Comfort Inn Gaslamp Convention Center

The location and cheap price for the rooms are really the only good thing about this place!
Not only did the front desk guy charge my card for another persons room as I already paid for mine and said there was nothing they could do until next week about getting my money back but they basically said sorry not our problem call your bank! Which has put me out of 400 dollars that I no longer have to spend now!
The rooms are small but we’re not staying in the room besides go sleep really… It is extremely noisy up until about 3am but hey they do provide you with ear plugs.
The bathroom is really only wiped down and the shower looks clean but if you actually look there is mold and dirt built up! Quite disgusting if you ask me…
I will not be staying here and will not cheap out on a hotel room ever again!
Parking is 20 a day in a parking lot behind the hotel but if you drive a truck be careful as spaces are small!

Really bummed that it wasn’t clear via Unilocal of the inform inn website that parking would be $ 20. Other than that it was exactly what I wanted, cheap. Bed was a full size so me and my boo were kinda squished but in general the place was just right for the price.

A so-​so hotel. Relatively convenient. A good walk to the convention center, but doable. When I first arrived, check-​in went very smoothly and the staff have been very friendly. I was surprised and fairly let down that the hallway décor was very dated (like from the ’70’s dated). Browns and not at all like a modern hotel. Darkish hallways (see pics). The room was decent sized with a work colleague and I sharing a room. The room was clean, beds comfortable, and had normal amenities, soaps, iron, suitcase valise, etc. The window AC unit had a couple of cosmetic broken plastic fins, but worked fine. Oddly, the bathroom had no sink, but we had an extra one right outside in our room. This was weird and I did not like it. Smallish TV, but good lighting near the beds. Wifi was free, but it was also very (painfully) slow. I used an open signal from next door or my own LTE. No Ethernet in the rooms. Parking was an extra $ 20 per day, but was conveniently right behind the hotel. Oddly, my room key kept losing its magnetization, and I had to have it re-​coded 3 times at the front desk during our 5 day stay, and this required both cards present to do. Breakfast was the highlight and was quite unexpected. Substantially more than just juice and croissant, several varieties of fruit, yogurt, eggs, (including hard boiled) sausage, cereals, pastries, etc for a reasonably decent «free» breakfast in a decently lighted space. My colleagues said the coffee tasted burnt however. Would I stay here again? Maybe. It wasn’t my favorite experience, but certainly not uncomfortable in any way. Good value for money compared to other places in the area, and convenient to many things in the area.

What I liked about this hotel: 2-​minute walk from the Gaslamp district, room was bigger than I expected, comfortable bed, a choice between firm or soft pillows, fridge, microwave, hair dryer, coffee & tea in the lobby all day & night as well as in the room, complimentary popcorn, free fruit in the lobby all day, «relax» common room, laundry and computer room, airport pickup, good breakfast from 6:30 — 9:30, earplugs if you are sensitive to the outside noise (I am not so I didn’t need the earplugs), toiletries, flat screen TV, air-​conditioning, affordable, and the front desk concierge named Ashley who was awesome, friendly, and more than helpful.
What I didn’t like about this hotel: a few of the towels were dirty (but when I complained I immediately got new towels), and the iron had something that looked like salt or sugar coming out of it.
Would I stay here again? Yes, definitely, but I would iron my clothes ahead of time and check the towels every day.

This is not a luxurious place to stay. But if you are looking for a small, inexpensive hotel room in the Gaslamp Quarter that won’t break the bank, this place is ok. Even though the hotel was recently renovated, it is apparent that the rooms are old. They also have a bit of a musty smell.
The staff at the desk are very friendly and helpful. As with all Comfort Inn hotels, they offer free wifi and a daily breakfast with a limited selection of hot (eggs, sausage, made-​to-​order waffles) and cold items (bagels, cereal, yogurt), all included with your room rate.
The best thing about this place is that they allow all guests to use a full service gym, Balanced Fitness and Health, about 3 blocks from the hotel for free. The gym has a full assortment of weights and weight machines as well as cardio equipment.

The last time we stayed we had a great experience. This time around, so different. There double room that they posted on booking is a double bed not a double room. Making it very uncomfortable for three girls to stay in. I’ve stayed in plenty of hotels with double room meaning double beds… Parking was included last time we stayed. This time we had to pay. We stayed on a Saturday night. They were so accommodating last time. That I have recommended it to too many of my clients to come stay. I will no longer advice anyone to stay here. Front desk is sweet, but they will not go over and above for their guests. I’m here on a Sunday night and some how they can’t accommodate what we have paid for and now parking isn’t included. Very disappointing! Needless to say.

The only thing this hotel is good for is its location. It’s right in the middle of everything: bars, clubs, restaurants, etc…
If you are going to stay here, AVOID using the safe box. It’s not so, «safe.»
Just stay here to be near everything, but DO NOT keep anything in the safe box, because you’ll come back to no money. :) The cleaners will wipe you dry, as they did to us, and there is nothing you can do about it.

Very clean hotel in a great location. For a twin bed, paid $ 81. Extremely cheap given the location. About 2 – 3 blocks away from petco park which was cool. Overnight was only $ 20 which was surprisingly cheap also. Inside of hotel ass very clean and the staff was very friendly. Complimentary breakfast was actually really good. Would definitely come back. Only 4 stars because the ac started making some really loud noise at night but once I turned it down a little bit it was quiet again (but it did get a little warm due to turning strength of ac down) not a big deal.

First of all, most complaints about this hotel are ridiculous and I’m VERY glad we ignored the bad reviews and stayed here. I have no affiliation with this hotel or chain, it just irritates me that people compare this hotel to a ⁴⁄₅ start hotel and complain about it.
The location is fantastic and although parking is $ 20, it is the cheapest you can find anywhere nearby and the meters on the side streets are free from 8PM-​10AM (mind the street sweeping days though), so if you’re out all day you really don’t have to pay anything.
The room is small, but seriously – you’re in the downtown of a major city. You’re not going to get a Westin-​sized suite unless you want to pay Westin prices… we sure didn’t! Nonetheless it was plenty of room for my bf and I. It was also stocked with bottled water, popcorn, had a microwave and mini-​fridge, and earplugs. Yes, earplugs, because you are in downtown. You can’t stay in downtown without expecting to HEAR downtown.
Also, on the business center by the front desk, there was free travel size toothpaste and hair products (in addition to the soap, lotion, etc in the room).
The sink thing (which SO many people complained about) actually makes sense to me. Having a sink where I leave my toothbrush in a different room from the toilet is much more sanitary and it allows me to do my hair/​makeup while my bf is in the shower. We liked it.
Overall, this is the best deal we found (and we searched a lot) and it was fantastic. I suggest reading the «bad» reviews and deciding if those complaints are actually relevant and make sense to you. We found that they didn’t and we’re glad we ignored them!

At last minute, I literally decided to book a hotel in gaslamp (this was around 8pm on a Sat) and had no luck finding a hotel within a decent price range. The median for a 3.5 star hotel was going for $ 325+ which is typical for gaslamp during the summer and booking at the last minute. I went onto Priceline and put in a bid for $ 150 for a 2.5 star hotel and thought that was a long shot, but it got approved and our room was booked at the Comfort Inn Gaslamp. I’ve known of this hotel for quite a while now but I usually stay at a Marriott property so I was excited to see what this hotel has to offer.

Overall, this hotel was okay for me, but for the price we paid for booking such last minute it was a good deal. Would I stay in this hotel again? Wouldn’t be my first choice but if it came down to price and I was out of other options then yes.

Was in town for one night and got this hotel by Priceline’s blind offer. Would not recommend unless you are really limited in budget. The room was tiny, the bed takes up most of the space and you only have the few inches beyond the bed for the rest of your room. There was no room for a normal bathroom door — it was a slide-​in door. The shower head was black and moldy and does not look to have been cleaned, ever.
The room deserves one star. The additional star is for the free breakfast.

We made reservations about a week ahead of our stay by telephoning the hotel directly. Price was better than The Westin and parking was only $ 20, not $ 40 at the Westin. That includes in and out also. Our daughter lives in Hollywood so homeless folks lying on the sidewalk aren’t too much of a surprise but you are in an urban downtown.
Check-​in was smooth until we saw a box taped to the wall with flashlights «for power outages». We took one just in case but when we got inside of our room, there was a printed paper telling us that there would be «a power outage the next morning between 2:30 to about 6 A.M. Be sure to charge your phones up.» Probably should have been told that when we called to talk to the hotel earlier that day and again at check-​in!
Went back to the desk to find out why we weren’t told and had to settle for «We forgot». Too late at night to change hotels, we would have to use the earplugs they provide in the room and sleep with the windows open. Did I mention the urban downtown? It did eventually quiet down around 3 A.M. and the power was back on around 7 A.M.
The room was comfortable and clean and the breakfast was very good, lots of choices and many of them hot like eggs and sausage, waffles, etc.
When we got back home, I asked to be contacted by a member of management and I was called by Jessica and she rectified the problem to my satisfaction. All in all, an okay place to stay but be on your toes for surprises!

In town for a convention. Stayed here for 5 nights. Overall, an average experience.
The hotel staff were very courteous, helpful and pleasant– the best feature of this hotel. The morning breakfast was about average. The scrambled eggs were a little watery, and the breakfast sausage just looked… weird. Tasted fine. OJ, coffee, and yogurt were all good. Grabbed an apple, and it was sticky. Touched another one, it was sticky too. A few of the bananas were bruised. Gave up on the fruit. The hallway and room carpet looked a little dingy for my taste. The room was clean and orderly. Free wifi was a huge plus. The flat screen tv worked and the picture quality was good. The hotel is located within easy (~15 minute) walking distance of the SD convention center, plenty of restaurants and bars, and a shopping center.
If I were to ever find myself in this area again, and on a tight travel budget, I would definitely stay here again.

Three stars purely on face value. I attend a padres game ever year and one time the hotels in downtown were insanely expensive. Saw this place on kayak and saw that it was very close to petco and gaslamp while reasonably priced. The stay was ok overall but I found it very strange that the sink was basically in sleeping area where the beds were. Nonetheless, it did the trick for a one night stay. It’s a good option for an overnight stay and you don’t mind a no frills, mediocre property.

I needed a room for one night and this was the cheapest around downtown. Room was a double bed. Very small room. A/​C made weird noises throughout my stay and the room stayed a bit humid. I’m not a huge fan of in-​the-​wall air conditioners though.
BUT…the room did what it needed to do — it was a place for me to sleep. Upon checking into the room I did notice they provide you with a free bottle of water and microwave popcorn. That was a nice little touch. Room has a fridge and microwave. Nice perk. Bathroom even came with a nightlight, which is rare for hotels. Staff was super friendly, helpful, and all around nice. Couldn’t have asked for any better from them. Thought it was cool that they do have a laundry room in case you need to do some while you’re there. The free breakfast in the morning was also pretty decent. Has your normal stuff — pastries, bagels, yogurt, eggs, waffles, sausage, cereal, oatmeal, juices, coffee, fruit, etc. Staff was diligent about keeping breakfast items stocked for guests.
I would suggest an updated paint job in the hallways and on the doors to the rooms. Colors are a bit drab and it’s dark. Could stand to be lightened up. That would help.
Overall though… if you need a place to stay for 1 – 2 nights and are on a budget, I’d recommend staying here.
Parking is $ 20 for the night, which is pretty cheap for downtown San Diego. You park in a lot across the street from the hotel.

After checking out I received an additional $ 70 on my bank statement. After calling to inquire what it was from was advised it was from damaged towels. They supposedly had dark marks on it and required them to replace 5 towels. Which I can only assume are from my makeup.
Was advised I should call back to speak to a manager to resolve the issue. I have called 6 times and left 2 messages for a manager Micheal and Jessica neither of which are ever available or in the office even when given their office hours!
In all my stays at various hotels across the country for business and personal needs ranging from 2 – 5 stars, and I have never been charged ANY fee let alone $ 70 in replacement towel fees from washable water based make-​up.
The hotels policy is atroshish and the level of communication regarding the issue is horrible.
I have 3 trips planned for various festivitals in the San Diego Area for the rest of the year and planned to use this particular hotel for its close proximity to downtown as well as the points offered through choice but I will not be using their services let alone recommending them to friends

Pros: Staff was extra friendly and helpful, allowed me to upgrade to a King size last minute. The bed was super comfortable! Great location. reasonably priced compared to other hotels nearby. Breakfast spread had a large variety of hot and cold food but they close it at 930 which I was not told. Only had the choice of cold food leftovers.
I thought it was nice they provide ear plugs for the noise. Anyone who is complaining about noise should have gone to a diff hotel with more then 4 levels. You’re staying in Gaslamp helloooo
Cons: was unaware of the $ 20 parking each day until I checked in. The lot they sent me to was full but they solved that quickly.
The sink outside of the bathroom was a little inconvenient, the carpet was dirty. They only have 1 elevator that’s a little sketchy.
In conclusion: you get what you pay for. perfect hotel if you just need a place to crash.

After an overnight stay here, I would give this place four solid stars.
The hotel is centrally located in the hustle and bustle of SD’s gaslamp district, but the rooms are waaay smaller than most hotel rooms we’ve stayed in. Our room had a full sized bed which was smaller than our queen bed at home, but it was comfy. Also, I woke up to the pipes in the bathroom roaring loudly as other hotel guests (probably above or below us) began to take their morning showers. This was super surprising since I consider myself a heavy sleeper, but light sleepers, please do take notice.
Parking was $ 20 for one night, and it expired at noon the very next day. So expensive! But we’re from Los Angeles, so you can say we empathize. But overall, it was great not worrying about driving during our stay, and everything we had planned was less than a 5 minute walk from this hotel. There was even a CVS located around the corner, which we went to to buy travel essentials we had forgotten to pack. Super convenient!
Despite the small size, and minor issues, the room was thankfully clean and cozy. Maybe that’s all you need when staying in the Gaslamp district, since surely you’re not there to stay indoors, right?!

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. Let’s start at the beginning:
I had originally reserved four rooms, and several weeks later canceled two of them. Apparently this was never reflected in the reservation, so I was charged for the first two nights of each.
When I tried to resolve it with the staff, not only was I treated disrespectfully, I also was continually ignored. I specifically asked to be called back, but instead my reservations were canceled and I never heard back. I spoke with people at this Comfort Inn six times over the course of a week, and never once was called back like I specifically requested when conversations took place.
Cris, the general manager who could have actually resolved my problem, only canceled the rooms and never once spoke with me despite my frequent and insistent demands for this. There was absolutely no interest in trying to resolve this, or even doing the basic amount of communication with me.
Add that to uncomfortable, loud rooms and terrible wireless Internet, and the fact the room rate was inflated 300% over an average night that wasn’t during Comic-​Con. Seriously, it went from $ 140 to $ 500 a night. Not even the Hilton Bayfront or Omni charge even half that much.
Not only will I never return to this hotel, but I will actively inform anyone looking to conduct business (like myself) or pleasure at this motel to never, ever, ever, ever, EVER stay here. Horrible experience all around. Seriously, run away.

The location is supreme for the Gaslamp district and a few short walking blocks to Petco Park. Surrounded by all kinds of nightlife, restaurants, and bars — including Katsuya and one of the SD’s hottest clubs @Andaz. The price point is lower than all other local competing hotels. Sounds all good, right? Well, not so fast.
The main problem — this feels like a motel, we’re just not used to seeing multiple story versions. I’ve never stayed in such a small room before (think college dorm size). It was «kinda» clean (not fond of the carpet, bedspread, and drapes), and in no way deluxe. I would have been completely embarrassed and disappointed if I had planned a special romantic weekend here. The AC was a small window unit, was loud, and barely helped keep the room cool. In addition, the little fridge was not plugged in and was missing a shelf.
Parking is not included, so figure an extra charge of $ 20/​day which can be paid at the front desk after you’ve checked in. They do serve a continental buffet breakfast, of which, I took coffee and a yoplait, and then went somewhere else to eat.
As it was, I was here to on business and to see a Padres game. So all in all, it fit my needs for price (wasn’t able to expense this trip), and had a strong wifi signal. It’s not inexpensive it’s just less expensive (that’s different isn’t it!), but for the area — if price and location to the Gaslamp are your priorities — this could work for you.
