Emad Guirgus Tadros, MD

With zero notice (and without asking how my suicidal feelings were that day) Dr. Tadros discharged me from the hospital (Mercy) and told me to not come back. Granted, his intention was to suggest I go to Mesa Vista as they are the only hospital in the area that does ECT but he did not once ask me if ECT was helpful. He just assumed it was what I wanted/​needed (even though I had a bad experience)**.
**I am not normally his patient he was substituting for my regular doctor who also works at Mercy meaning he has very little, if any, information about my story other than what I can tell him in ~5 minutes. Even the more reason not to assume.
He also said I am smart and should just read a book. Saying I am smart isn’t so bad (mostly because it’s true) but to suggest to someone who is in a lock down unit at a hospital following several days of suicidal thinking that they should just go home and read a book and even worse to suggest they shouldn’t be there is just plain wrong, even it it’s true you should never say anything to a patient to make them feel unwanted.
Now I feel like if I need to return to a hospital Mercy is no longer an option. Probably not the desired outcome when treating a patient with metal disorders. We have very little doors as it is and to have someone from within the profession who is supposed to be on my side suggest to not come back to a place that could potentially one day save my life? I don’t know how to reconcile this one.
The bottom line on what has been mentioned so far: I have no idea what to think. Perhaps he was truly busy. Perhaps his management was encouraging to «get rid» of patients to make room for more. Likely his intentions were good and either he did not communicate them as well as he could or perhaps I interpreted them wrong. Either way given my vulnerability it should have been clear that in my situation he needed a bit more tactful in his actions/​words.
As far as bedside manner I found it to be somewhat sporadic. My first time with him he seemed to be in a very talkative mood and open to chatting. The next day, quite different. I understand his schedule probably keeps him busy but this should be isolated from the patients. What other field of work do you know of where you can act however you feel based on the circumstances of that day. Try that in retail where you must ALWAYS put up a good face regardless of what you may be dealing with.
This issue is more generic and not pertaining to Dr. Tadros per say but since he has clearly demonstrated the ability to be nice and have a good bedside manner why not try to be more consistent?
Overall I feel like he has the capacity to be a good doctor and seems to be with many patients (given the positive reviews and reading his responses).
Perhaps it’s just me then? I don’t know. All I do know is as a mental health patient there should be no doubts or questions about who is and who is not on my side.

I have been seeing Dr Tadros since the 90’s. I owe him my life. He is a good Dr. and helped me get through the darkest time of my life. If you really need help and are struggling to make that call for help… there is a reason you are reading this review. Do yourself a favor… make the call. There are no coincidences in life. Dr. Tadros is one of God’s angels.

I’ve been seeing Dr Tadros for about a year now and I’ve consistently had a good experience. The staff is very good about getting back to me when I leave a message and they are always super friendly. I like that they are flexible with my rescheduling at times and I can expect a phone call from Dr Tadros if I request it. Dr Tadros is pretty busy seeing pts at his office and the hospital but he will stay late to accommodate his pts if they need to be seen. He seems knowledgable about our topics of discussion and he seems to practice evidence based medicine. I find him easy to talk with and feel much better since I’ve been going there.

Dr. Tadros is an amazing Physician who truly cares about his patients. His treatment methods have helped me feel better than I have in 42 years. He is a brilliant Clinician who gets to the heart of the problem and gets results. He is truly the best. He has changed my life.

I went to Dr. T for a consult, having family problems. He was very nice and asked me many questions and told me that no return was necessary. He spent the last portion of time telling me about his book and the profession of psychiatry in general. That was in June of 2013, I never received any bill; my thought at the time was that the visit did not go too well and benefited no one, (book talk?). Last month I received a rejection of payment from my insurance company, apparently they were recently billed; that insurance was cancelled by the company in January, due to Obama care. Then I received a bill from Dr. D, so I immediately called the office and spoke with Requel, who was nice and took a message for the person that handles the billing (apparently she only works on Thursdays), I told her that I have a question. No one ever returned my call. So I called again on ¹⁰⁄₈; still waiting. If my insurance did not pay due to the bill not being submitted in a timely matter, that should be between the dr. and the insurance. Now I am worried about my credit and no one in Dr T’s office will even speak with me. All I want to do is clear this up! The Dr. and staff seemed very nice, but the practicality of billing is something that should be dealt with.

Problem resolved in a kind and courteous manner. Dr. T telephoned me himself and explained that his billing person that he had relied on for a very long time had left and he was unable to secure someone that was up to his standards, until pretty recently. The new billing person is on top of things and pays great attention.

Stay away at all costs.
Doctor Tadros was horribly impersonal, apparently eager to do nothing more than write prescriptions and hurry people out; I never had a session with him last longer than five minutes. He brushed away all of my concerns, asked few questions, and laughed at me when I asked him about care for my anxiety. He also spoke out against talk therapy when I told him about how it had helped me.
When the antidepressant he gave me caused me to have a suicidal breakdown that led to me doing a 72-​hour stay in the psych ward, I found out he was a doctor on call at the hospital I ended up in. Doctor Tadros never once spoke to me during my hospital stay /​despite coming into the ward at one point!/, and I had to request another psychiatrist to visit me because he would not.
This man just wants to saddle you up with prescriptions and does not care about you well-​being in the least. I’m sorry that I wasted good time and money with him.

Dr. Tadros was kind and compassionate on my first visit. Having been under care of multiple mental health professionals over the years I found him to be kind and caring and he listened.
Dealing with one’s mental illness is very difficult and we come across doctors both good and bad — this one is good… you have to able to take his advice and follow it. And you have to understand that most mental illness takes trial and error to get a fix that works for you individually. It only took me 30 years to learn that one — and I feel like Dr. Tadros will listen and that we can work together to find what will work this round of depression.

Regardless of what other people may say, Dr Tadros has helped me with my depression more than any other doctor I have seen in the last 20 years. And I have seen quite a few doctors. He has sucessfully treated me with medication and the Neurostar transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) device. I can’t say enough good things about his help and the TMS device. It is the first treatment that has reduced my depression.
Dr Tadros is very concerned with my quality of life and always say’s never give up. After all but being abandoned by my last two doctors, he has worked very hard with me to improve my outlook on life. Thank you, Dr Tadros!

My elderly mother was referred to Dr. Tadros for help with issues related to her dementia. She was having difficulty sleeping through the night and bursts of aggression. He prescribed Haldol for her. At our second visit one week later I expressed my concern that the Haldol was sedating her too much. She was basically just sitting in a daze all day long and she was still having difficulty sleeping. He said the problem was her dementia, not the drug and increased her dose. At the third visit, the next week I complained that my mother had become completely incontinent and no longer had the motor skills to walk or feed herself. Her hands shaked as if she had Parkinson’s. He said something to the effect, «well she’s sleeping through the night and isn’t aggressive anymore so the drug worked». That’s the last time we saw him. I took her off the drug and within a week she could walk, feed herself and no longer had the shakes. She never regained control of her bowels again. Subsequent geriatric specialists I took her to said that Haldol is one of the worse drugs you could give someone that age. He may be great for other mental disorders but he has no business treating geriatric patients.

I stumbled upon the reviews for Dr. Tadros while searching for another business and was compelled to add my voice to the other reviews. I think it’s great that so many have had positive experiences with Dr. Tadros. I am not one of them. I found him to be one of THE most arrogant, unfeeling and dismissive Doctors I have ever come across. I first met him in the hospital (a pretty horrible experience to begin with) and then as an Outpatient. My personal experience was one of disappointment and heightened anxiety as I sat across from him and tried to smile my way through his diatribe against talk therapy and anything else he felt like discussing. He does enjoy hearing his own voice. Again, there is an arrogance that is palpable and unsettling. I think his attitude is capable of doing colossal damage to anyone in crisis. To be fair, when I was having trouble finding the right sleep meds, he was very responsive to my calls. His office is pleasant and his Staff is caring and kind.

Dr. Tadros gets right to the heart of the matter. He is efficient, kind, intelligent and caring.
The office has great parking and is in a charming building.

I have been acquainted with Dr. Tadros for a few years now. Dr. Tadros is one of the most ethical, concerned and caring persons in the Mental Health profession. Dr. Tadros has the upmost respect from his collegues at Scripps. This high-​principled physician
has led the fight against corruption in Family Court. He has been a leader for all in order to protect our children from the low-​principled psychologists that use Family Court and our children for financial gain.
He has taken on the unethical pychologists in San Diego in open court.
Dr. Tadros treats the indigent and all in a respectful manner.
The cream has risen to the top.

I wanted to write something positive since I saw the scathing remarks. (I too have extensive personal experience with the mental health field, for many many decades, for myself, friends and family, so I know whereof I speak.)
I accompanied a friend who was having a rough time to this doctor last week, and sat in on the intake, as support and to help him convey his problems to the doctor.
Dr Tadros definitely does have a different ‘intake’ style than most, in that during the first visit he asks the patient a structured series of questions and types the responses. He is very direct and no nonsense, and has strong boundaries on things (told my friend he wouldnt see him unless he quit drinking, for example).
I think this makes sense in that he wants to help the patient as quickly and efficiently as possible, and in the more traditional psychiatric situation, it can take weeks or months to get the core issues as patient and doctor meander all over the map until the real problems emerge. All at the tune of hundreds of dollars and lost time.
Having done personal coaching, this approach of fact finding makes a lot of sense, and it actually serves the patient well.
He was a bit strong in approach bordering on confrontational, but in the case of my pal, this was the right approach. He is strongly in favor of depressives avoiding alcohol and street drugs, and obviously this is good advice.
As far as the office, I don’t know what this woman is talking about. It was in a nice charming older building, not fancy by any means, but no odors or dirt. There are several doctors working out of the building.
I was also impressed when I saw the blood tests that the doctor ordered; the labs he asked for indicated he had a good sense of the ‘whole person’, and screening out for hormonal imbalances and other pathologies that might be creating the distress.
