Bella Donna’s

I tried out Bella donnas today and was so happy with my experience. I saw Alexis and she did SUCH a great job. I am usually terrified to go to new places because of the countless horrible experiences I’ve had with hair dressers but Alexis listened to what I wanted, and made it look better than I expected. She gave me tips on helping me with my super dry hair, and also gave me a discount for being a new customer! I would highly recommend her and will absolutely be returning

They are very nice there but when I went for a root touch up, highlight and a trim the stylist missed a section right on the front of my head. I’ve never had a stylist miss the front before… sure maybe a few strands underneath weren’t highlighted or something but never on the front of my head. I didn’t notice it at first because she styled my hair and with my hair down and my side part I couldn’t see it.
She was very nice and accommodating when I called to go back and have it fixed. However she still missed a part of the original spot. I will not go back. But I did like the hair cut.

I’ve never really loved any hair cut that I’ve ever gotten until I recently had my hair cut by Paul. Being one who has kept her hair long as sort of a mental security blanket, I decided to go for a much shorter «a line» cut. I was terrified to get my hair cut short however I have been dying for change and I told Paul to just go for it. He worked his magic and I couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome. I’ve never had a particular place/​person whom I’ve gone to consistently to get my hair cut but Paul has changed that. As long as I’m living in San Diego I will definitely get my hair cut by Paul. He is great, the salon is super comfortable and sweet, and the price is right. Thanks Paul!

I LOVE my haircut and don’t mind a 15 mile drive to get there! Besides a spectacular cut and salon service… Ocean Beach is TWO blocks away… always a pleasant, productive and great grooming afternoon.

I came in for an organic hair color and a trim 1 week before my wedding.
I had A-​line bob (longer in front, shorter in back) and just needed a simple trim to clean up the line. Kathy was my stylist. I told her I don’t want to change the style or length and only need a cleanup trim. By the way, I found out that her wedding was one week after mine, so we chatted about planning and I was so happy that someone who knows the importance of wedding is doing my hair. Boy I was wrong…
Next thing you know, I saw chunks of hair on the floor that are at least 3 inches long! I told her she cut way too short! But she said she is not changing length and that I will see once she styles it. When she styled, my hair style became something entirely different. She cut random chunks off around my face (supposedly the longest part), now I don’t have A-​line bob. She also parted my hair at the middle before she started to cut my hair. When I told her I usually part at the side, she said it doesn’t matter and she proceeded to cut my hair. I’m no pro, but I’m sure it matters!!! As expected, once she parted my hair at the side I got random layers only on one side too.
I was holding back my tears when I told her this is not what I asked for. I’m not the person to freak out over a haircut usually. Hair grows eventually. But this was one week before my wedding!!! She told me «I’m sorry if you didn’t like this, but your original haircut was like 4 different haircuts in one. I had to do this to fix it. The good news is that now you have a blended haircut». Really??? I used to get so many compliments on my haircut from strangers. I loved the style. That was the hair I wanted to wear for my wedding photos that I will keep for long time to come. I blame myself for going to a new person right before my wedding but I needed the organic hair color as I found out I became pregnant. Besides, I didn’t think a stylist from a decent salon can really mess up a simple trim!
I don’t know if Kathy doesn’t have the fundamental skills, or she just didn’t care what I asked for. I don’t know which is worse.
In the end, I had to get hair extensions from elsewhere to restore my previous style. It cost me $ 330!!! This was by far the worst experience I’ve ever had at a hair salon.

This is a fantastic salon. I have been having my hair done by several of the hairdressers for the last couple of years, and they all do a fantastic job. The salon itself has a very nice décor. No pretensions, no drama. A fantastic vibe with very talented people. You won’t be disappointed.

Kathy is amazing! I have been to many-​a-​salon and never was quite satisfied with the way my blonde highlights turned out– always too brassy or just slightly off color. Kathy got it perfect the first time and she has cut/​style talents too! Salon has comfortable, clean, laid back vibe. They use John Master’s Organics. Always have current magazines to read and snacks too! Just a great overall experience!

Great experience! I have walked by this salon a million times and have never gone in until today. Super comfy atmosphere and very nice people. I had my hair cut by Paul and I love it! Looks so heathy and beautiful. I am currently in the process of growing my hair out and I received great advice from Paul on how to do so. I will definitely go back and I recommend everyone check this place out.

My best friend raved about Kathy @ Bella Donna’s… oh yea Kathy! As a mutual friend from childhood I thought this could either be freaking awesome or go south and now every time I’d have a new hair cut and color on Facebook she’d know it didn’t work out with her. well. good news it did. She rocks!
I’m rocking the ever so cool Kardash ombré look right now and it’s perfect, I get props on it all the time. Last night I brought by curly Q boyfriend there and he was impressed… and so was I ! I really love how well his hair was cut!

I come to Bella Donna’s just to have my hair done by Paul, and I drive all the way from north Oceanside to Ocean Beach just to for him. I found Paul through some of my friends that also had their hair done by him. The main reason I ended up trying him wasn’t because they raved about how great he was, but because of how beautiful and healthy their hair was– I mean their hair just SHINED and was so rich in color and depth. I started going to him a few years ago and have followed him to the different locations he has been at, he is THAT good. I always get compliments from people on my hair, especially in regards to the color and shine. He is extremely personable and very accommodating to scheduling. I highly recommend Paul for all your hair styling needs!!!

I recently had my hair done by Shana at Bella Donna’s and she exceeded my expectations, which are quite high when it comes to hair. I have been getting my hair styled, highlighted, colored, and cut by professionals and by myself since the age of 15. I have curly, thick, naturally dark hair so after getting my hair ruined by stylists with no experience with my type of hair, I decided to only go to salons in Mexico, where they knew how to work with my hair. Since moving to the Bay Area going to Mexico to get my hair done is not as convenient and my last hair experience in San Francisco was, as I had expected, disappointing to say the least. So when my sister recommended Bella Donna’s I was hesitant but desperate so I agreed to go. Shana, who claims she is not an expert on curly hair, actually listened to what I had to say about my hair type and did exactly what I wanted. She cut my hair dry and curly, which no one has ever done to me except for when it is straightened, to make sure it would work. She was very thorough when highlighting and toning my hair. I normally leave after color and cut or have the stylist style it curly because most of them leave me with a puffy fro when trying to blow dry or flat iron it straight. She insisted in styling it straight against my initial warning and did an amazing job. I will continue to go to Bella Donna’s as long as Shana or someone as good as her does my hair.

I saw Jen at Bella Donna’s for years, but unfortunately she moved so I had to find a new stylist. Totally scary but I had not choice. Kathy S. at Bella Donna’s took her place and she was amazing! I am extremely picky when it comes to my hair and she was very knowledgeable, didn’t rush through the cut, went above and beyond… and the outcome was great. I love my hair and I now feel confidence I have found my new hair stylist in SD! Would totally recommend her to any of my girl friends!

My friend’s hair always looked great so I asked her where she went. She referred me to Jenn Mauntel at Bella Donna’s. I love Jenn. She gives me an amazing cut and not only do I actually like my hair now, I get a ton of compliments. That NEVER happened before. She’s a genius at color too.

Paul gave me a great cut at a great price! He took time to layer and style every piece! I would definitely recommend Bella Donna’s!
