This place is amazing! I can’t talk enough about how great it is to find a place that is not only affordable for our family of 3+1 on the way, but has gluten-free pizza for me, and non-GF for my husband. We usually have to choose or pay $ 30+ for 2 separate pizzas, and when we can’t afford 2 pizzas, we never agree on toppings since my son and I don’t eat pork. This way, we all get what we want, with leftovers, for about $ 20! So awesome. Praise be to the person(s) who thought this place up. I love it.

Great spot for quick, affordable pizza, salads and small sweets. We had their pepperoni pizza and a basili cheese combo. Both pizzas were really good. Nothing too heavy or greasy. Perfect sized pizzas for each person to eat. They also offer military discounts!

Another 5 stars for another Blaze location. They seem to get it right at every location that I have visited. Great service, quality food and all around great prices.

I guess it’s not my favorite pizza place. Tried to do a to-go phone order in advance and was told I had to go online to do it. I guess calling in a to-go order is too hard to be accommodated. Hmmm… Just a tad disappointed…

Reminds of me Chipotle or Subway because you can make your own pizza! For less than 10 bucks and can add as many toppings as you want. The crust is pretty thin so some may or may not like it. I personally enjoy thin crust pizzas. It’s like a small pizza with about 6 slices so it’s more for one person than to share unless you have a small stomach. There are different cheeses, sauces, veggies, meat, drizzles after the pizza finish cooking, etc. so eat to your heart’s desire!

Cool concept & good pizza, but I was seriously disappointed with their selection of beers– only IPAs & pale ales :-/ On the plus side– they offer vegan cheese!

$ 5 for a simple pie made with fresh ingredients and fired right in front of your eyes? Yes that is a win! They have unlimited toppings for $ 7.95, totally worth it! staff is nice too!

Of course you have to compare it to Project Pie and Pieology. Blaze has the lackluster crust of the three, but it has the best toppings. I always build my own with the following ingredients: Spicy red sauce ricotta cheese Italian sausage roasted garlic bulbs fresh basil cherry tomatoes roasted zucchini caramelized onions roasted red peppers green bell peppers mushrooms artichoke So, if the most important thing on a pizza are the toppings, you’ll love Blaze. If crust is more important to you, go to Project Pie. If crust and toppings are equally important, go to Pieology.

Cross my heart and hope to die, stick a needle in my eye, I swear I’ll never be a vegetarian. True to my omnivorous cravings, I ordered my Build Your Own pizza at Blaze for $ 7.95, and added the spicy red sauce, pepperoni, meatballs, mozzarella and feta and goat cheese, mushrooms, onions, other humble veggies, and don’t forget the oregano. When the pizza was finished cooking, they added olive oil and arugula, as requested. Delish! I’m happy to say that they are using fresh red onions once again, and they are much better than frozen onions. Also, the spicy red sauce was once again full of flavor.(It’s not super spicy, but it’s spicy enough to be flavorful. It’s house made.) Suspiciously, I had a bite of my husband’s vegetarian pizza with vegan cheese.(Yes Vin is experimenting with vegetarianism. o-;) I don’t like vegan cheese. It has a long aftertaste that reminds me of blue crayons. However, Vin was delighted with his pizza, which was made to his satisfaction. Blaze fast-fires their pizzas in 180 seconds, and the crust has a great texture. It’s not too crispy and not too soft… it’s just right. Blaze on Balboa has an ever-eager-to-please staff. They always greet us and ask us how the food tastes. I’ll definitely return to this pizzeria. There are plenty of options, and they also have a gluten-free crust, which I haven’t tried.

I’d been to similar places like Oggi’s, but didn’t think that this made to order, small pie format was particularly successful. However, for around $ 10, Blaze is a great deal and very tasty. The best part I think is the crust, it doesn’t come across as thin or under cooked. The worst part about this place is the cluster duck that is the parking lot of this area at lunch time. I wish it were easier to find parking at this place!

3.5 stars. $ 7.95 for a make-it-yourself pizza. Advertised bake time of around 2 – 3 minutes, but it probably took closer to 5 minutes. The toppings here are ‘fancier’ than the ones at Pieology, but the pie itself just wasn’t as good. I think this was mainly because of the sauce. The classic red sauce is completely flavorless and unsalted. At other places, I don’t need to add salt, and the pizza is perfectly seasoned. You’ll need to add salt to this pizza. But what if it becomes oversalted? Yeah, that’s why it’s easier when all the sauces are already pre-salted. LIKES + The crust is really cute with a cute lip that clearly separates the crust and toppings. + Good toppings like applewood bacon, cherry tomatoes, sauteed onions, whole caramelized garlic cloves, fresh herbs, ricotta, even vegan cheese.

Quite a few times coming here, I couldn’t believe I haven’t reviewed this place. I don’t «Blaze» for recreation, but this pizzeria chain admittedly caught my pizza cravings repeatedly and got me «blazin’» pizzas on the regular. I have been blazin’ for pizza here to a point where I am a frequent customer and one of the staff remembers my name. That’s awesome. What a place to set the restaurant«high» in customer service. There is something that cooking pizza in a big brick style oven that makes them crazy delicious. Pretty straightforward concept, you are part of an assembly line in where these pizza aficionado artists guide your appetite and your preferences into creating your«build your own» pizza pie. Yes, with unlimited toppings. Say what? I have yet to try every thing in one pie, and I asked one of the staff. If someone has done that before. They said, «only all the time!» If you are not creative in your pizza ways they do have preselected pizza options. I recommend the BBQ chicken pizza. Again you can add whatever toppings after that. They serve local brew beer in bottle if you wish to imbibe. Haven’t tried their dessert s’mores pie, but man their blood orange lemonade is like good to wash down those pizza juices and toppings down your gullet. To put it «bluntly,» just come here and eat a whole thin crust pizza for less than 10 bucks. You will be blown away for what you are paying for. Or you can go to the other competitor across the street. «Just blaze»

Definitely one of the better pizza places I’ve tried. To be perfectly clear, I’m not the biggest pizza fan to begin with, so I feel like the fact I’m giving this place 4-stars is pretty significant. Anyway, I came here with a couple friends on a weekday for lunch and the place was fairly empty. After studying the menu for a bit, I decided to go for a regular pizza with red sauce and LOTS of veggies(I’ll spare you the specific names), and no cheese(call me crazy but I’m not the biggest fan of cheese either, which is actually probably the main reason I don’t particularly like pizza). The whole ordering process was extremely quick since it was basically Chipotle-style. My pizza was ready within 5 minutes, and I was genuinely surprised by how much I enjoyed it! The ingredients tasted fresh, and I loved the thinner, slightly crispy crust/dough. Some bites of the red sauce did get a bit too tangy for me though — but that’s my only complaint. Overall, I’d highly recommend this place if you’re looking for solid, fast, and tasty food(for a super reasonable price, too). I particularly like the concept at work here, since you really get to personalize your pizza to however you like it.

Let the pizza wars begin! There are a few options now in San Diego for create-your-own pizza. However, I’d have to say Blaze has my vote right now. I know I know, pizza is pizza but its not! You can taste the difference in the dough, sauce, and the topping choices are perfect. My favorite toppings? Roasted Garlic and Ricotta cheese. The service is equally as awesome. They’re quick to get your order in and quick to get your pizza to you. The Blood Orange Lemonade is pretty good too.

4.5 stars. Right up there with Fired Pie in Phoenix as the best«create your own» pizza places! My wife was craving Soup Plantation tonight(I hate that place and refuse to eat there), so I went with her and watched her eat. After she was done, I needed something to grub. I had read my Unilocal friend Mel J’s review of this place and decided to come down and check it out. Side rant real quick. When the hell did Kearny Mesa get so damn crowded? I used to live down the street from here and never in my life have I seen so many cars/people in this neighborhood as I did tonight. The parking lot was a cluster and shitty drivers were everywhere! It was a chore just getting here. Anyways… back to the pizza. These type of pizza places are popping up all over the damn place! Some are definitely better than others! I am glad to report that Blaze is awesome! I walked in and was greeted by a young lady who asked me if I had ever been there before. I replied with, «No.but for the most part, I know how everything works» so she didn’t have to waste her own time explaining everything to me ;-). I went with a «create your own» pizza with red sauce, mozzarella, meatballs, pepperoni, spinach, onions, regular garlic and roasted garlic. After she topped my crust with sauce and cheese she handed my pizza off to another guy. About him… he was super friendly and chatty! He asked how my night was, I asked how his day was etc. Great customer service and he definitely built some good rapport with me. I appreciated that! He finished topping my pizza and then threw it in the oven. I got mine«well done» and a few minutes later, my pizza was done. Here is how it was… My Pizza– As with all pizza places of this type, if your pizza isn’t good, it’s nobodies fault but your own! I took this to go and ate it while my wife went shopping at Sprouts. Its very similar to all the other type places but a few things about this one that stood out. A. Their crust is a bit thicker/chewier than most places. I noticed it right away when i walked in that their dough had a decent sized puff/lip on it. I knew it would provide a better chew around the edges. B. They offer way more toppings than other places. I have only been to 2 places that have roasted garlic as a topping and Blaze was one of them. They also offer multiple kinds of sausage/meatballs etc. Infinite choices! C. Every employee I encountered was extremely friendly and personable. That means a lot. As far as the pizza goes, it was great! The spinach cooked down, the roasted garlic provided a great punch, the meats were flavorful and the onions gave it some crunch. Well done is definitely the way to go, too. The crust had a nice char on it and the outer edge was puffy/chewy and flat out delicious! Overall, I will definitely come back. It left such a good impression on me and is so close to our hotel, I think I may have to come back at least one more time this weekend to get another pizza. It was really delicious! The same guy who made my pizza wished me a good evening and a fun time the rest of my stay in San Diego. For the customer service alone, I would come back here over other places that might taste a little better or cost a little less. It was a great experience and a fantastic pizza! Good job, Blaze… good job!

My appetite was eclectic today and I decided to try a little of everything. I decided on won ton soup, pizza and of course dessert. I’m really enjoy DIY pizza at blaze vs the place across the street. The ingredients are always fresh and always made to your specification. Today pizza is red sauce with mozzarella and parmesan cheese with a ton of veggies and of course pepperoni. This is one of my favorites always extremely good.

Custom personal pizzas for under $ 10? Win! So many toppings and no judgment for getting everything. The sauces have nice flavor, the employees are friendly, and my leftover slices made for an awesome breakfast the next morning. My only complaint? There was no arugula in the salad bar, but apparently it’s at the end and you can get it when you pick up your pizza. Someone should make this more clear because my overloaded pizza clearly needed one more topping. :)

I’ve seen this place in passing a few times. So I was finally able to make it out here. I guess I came here at the right time(around 4:30pm). Not busy at all. This place is spacious and has a huge amount of indoor and outdoor seating. It is very similar to Pieology. Think customized pizza assembly line style like Subway. Basically you can order: 1) a cheese pizza 2) a one topping pizza 3) a «signature pizza» Or 4) build your own I asked the employee there which of the signature pizzas he liked. He told me his favorites were the Red Vine and Green Stripe. Service was good, the employees were friendly. I skimmed over the ingredients of the Red Vine and it sounded good, so that’s what I ordered. Choosing a signature pizza does not limit you only to those ingredients; you can add other toppings if you wish. I decided to add pepperoni, spinach, red onion, and mushroom to my Red Vine. My partner in crime ordered a BBQ Chicken pizza. The pizza were cooked in their oven and came out in about 10 minutes or so. The pizzas were hot, fresh, and smelled great! While we waited for the pizzas to cool down enough so we could eat, I lifted up a piece of the pizza and checked out the crust. I was happy to see that it wasn’t overly singed/burnt, but looked like it was cooked very evenly and had a nice color to it. In the past at Pieology, I’ve had my pizzas overcooked(burnt) to the point where it was inedible. I’m not sure what process they use here(I was too busy checking the joint out and taking pictures), but next time I’ll watch more closely. After a few minutes the pizza cooled down enough and we were able to eat. The gooey melted cheese combined with other ingredients along with the thin crispy crust was perfection. We both loved our pizzas! Overall, a great experience here. This place will be one of my new, go to, pizza spots. I gotta bring my God daughter… I know she’ll love it too.

I’m part of the Blaze Craze! This is some seriously amazing pizza. It doesn’t get much better than this! The ideal crust — made super thin with coal fired flavor! Today we got the Red Vine with some variations(the closest thing to a traditional Margherita pizza). Please don’t call this pie(which is a different sweet dish full of sugar and cream and should never be compared)! The only thing better than the pizza here is the s’mores dessert. It is perfectly melted! Unless I made my own, I doubt I would find a better s’more(it should be on the top dessert list for San Diego)! The patio in Kearny Mesa is plentiful and dog friendly. The staff check in on us… a great overall experience. We will keep going back for s’more!
