar side with a full bar and food and then small café. The men working here where all very nice and friendly, would recommend and tell you about all they have to offer. The coffee was good and cheap. Unique idea to come in have a fancy cupcake and a cup of Joe. The Cupcakes where good. Oreo was nice and light with a light frosting on top and inside. Chocolate was rich but not overwhelmingly rich.

Can you say sugar rush overload?!! Lol. Cupcakes galore. I didn’t know what to choose so we went with a few different ones and a almond joy brownie! I’m a coconut fanatic and that was really good! Cupcakes were great. Not overly sweet yet not bland either. My other half ordered a Mexican mocha. He really liked that they incorporated abuelita in it. The Chai tea was ordered in my group as well and was a big hit. I went with milk to try and help with my sugar rush Location is very cute and quaint. Next time I’m in San Diego I’ll definitely come back and make sure I wear stretchy pants

My friends and I came here after dinner for dessert. This is cool and hip place where you can order cupcakes and beer. There are two different sections, one for the cupcakes and non alcoholic drinks and a bar on another section. A great place to go after dinner and grab dessert.

This place is amazing. Best cupcakes in town. I got locked out of my car a few weeks ago so I had time to kill while waiting for the locksmith. This place is literally across the street from where I was that up spending about an hour there is a locksmith got her. The staff is super friendly to

Yes, the guys working this restaurant/bar/bakery are flamboyant, bright, cheery and super happy all the time, but let’s just talk cupcakes. Amazeballs! I’m so happy I found them after eating at the Bronx Pizza one night and I have been hooked ever since! My fave is the maple bacon cupcake drizzled with a warm maple syrup and the, tres leches, and the oreo and the… ok pretty much all of them! Although I am still not through tasting all the flavors. One cupcake at a time or else! I’ll be back soon boys!!!

This is by far my favorite cupcake place ever. My favorites are the blood orange and the tres leches. The cupcakes here are pretty big which is nice because it makes me feel like I am getting more for my money. The cupcakes are also really pretty which makes it harder to devour them! The cupcakes here are really topnotch. Cakes are moist and the frostings are so good and not too sweet or grainy. Great spot, highly recommended.

I found Babycakes online and called for information on a cake and mini cupcakes for a baby shower. Patrice, was so helpful in advising me on cake size and flavors. I ordered cupcakes and a 10 inch cake with rough icing as I wanted to just place a few flowers on top. My preset was followed up with an email. The cupcakes and blood orange cake with raspberry filling were a huge success on the day of the baby shower. Great product with customer service to match. I will definitely use Babycakes again.

Babycakes is a dessert shop located in the Hillcrest neighborhood of San Diego, California. It is within walking distance of Balboa Park and is easily accessible via public transportation. Cupcakes are their claim to fame; their cupcake fillings are something to explore. So far, I have tried the Tres Leches, Black Bottom, Red Velvet, and Blood Orange cupcakes. They also have a wine bar with two outdoor patios. The staff is quite nice and attentive. Babycakes offers a relaxing environment and easy-going atmosphere, so dress as you wish. If you like, they also serve food. Their website provides you with their menu and a link to a YouTube video, which gives you a glimpse of what the place looks like. Pretty reasonably priced for tourists and out of town folk that are looking for a confectionary delight and/or small meal. Some of the concerns are seating availability. There are a couple of nice couches, but those usually get taken quickly. Usually seating is better during daytime rather than evening. Their wine bar lighting is poor, which can be a good thing depending on how you look at it. There are also some tricky stairs that lead to the cupcake ordering counter. Overall, I would say it is a place you should see if you’re visiting or from out of town!

I went to a baby shower here and it was adorable. The pastries obviously were amazing! Before I left, in my attempt to balance things out, I ordered a veggie panini to go. Roasted to perfection, it was a yummy early dinner!

Decadent, nom-tastic late night snacks! If you ever find yourself in the Hillcrest area following dinner, drinks, or well… do you even need a reason to treat yourself to a cupcake? Perhaps you just decided to have dessert for dinner– no judgement here… one of the best parts about being an adult is making mature decisions like that. Babycakes is definitely one of the best cupcake spots in SD. Their flavors are unique, and it’s always fun to come in here and see what’s rotating through. Our baking friend loves this place so much that she even ordered some sheet cakes of her favorite flavors for her wedding reception. The banana(marble monkey) and blood orange are two of my own favorites. Plus, they have champagne on the menu, which, as far as I’m concerned, pairs well with everything. I also have to highly recommend the crème brûlée cheesecake– a recent discovery during our last stop here. The restaurant itself is just alright– the set up is a bit strange, with a deli counter in the front for ordering desserts, and a full bar in the back. Since you have to order your champagne separately from your cupcakes you can wait 30min to enjoy the two together– and let’s just say I’m not patient once I have a cupcake in hand… And, of course, there’s Hillcrest parking to contend with getting here. If you’re in the area, though, it’s definitely worth a stop!

We came here for a late lunch. We actually walked from Balboa Park to Babycakes. I got a workout and survived. Haha. As soon as we found this place, I was relieved and excited. I have been to the one in Imperial Beach, my hometown, but this location off of 5th Ave. actually sells food other than cupcakes. I ended up getting an iced tea and a meatloaf panini with fries. The meatloaf sandwich was good but wasn’t piping hot as I thought it would be. Thick slice of meatloaf, grilled onions, peppers, and bbq sauce was in this sandwich. It was good and flavorful. The bread was crunchy and perfect texture. The French fries were seasoned lightly and was crunchy in texture. Portions were huge. I only ate half of my sandwich and fries. Hubby was hungry and finished up my leftovers. The pulled pork sandwich was good. It had grilled onions and pickled cabbage. Yum! The bread was soft. For dessert, I had a white cupcake with a mistletoe frosting. The frosting was light and wasn’t sweet. The cake was moist. I was disappointed with the chocolate cupcake. It was gluten free, but it was super dry. I had to drink my iced tea to get the dry feeling out of my mouth. Ugh! Maybe next time, I will try other flavors. There was plenty of seating and our waiter refilled our drinks. I was thirsty more than I was hungry. Cool music was playing in the background which I like in a restaurant. Cool place to hang out and enjoy a cupcake or some food. They open late on Saturday’s which is cool. I highly recommend this place if you are in the area.

This only applies to the coffee. I am sure their cakes deserve praise but the coffee… BAD. Got a Café Au Lait Large. Well, it was watery, no coffee flavor almost resembling dirty water with milk. I believe they made it with the same amount of coffee they’d use for a small cup and topped it off with steamed milk. I asked if it was skim milk but they said it was whole. I brought it up to their attention and they remade it for me, with an extra shot of espresso to improve the flavor. This time, on a small cup. Now, it was so strong it was bitter. Where did you get the beans? I am glad they remade it, they were very nice about it(someone else made the second cup) but it was still not good coffee.

This was truly a magical evening with Babycakes. My fiancé and I came in at 11:30, knowing it was close to closing, but just hoping to grab at last sweet cocktail in the last minutes of my 25th birthday. Chad was our bartender and he not only made us a variety of tasty and well made drinks, but also was an absolute sweetheart! Part of me expected to catch a little bit of attitude because we did walk in a little late and we were well aware that Babycakes is not a «turn up» spot for a Wednesday, but Chad was lovely! Thank you for helping finish this birthday on a great note Chad and Babycakes! We will be back soon, and I promise we’ll come in earlier! ;)

Cupcakes were large and they had a large variety of flavors. We opted for the white chocolate area and chocolate fudge. My white chocolate Oreo cake was very moist and tasted nice. However, I was disappointed in the frosting, tasted to ‘fake’ meaning it lacked flavor and didn’t have a sweet finish I expect in a frosting. Secondly the Oreos on top were not hard but soft, which Oreos shouldn’t be. The chocolate fudge cake was surprisingly dry and the frosting had the same negative affect on my tongue. The service was friendly and offered suggestions as we had a hard time choosing cupcakes. For $ 3.75 a piece I’m not sure I will be back if they didn’t quit wow me.

Many unique and classic cupcake choices. Ordered the peanut butter chocolate chip cookie… That hit the spot. And the guy behind the counter was friendly and helpful. But not just cupcakes… there’s southern comfort food, taco Tuesday’s, cocktails. Ambience is cool — nice outdoor and indoor seating area. Will def be back! Updated review: tried taco Tuesday here and bummed there’s no fish/seafood tacos. Manager said they’re planning to add some on the menu in near future. The papas tacos were flavorful. To be fair I didn’t try the meat tacos, but heard they’re ok. Many other great taco places in SD. I probably won’t be back for tacos but will definitely be back for desserts. I like the Staff here… friendly people.

Babycakes provided my gorgeous and delicious wedding cakes! I like to bake myself, so choosing my baker was an important decision to me. I booked my venue 1st, and went searching for cakes 2nd! My groom and I went to a total of 5 cake tastings and inquired with countless others. Babycakes’ prices were reasonable, and we received a discount as they are a preferred vendor for Crowne Plaza San Diego. We had a good consultation appointment with Tania, and she was so helpful and responsive with emails. Very friendly service was received. During the tasting there were only 5 flavors to taste, but that didn’t matter as the top three were on that plate! We decided on the blood orange blueberry(my favorite!), tres leches(crowd favorite) and chocolate decadence. No way could I settle for a plain white cake. I really wanted something fruity. It took me a long time to decide what kind of design I wanted, as I usually work with fondant when I bake. But I knew simplicity and delicious buttercream would be best for our wedding. Through email Tania and I designed the secret groom’s cake, which had a golf theme. She maintained the secret throughout the consultation and discussed the fake estimate with my groom and I, then emailed me the real quote. I really appreciated that! The cakes stayed in beautiful shape throughout the evening, and the cake was moist and so yummy! I highly recommend this company and will return on my anniversary for that blood orange cake!

One day when I come here to eat I will get something other than the Cuban Panini, I’m addicted to this sandwich and really need to try something else. But yummmmmmm Ain’t gonna lie, I come here 98% of the time for dranks with the Boys, it’s great to order a beach bucket of Mimosas and talk mess. Sundays can be cray, I think it starts about 3pm and this place is packed it’s called«Church». Gurrrrlll get your church on! When I’m invited to a friend’s house for dinner or a party I usually try and grab something sweet from their bakery. Always a big hit with the crew. Protip: They have a back patio, so when it’s gets too cray up in the front patio you can take a chillax in the back. *Say hello to Mr. Hello Kitty for me, he’s the big bouncer usually out front.(he has a hello kitty tattoo on his thigh)

IDK why they hype this place up so much. Its alright… I gave it quite a few tries already but every time I get a cupcake here, Its always dry for some reason. Idk if its just the cupcakes but I do wonder how the rest of their desserts are. They are probably good who knows. But from what I’ve experienced, I definitely had better cupcakes. Also, they don’t seem to have great flavors that wow me. Its pretty basic. I wish they had more flavors and weren’t so dry. Venue: hot(temperature hot) no ventilation Service: GREAT Quality of cupcakes: Ok

I had such high hopes for Baby cakes. I was let down by the quality of the cupcakes. I tried two different ones. A vanilla raspberry flavor which was a bit dry inside, and tres leche which didnt have the texture of most tres leche cakes. Instead of being moist and dripping with the milk cream, it was also pretty dry. The inside was more of a cream texture. I thought it was better than the other cupcake. We ordered at the counter and the line moved quickly. The patio is so cute. It has umbrellas upside down hanging and the seating is perfect for people watching in Hillcrest. My friend tried the cream brulee cheesecake and that tasted good. I think Id like to try some of the other desserts instead of cupcakes when I come back. I also need to take advantage of the bar side.
