My son and I fished with Capt Bob today. It was my son’s first time fly casting. I am fortunate to have taken many guided fishing trips and Capt Bob’s ½ day San Diego Bay fishing experience was top notch. He has all the credentials, the best gear in perfect condition, but what really sets him apart is his focus on teaching and encouraging kids to fish and enjoy the outdoors. Even though my son started a little slow, Capt Bob was patient and by noon, my son was outcasting me! That is the mark of an excellent guide!
In addition, we swapped great and funny fishing stories and generally had a blast. We caught over 20 fish and learned a great deal about fishing in the back bay of San Diego.
Capt. Bob is HIGHLY recommended!

My 7 year old son and I joined Captain Bob today for a beautiful day of fishing on SD Bay. Bob was courteous, punctual and very informative. He had many good stories and led us to 20 spotted bay bass (not counting the 10+/- that he pulled in himself). I won’t go into details, but let’s just say that my son out fished me by a lot. Bob provided muffins and soda for us and we fished for about 4.5 of the 5 hours that we were on the water. This ain’t like any party boats where you travel for an hour before you get to start fishing. From the Chula Vista marina, we were fishing in 10 minutes of leaving the dock. Bob had plenty of tackle for us to use and was there to provide instruction whenever it was needed. Most of the fish were in the 11 – 12 inch range and provided a good fight on the light gear that we used. Bob even taught my son how to fly fish! It was a truly memorable day and I would highly recommend En La Mosca Adventures to anyone who lives in SD or who is visiting SD.

UPDATE: July 31, 2011 Just spent another day on the bay with Bob Day (Captain Bob Day, that is) with my ten year old daughter and she killed it out there. Again, Captain Bob put us on fish quickly and my daughter had the best day of fishing, ever. She caught fish left and right, with hook up after hook up, after hook up! Bob also gave her a quick lesson on fly fishing and she caught her first fly rod fish today. If you are wanting to just go fishing, don’t hire Bob. NOW if you wan’t to go CATCHING, better book him sooner than later. Good times, awesome knowledge of San Diego Bay and he is GREAT with kids. Thanks Captain and tight lines!
