Overall it was nice visit. They had four beers on tap and I enjoyed them all. The stout was really good and the saison has a nice refreshing flavor that was new to me. Unusual as there is always a beer or two that I do not agree with. The place is small and the staff is pretty friendly. They have very limited hours and the location is way out there. Unless your really into beer or in the area, I do not see many people coming here for a random visit. They do not offer snacks. They have a few chairs, one table, and a small bar that may accommodate 5 or 6 people. On a Friday night, the area is almost empty so I would definitely recommend map quest it before driving out here.

Great little brewery with interesting flavors. I had for the first time in my life a habiscus infused beer. Extremely refreshing yet with character. The place is small and definitely a go back to brewery. It is a bit hard to find but once you are there it all works out. Cool paintings just pricey for sale in the bar. Don’t get there hungry though — no kitchen here.

After a long drive through the back roads of Chula Vista, CA the fam and I decided to visit this neat little hole in the wall. A skip and a hop away from the Otay Border Crossing and State Prison(convenient for those looking to get plastered and drive home), Border X Brewing offers a delicious array of Mexican and German inspired brew flavors. From Abuelita Chocolate to Habiscus(Jamaica for my brown brothers and sisters) infused beer, this little place definitely hits the spot in terms of flavor. If I had to add a negative point here, I would. Okay, what the hell, I will. Avoid bringing the kids. While most breweries enjoy having kids(future beer drinking customers) and dogs, I would say, leave the kids home. And even the pets(even if your kids are your pets). As we enetered, all eyes seemed to roll over to my kids and I and suddenly the room went silent. How they broke the ice you ask? Them: «So you brought the whole family?» Me:(Smirking) «Yeah.» Husband: «Can I get the Blood Saison?» And the experience went on.

Rolled up on Friday night for their first large event with San Diego Taco Company slangin $ 1 tacos. Small place with standing room only with cocktail tables. Taste room is warehouse doorway. Had custom art pieces on display. Pandora playing on background. 4 beers on tap. IPA fresh, not too hoppy. Pale Ale had citrus taste and my groups favorite, Stout made with Abuelitas Mexican chocolate and worth a try, Saison made with hibiscus and taste like jamaica– perfect for hot sunny day. Growlers refills for $ 15, but don’t have any to sell… yet. Owners are cool and excited to build business. Definitely going back.

I went today to try their beers with no expectations. Since San Diego has 80+ breweries one wonders what’s going to make this brewery different? And I can tell you, aside from the culture that they are imprinting to their business, the fusion of flavours that are brought together by the upbringing of the owners, and by living at the border and getting ideas from anywhere on the world are paying off. I’m not a fan of Hefeweizen but the addition of hops made it interesting… the Porter with notes of clove and cinnamon was one of my favorites. The Stout which actually had chocolate abuelita as one of the ingredients(Mexican chocolate) was quite good, and a Saison with hibiscus and agave was fenomenal, perfect for a hot day, very refreshing and with the right balance of bitterness and sweetness. Definitely worth checking, they are open to experiment with new things… while I was there, they were brewing and IPA, so I’m going back soon!
