So I have been going to this shell for years. Jamin, the service guy, is the best I trust him with all my cars. When I had my Honda beater a few years back he was always honest about what I absolutely bad to fix and what I might be able to push off to the next pay day or 2. I love that this location is ²⁴⁄₇ so on my late nights home from downtown I can grab a bag of chips and chocolate right before I hit the freeway. Not to mention early in the morning the coffee is always super hot and they have multiple flavors to choose, my favorite is white chocolate macadamia! I just got a new 2014 ford and I am still going to go visit Jay for my oil change. Quick efficent service. Only thing to complain about may be the crazies who walk on the lot every once and a while but I have to say I have seen one or two of the workers chase them away when they have bothered me or other customers for money or whatever they are asking for at the time. I have to say it can’t get better than that in my book. Yeah the night guys aren’t always the friendliest but hey I know I sure as hell wouldn’t be all smiles if I was working at 4am either so I cut them some slack; everyone else is always nice to me.

This gas station is located across the street from The Worldmark Wyndham Hotel. I made a quick run in and out… Picked up pain reliever (overpriced Aleve…) and a bottle of iced tea. No petroleum for me.
The store was well put together. The attendant was cool & quick. No complaints…

As a TV journalist with 30 years of experience I am always looking to tell a good story. I have found such a story at this gas station whose chief mechanic, Jamen, is hands down, the most competent and honest mechanic I have ever come across. I have referred to him probably thirty people over the years who say the same thing: ‘This guy is so honest!’

They’ve recently improved they’re customer service!!! The associate many customers as well as myself have had the unfortunate pleasure to deal with is no longer employed at this gas station, HOORAY!

Id give this place 0 stars, along with everybody else. It takes a lot to write a review on a gas station, I don’t even know why the cashier (male with glasses) was beyond rude. I refused to even buy water as I was driving back home to vegas. If I could personally call this corporation and file a complaint on how rude this man was I absolutely would, I don’t know how he hasn’t been terminated due to his shitty attitude. THIS MAN OBVIOUSLY IS MAD AT THE WORLD!!! Stay away from this place.

At this lovely gas station, you will find overpriced gas, and some of the rudest nighttime attendants I have ever encountered. I have been several times, purely out of necessity and convenience, as it’s right across the street from my old apartment. But I would advise skipping this stop if you can, and take your money somewhere where theu will treat you with a grain of respect. There’s not many options downtown, so try to gas up outside of downtown as it will be much nicer to your bank account.
I will say this, during the day, the attendants on duty are a dramatic departure from their nighttime colleagues. They actually trear you like paying customers. Perhaps the young guys should train the older gentleman on professionalism and being just decent people.

Worst customer service… I walked in to grab some ice and buy some bottled waters. I asked if they offered bags of ice, the cashier (mouth full of eating his burger) said yeah and pointed to the bag angrily that I was interrupting his lunch. Maybe you should have had some one relieve you for your lunch break if your going to get upset at CUSTOMERS coming in to BUY stuff. I went to the counter to purchase all the items with my hands full and asked for a bag and he ignored me the first time, I then asked again and he looked annoyed and reached for a bag, at that point I said never mind and grabbed my 2 bags of ice and 3 bottles of water and left. I hate going into the store of this gas station, the owners seriously need to re evaluate this guys employment.

Customer services isn’t a priority here if you choose this station u are to expect cashiers to not care for your transaction and may not even take your transaction. But if they do they will give u an attitude. As far as quality of products it is a win win take head before coming to this station if you I’m a hurry. Unless u have higher authority over them

I don’t get the bad rep of this Shell. The best and one of the few options I guess in Downtown San Diego. I normally just fill the thank when I am sub zero, like just right now, and was crossing fingers driving 163 all the way here so I would not be out of gas. I always feel that this station is there to save my life and I prefer not to think about the higher price. Besides, I really like the lighting, very bright and as woman driving at night and stopping for gas I always feel safe here, even withe the sketchy characters that populate this area. Service, when needed, has been so far very helpful to me.

My husband and I have been coming to this Shell garage for car repairs and oil changes for almost 20 years, and we absolutely recommend them. They are reasonable, reliable, honest, do a great job, and go out of their way to be helpful. Jamin has been there for as long as I can remember, and is always professional, respectful, and even remembers us/​our cars, even if it’s been a long while since we’ve been in (back in the day w/​our Pontiac LeMans, we were in almost every other week, now w/​our Hondas, it’s fortunately much less often!)
If you work downtown, it’s a great place to drop off your car on the way to work for a repair, oil change, check-​up, whatever. Little stuff like new windshield wipers, or even big stuff. Most (maybe all) the bad Unilocal reviews are on the gas statition. I can’t really comment on that — I usually get my gas close to home. But don’t let those scare you away from the garage and the top notch folks there!

It’s close to home but the only discredit to this gas station is the location. I’d have to drive a few blocks just to return back home. The one in Golden Hill is better and .20 cheaper for 90.

The employees are remarkably rude and not helpful at all even if you are the only person there!

I just got an oil change and my bald tires fixed at Bob Stiver’s Shell! Everything is going great with my new tires and the car is running perfectly. I was a walk in and Jaymin took care of me right away. Also the price was right. I go to this gas station quite frequently when I’m in the downtown area and highly recommend it to anyone who needs work on their car or just needs a fill while in the down town neighborhood!

The old guy there is an Ass. I refuse to give them a dime. Don’t go here.

dont say hi or thank you to anyone that goes in there. if the person in charge of hiring is reading this please do yourself a favor and work on something acalled customer service. i know its downtown and you probably get a lot of characters in there. i know because i own a store myself in an area much like this one. however, we have a loyal customer base because we offer GOOOOD customer service.
im always shocked on how rude the people are there. his station in old town is just as bad. i know this sounds like a bad review but go there for yourself and find out… trust me you will be reviewing the same way i am. ttyl

Wow! After reading some of the other reviews, I’m glad that I pay at the pump. But then again… it has it’s own set of issues.
I only stop at this gas station when I’m on my motorcycle. With the fuel economy on that thing, even a 15-​cent price difference is pretty negligible. With that said, I have to say that this place is pretty expensive. If I were driving my car, I would never stop here unless I absolutely had to.
Tonight I was hitching a ride with my sister and her husband in their car (who are Gaslamp locals), and they stopped here because they really needed gas. A beggar came up and very aggressively asked for money. Being locals they said «no» (as a local you’d go broke if you gave money to every beggar that asked for it), and he angrily went on his way. As he left, he cursed at my brother-​in-​law. Since when are you a bad person for not giving free money to someone when they demand it?
So anyway, I think that this gas station should be more proactive about «shooing» away people that pester their customers. Given the price of gas here, it’s the least they could do.
My advice: be sure to fill up before you get downtown. There’s nowhere here you’d really want to stop for gas.

Probably one of the worst places I’ve ever gotten gas and not just because it was damn near 5 bucks a gallon. There were 3 broken pumps, overflowing garbage’s, dirty window fluid, and an extremely mean cashier. I’d rather play gas tank roulette than ever fill up here again.

It took me a year to get around to writing this review. Living downtown your gas station options are limited. The most convenient station for me is the Shell station on A street. After countless rude encounters with the elderly gas station attendant I decided to boycott the gas station. Recently in emergency (late for work and need gas) situations I have used the pump but I will never fill up the tank there.
I hope the owner/​manager/​whoever reads this and instills a basic level of customer service into his employees. I’m not asking for much, just a human that doesn’t make it clear that he hates all life.

This is my review on the squeegee, not the customer service, and I didn’t require any fuel this time.
The squeegee was not worn out and actually pushed the water nicely, leaving streak-​free glass. The water receptacle had an ample amount of soapy water. This is nice, as last night’s passing rain showers forced a visit, especially because the windshield wiper motor either pooped out on me or the fuse was tripped.
My remaining options was either hitting up this conveniently located station or put the pedal to the metal and go fast enough that the water would blow across the windshield. I doubt the local authorities would appreciate the latter as a reasonable course of action for exceeding posted limits.
I wish I had more time to exchange playful banter with the attendant, but getting home safely was a priority.

When it comes to gas stations downtown, you pretty much have two choices: Shell… and, uh… Shell.
Why there aren’t more places to get gas when the city is trying to brand East Village as a hip place to live is beyond me… but it should be alleviated sooner than later. If the reason is ‘take the trolley,’ then they’re sorely mistaken, because the trolley sucks.
I’m sure the folks that work here are quality people, but it’s amazing how lackadaisical they are. Seems like they’re always anywhere but the front counter to help you pay for your petrol. AND, it always seems like it’s more expensive than anywhere else in the city.
But again, being the only station in the area, I guess you can’t complain too much. I’d give my left pinky finger for a Chevron or Texaco to bring some balance to the area.
