Great bar, cool bartenders, Matt (owner) rocks. Music and film selection impeccable. Classy ass place in a neighborhood that hasn’t lost its grit. Come drink all ye gentle folk. Lounge, be cool, shoot pool, enjoy the real San Diego.

Great place I highly recommend it! They often have live music and excellent selections on the jukebox! The people who work there are awesome too!

There’s two pool tables and a bunch of tables to sit around. The bar doesn’t have a big selection of beers, but not bad overall.

A buddy was supposed to play in a band at this spot but fool thought he was axl rose so he didn’t show until an hour after he was supposed to be on. by then, i done bailed however, I did have a drink and my god they serve’em extra stiff here. The crowd is interesting… and a cool hangout for a drink or two

Small nostalgic bar kind of off the beaten path, but actually on the beaten path. I love the older décor. It feels authentic. The drinks are good too. And if you’re hungry there might be a food truck parked outside. The bartender knows his stuff and his beers. Also has great taste in music. We had a really cool low key time there with friends. Would go back before the urban sprawl gets there and makes it unbearable.

I don’t Unilocal much — but this place rocks! And the taco truck is «worth the ride» Awesomeness!!! The 80’s party is just what I needed.

I will always be a huge fan of the Black Cat bar. This is one of my favorite dive bars in San Diego. It’s a great place to come play pool, drink some buds (it’s SO nice to get away from craft beer sometimes!) and enjoy a summers night. Staff are wonderful people, parking isn’t difficult, and there’s usually a food truck outside.

I am not sure that this bar has paid its electric bill, as it was so dark inside that even a BLACK CAT would easily have been tripped over (or at least never found!). Then there was the Mexican food truck (aka «Roach Coach») that had more customers out in front of it, then the bar did inside! If you are looking for a dark place to engage in an illicit activity inside a bar, this is the place. If you are looking for a place to to actually SEE what you are drinking, or the pool balls, or to whomever you are speaking to, then go somewhere else.

Back in 2008ish i remember this bar being Nancy’s Pub, But the black cat suits it very well. I should stop in one of these days for old times sake to play pool with the hubby or something.

Best bartenders ever! Rude jerks came around hastleing a friend and I and they quickly stepped in and kicked their butts out with no regrets! Friends and I always have a great time here.

Yes, I like how this place has become one of my regular hangouts when I have a couple xtra bucks for beer after work during the week. I enjoy how they keep up a good appearance of the bar, keep the prices of the drinks reasonable… the booths, the subway tile & pool tables. On weekends it tends to get a bit busier as you could expect & sometimes theres a cover.

I have been here twice now, and I am going to keep going back! The first time I checked it out, they had a Black Sabboth tribute band — they were really good. I just went in today at happy hour — they have great happy hour prices. The bartender was a bit.stiff. but nice enough. The crowd seemed to be regulars. The TV was showing the Wizard of Oz. Ha!
Great spot to just take in a drink and unwind on an early Friday.

My favorite local bar because it’s walking distance & beer is yummy & of course the fun part is playing pool while listening to classic 70’s music on a jukebox. Can’t get any chiller than that

Stopped by the Black Cat for a night cap, this place is the perfect dive bar mixed with a sense of sophistication that really makes this bar stand out above the rest! Will keep stopping in for a drink or two!

We were excited to visit this bar since we frequently pass by and never made it inside. We loved the ambient and the people were more than friendly and welcoming. We arrived to the bar (place was not as busy as expected for a Saturday night) and it took exactly 15 minutes for us to get served. I’m not an experienced drinker so I usually always ask for a suggestion when ordering beer. The bartender (a woman whose name I don’t remember) was extremely rude and dismissive. I specifically asked her if the cherry cider beer tasted like beer (if that makes any sense) and she said yes, it’s delicious. I got my beer and it tastes nothing like beer; it was like a bland, warm soda with a hint of old apple. I asked if she could switch for me and angrily she said no, I can’t put it back. I refused to drink my beer and sadly, during the hour that we were there, she not once stopped to ask is if we needed anything else.
Will I come back here? I would but since there are other places nearby that would not jeopardize losing a new customer by refusing to switch out a five dollar beer, I may just keep driving towards North Park and enjoy friendlier customer service and better quality beer.

Very cool bar. I came here Friday for the the first. I realized It’s the type of bar you go to when you’re feeling a little bit low key but still looking to have a fun time. It’s more of a «hipster» type mentality here. A lot of people who are jut super relaxed and not overly into their looks like the normal bar scene.
They’ve got a pool table, so I’ve been known to hustle a bit here lol. Also they have a very solid selection of alcohol I always go with the vodka and Rockstar because that’s just what I do. Certainly a cool place to check out and grab a few drinks.
Plus an added bonus was their was a lot of nice looking ladies in there.

Unpretentious, no gimmicks, great jukebox, couple of taps for craft beers, tall cans, and stiff drinks. This place has the feel of a Bar in LA or San Francisco but with out the gentrified crowd. If you live in City Heights this should be your place to enjoy beer and cocktails. If you are not from here then GTFO!

Fell in L O V E with this bar! If you are a local looking for a new spot or passing through STOP HERE!!! Amazing ambience, drinks & Ladies the bathroom was very clean! We drove for and 1 ½ to see a favorite band Yes Ma’am (youtube them!) we got great music (which was a given) but we were very surprised by how much we enjoyed this Bar. We will absolutely make the drive to come hang out here again! Awesome awesome place! Black Cat Bar is bomb!

I like this place a lot. The old bank turned in to a bar has a lot of character. 2 nice big pool tables smack in the middle. Came on a Sunday afternoon when it was quiet and the bartender was great. She knows how to make drinks and super personable and easy to talk to. Margaritas and micheladas are delicious and cheap. Not sure if I’d dig it as much on a busy night but gonna give it a try. Afternoons, you can’t go wrong. Definitely the best option in the area.

Black Cat is probably one of the most laid back bar there is never any issues. Alcohol is cheap. I shoot lots of pool here and really enjoy the environment. I have never seen a place so unique. They have the best jukebox in town. If you haven’t been here give it a try. They have live shows. It’s a whole different scene. The owner is super friendly. There is street tacos right outside as well. I can’t imagine a better night with a cold beer, pool and street tacos! Seriously amazing.
