Food was great, but Ana was AWESOME!!! Great atmosphere and a great time.

It was more than I expected. Truly a memorable dining experience. The menu is not the typical steakhouse selection. Impeccable service from all. Definitely a great place for a special occasion.

Just wanted to say what a fabulous time Greg and I had having dinner at the Greystone Steakhouse in downtown San Diego. The Sea Bass was phenomenal. The chocolate mousse was flawless. And the cocktails were out of this world. Most of all, our waitstaff, Mr. Alex Teleford, was extremely attentive and took such great care of us all night. He is an extremely talented conversationalist, pleasant and personable. Thank you for making our night one to remember.

Going to a Ruth’s Chris would feel like a McDonald’s after an evening at greystone steakhouse. As a concierge in the San Diego area, I feel as if I should have a keen eye for a quality steakhouse that goes above and beyond the typical chain-style steakhouse experience. And greystone blew away my expectations. Décor(5⁄5) — walking in feels like the entrance to a contemporary art museum, adorned walls and glass art added a new-age touch that felt great. Service(5⁄5) — our waters never reached the halfway point. Our wines were properly aerated, and our classic smoked cocktails were smoked right in front of us! The right amount of pizzaz for the evening. Food(5⁄5) — the buffalo was hands down. The best protein I’ve had in San Diego. Try greystone first for steak and seafood. Ask for Sarah or Josh to accommodate you!

Came here during restaurant week. We had the calamari for appetizer, NY strip, limoncello sponge cake, chocolate mousse cake, truffle fries and buttered corn with bacon. Everything was delicious. The steak was cooked to perfection. My only gripe is that we were only offered bottled or sparkling water and our waiter made it seem that was the only kind of water they offered. So we paid $ 6 for water AND my boyfriend’s old fashioned was $ 16! He said it wasn’t even that good a little pricey for a mediocre drink if you ask me. It wasn’t on their cocktail list but every restaurant should know how to make a good old fashioned especially since it’s a steak house. Overall the food was great and we’d come back but I kind of feel like we were up sold on the drinks because it was restaurant week.

We love this place. My dad and I go here when we go the theatre. I have a special needs son and its not often I get to go out. The staff is amazing and make us feel like family. Sara the manager is so kind and sweet. Our favorite server is Joaana. She remembers us each time even if we don’t get her as our server. Food is spectacular. My favorite item is the heirloom tomato salad«not your usual caprese. The atmosphere is very cozy and inviting and there is a guitarist that serenades you with wonderful music. Thanks to the staff here at Greystone! Can’t wait till the next show to be able to come back!

For the appetizer we had the Boar Sausage(3 of 5) and the Japanese Wagyu(5.5 of 5). Started with Espresso Martinis which were nearly on par but well made. For our entrees we had 21 Day aged filet(4.7 of 5) and the Elk Shank(4 of 5 with the sauce, and 5 of 5 without). We had the Parmesan truffle fries(2 of 5 mostly Parmesan and the fries were average at their base) and the asparagus(2.5 of 5, predictable but decent. Could have been prepared better, were a bit soggy to be honest). We followed it up with the Crème Brûlée Cheescake(4.5 of 5) and the Chocolate Gelato(3.5 of 5). We had a couple other drinks but the more remarkable one was the Moet Cosmopolitan. P. S. Unrelated but notable was the beautiful server we had. Her name is Stephanie and she made the experience more delightful.

Super friendly service from the moment we walked through the door, attention to detail in this independently owned steakhouse in the heart of the Gaslamp! Sara specifically made our night so special with her expertise, amazing taste and hospitality. Amazingly delicious food, the appetizers were great be sure to get the short rib tacos and the farm to table salads were so delicious! The wagyu steak was to die for, same with the buffalo filet sitting atop the truffle risotto cake. The brussels sprouts side was also very good. Ahi stack is local, fresh and incredible and has three types of caviar! Such a large variety of wines and drinks, definitely come here if you’re looking for a nice dinner out in downtown San Diego!!!

Greystone Steakhouse never ceases to amaze us! We are always approached with the friendliest staff and great food. Special thanks to Cannon, we enjoyed ourselves last night! We received the short rib tacos,(it was taco Tuesday!!!). These were amazing, along with the fried Calamari. My boyfriend ate every last bit of it!

********************** 1467 ********************* Yes, it took me almost two months to write this review because I’ve been traveling non-stop since Thanksgiving 2015. Greystone Steakhouse is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in San Diego. One of the reason, I decided to come here because 1 of my favorite managers in SD, I met at Osetra The Fishouse, Sara, she is now the GM here. I couldn’t wait to come. She’s the best in San Diego. Her gracious smile and the way she went extra mile for her guests. I knew my parents and relatives would totally in for a real treat. I come here for good food, well priced point, and excellent service. Love the patio on a nice summer evening such a perfect spot for people watching in this prime spot of the Gaslamp District. I also love the vibrant bar where you can enjoy live music on the weekend, perfect for hanging out with your friends before hitting the town. However, I enjoy the dining room upstairs the most, you got to see the wine cage, and overlook the bar, you got the best view of all. I took my parents and relatives here on Thanksgiving night for dinner. Of course, it’s a holiday, they was packed. They offered the special menu as well as a la carte. We ordered just about every dish on the menu, all was very good and some dishes my parents couldn’t stop praise about. — Big Eye Tuna Tartare — Shrimp Cocktail — they were gigantic — Hudson Valley Foie Gras — Wild Boar Sausage was delicious, a must try for meat lover! — Roasted Beet Salad — Warm Veal Tongue, I personally enjoyed this very much. — Calamari, love the sauce, generous portion, a perfect dish to share, my nieces loved this appetizer. — Lobster Spaghetti — this was the star of the dinner — you got to see my photo below, pasta cooked Al Dente to perfection, and that lobster was fresh, tasty. This is a big order. My dad got the biggest smile on his face. — USDA Prime 18OZ bone in rib eye, add on some Umbria Truffle topping, was my dish of the night. — Wagyu Miyazaki Prefecture A9 — melt in your mouth goodness gracious love. — Prime Filet & Foie Gras, add Umbria Truffle topping, why not? You work so hard all week, indulge a little. — Caviar, I love their traditional service, pop a bottle of Cristal Louis Roederer, match made in heaven. Don’t forget the side dishes here, we ordered some as appetizers :-) The Lobster Mac & Cheese was so good. The Garlic Yukon Potato Purée was delish. Lumb Crab & Bernaise Asparagus was a hit with our family too. Save room for desserts as well because you do need that sugar to wake you up after that big juicy steak dinner. The wine list was very nice, diverse, and reasonable price. Sommelier Josh can surely help you to navigate the menu. Josh also made my parents feel so welcomed. Alex the server is also a star here too. Two to three hours later, we lost track of time. My parents and relatives were laughing and having a great time. I couldn’t ask for a better evening on this Thanksgiving night. A night like this I’m thankful for my family and how blessed I am. And this Thanksgiving night wouldn’t be so much laughter, joy, and happiness it wasn’t for Sara, the new GM at Greystone Steakhouse. I’m thankful for the good people in this hospitality business like you, Sara. My parents will come back again soon.

We had the perfect dinner at Greystone during Restaurant Week. The evening started with exceptional service, a pleasant atmosphere, and a very exciting(and difficult to choose from) 3 course meal. There was also an extensive drink list, and including wine flights! Naturally I chose one of those. The meal started with delicious bread and butter(not all bread/butter is worth the calories, but it is at Greystone). I picked the oysters for my appetizer(they were very fresh) and buffalo tenderloin for my entrée. That’s right, buffalo tenderloin! It was delicious, very tender, and tasted just like steak(bet you thought I was going to say chicken!). It was paired with a truffle risotto cake and a pear glaze, and the whole thing was a flavor explosion! This dish ranks amongst my favorite ever. My bf got the filet, and was also very happy with his meal. His octopus was a bit tough for the liking, but still decent. Our dessert was the crème brûlée cheesecake, which was good but i prefer cheesecakes a little tangier and lighter(I know, I’m being nit picky). All in all, it was an excellent meal and if I find myself in SD I will definitely come back.

I came here to celebrate a friends birthday. My husband and I arrived before my friend and her husband, so we grabbed a drink at the bar. I ordered the Cranberry sage prosecco, it was perfect, not too sweet. Once the birthday girl arrived, we were seated downstairs in a cozy booth/chair combo. It’s a smart configuration for tables that want more privacy. They also had open seating in the middle of the lower level and upstairs, a private dining room, and outside seating. Greystone does a good job at offering several seating options to enjoy their menu. I brought my girlfriend’s favorite Napa wines to share. They do have a $ 25 corkage fee which I gladly paid so she can enjoy her favorite on her birthday. The waiter quickly put the white wine on ice and kept our glasses full the entire dinner. We just couldn’t decide on one option; the menu looked that good. The four of us decided to share to get most out of our experience. We started with the shrimp cocktail. Cute presentation in shot glasses and good quality shrimp. However, the«spicy horseradish bloody mary cocktail sauce» was a letdown. It was bland, not at all spicy, for such a bold description. My husband and I split the beet salad next. I didn’t get a picture of the salad because we were deep in conversation at the time. However, It should be renamed the arugula salad as it has very little of anything else. I had two small slices of beets and a little sprinkle of goat cheese. I don’t need a lot by any means, but I do expect a little more based on the description of the salad, it’s a beet salad after all. The other couple ordered the wedge salad, also nothing special. The kitchen was so nice to have the salad split for us before bringing it to the table. For the main course, we ordered the Colorado lamb ravioli and 44oz porterhouse. The Colorado lamb ravioli was amazing. Tasted like fresh pasta and so well executed. I really enjoyed it. However, steak is their thing. The 44oz porterhouse was excellent and plenty to share for the 4 of us. The MP was $ 110. It was perfectly cooked to medium rare. The chef expertly sliced it in the back, so it was easy to share. We all loved the porterhouse and would highly recommend giving it a try. We also ordered the lobster, asparagus, wild mushrooms, and garlic potato purée for sides. The first thing I noticed were the size of the sides. We each got one tablespoon of potatoes, and they were gone. In my opinion, the sides were one serving and not shareable. Compared to what I consider their upscale steakhouse competition, they really are missing the mark here. As an upscale restaurant, don’t get cheap with the cheap stuff. If the sides are meant for individuals, instead of sharing, it would be nice if they would call that out somehow. Or train their waitstaff to educate us, so we know the side is hardley shareable. The potatoes were bland mashed potato’s; the fancy description did nothing for the taste. I’m not even sure if they had garlic in them. The asparagus were a bit too fat and a little tough for me. Unfortunately, the lobster was overcooked the first time, so the waitress was kind enough to offer to bring us another. The second one was also overcooked. The meal was finished at this point, so we didn’t bother having them make another attempt or call it out to our waitress. Clearly steak is their forte, skip the seafood. The execution on the lobster was well below average for above average prices. I almost ordered the seabass; I am glad I didn’t. The service was on point. We had two waitstaff serving us. They both did an excellent job of paying attention and being proactive. The valet kept our car out in front of the restaurant making leaving quick and easy. Overall, if you are looking for a great steak and a good cocktail, this is a place to check out.

My daughter was in town and I decided to try Greystone again. We had an incredible experience. My daughter has been vegetarian for some time now, but for her new years resolution she stepped it up to Vegan. On the surface Greystone may not have been the best choice, but that could not be further from the truth. The team at Greystone helped her build a selection of amazing Vegan-friendly dishes and went out of their way to make sure she was comfortable. I had the Wagyu and it was amazing, our dishes were also perfectly timed between small bites and our main course. The food was the highlight, but the service was just as good. We ate inside, the atmosphere is elegant but modern. It’s lively inside yet you can easily hold a conversation without any problem. I’m really glad I was able to try Greystone again, as I would have missed out on a gem downtown for special occasions or visitors in from out of town. I will definitely be adding Greystone to our list of restaurants we need to visit often, and you should too.

It was anniversary night combined parents night out. My husband wanted to get a taste of Japanese wagyu beef. This spot had 3 different kinds. Japanese, US and Australia. Anna was our server. She was awesome!!! All of her suggestions were on point. We got the Japanese wagyu as an appetizer so that everyone can have a taste. It was the best beef ever! We now know what makes it a big deal. Anna also suggested the lobster Mac. It was so tasty and cheesy and creamy. I just wished the lobster was chopped up into the macaroni. We also shared it. A big must is also the Greystone salad! The croutons are infused with black truffle! She had me at black truffle. With that my husband had the Chilean sea bass and I had the lamb chops! Amazing!!! We were pretty full from the amazing food but Anna surprised us with a chocolate mousse like dessert with a candle. Yay! It was an great dinner, great service and if you valet you car up front they validate it. Schweet! Can’t wait to come back even just for the salad alone for like lunch! Ps I checked in and we got a free fried calamari appetizer! It was super good! Dinner comer with hot fresh bread and herb butter. :)

This was one of the worst dinners I have had for the price. I had the small plate appetizer, wedge salad, and 8oz filet. The plate appetizer was ok no major complaints. The wedge salad had yellowed lettuce indicating old. Something unacceptable for the price. The filet was truly awful. It was ordered medium and it came out to be the driest steak ever. This was entirely unacceptable. Finally I had asparagus that half was wilted once again something more like a drive through restaurant. I am not being a snob here I am just stating the fact that my dinner was extremely bad. I will admit maybe I was just unlucky but for the price you should be guaranteed. I did not complain but I did get the impression they would have tried to fix but I was with a group.

I had my Pretty Woman(the movie) moment the other night at the Gaslamp. I guess that could totally be taken the wrong way. I mean Pretty Woman in the sense that you’re told it’s a surprise dinner with a surprise event afterwards. I knew the restaurant was somewhere downtown but that was about it. I was told I had never mentioned this restaurant nor has it ever been written about it on my food blog. So I was really surprised when we arrived at Greystone Steakhouse in the Gaslamp as 1) the restaurant was beautiful and 2) I totally mentioned about this place to him some weeks ago. I was in awe at the grandeur of Greystone Steakhouse. I had passed by this steakhouse MANY times in the past but never thought twice about them. We had an early reservation so it was quiet and empty when we arrived. We were seated on the top floor where there’s a pretty fireplace(already reserved darn it) and a view of the bottom two floors . I’m not sure if the have an extensive craft beer list as friend ordered drinks for us that night. I really enjoyed the glass of red(cabernet?) that he and Josh, our server, picked out that evening. Josh is also a sommelier so you know your wine selection will be in good hands. The soft focaccia type bread, served complimentary to the table, tasted freshly made. The butter was sweetened with honey and had a bit of rosemary in it I think. We ordered: * Precursor before our appetizer: we ordered the steak tartare but was given the ahi tuna tartare instead. The lighting was so dim we couldn’t tell. We took a bite, knew right away it wasn’t beef tartare, so stopped eating it. Our server came by a few minutes later and we explained the error. He examined the plate, apologized, and took away the tuna. Sad part was that we really enjoyed the bite that we had and would have totally not minded if he left the appetizer on the table. * PRIMEFILETTARTARE The raw beef tartare looked like it was prepared ahead of time as the top layer of beef was darker than the layers beneath it. The tartare tasted nice and beefy. It paired well with the pecorino shavings and the tart capers. The three toasted crostinis weren’t enough so friend decided to try the tartare with the bread on our table. CHILEANSEABASS It was a pretty presentation with the beautiful microgreens on top of the sea bass. The Chilean sea bass was prepared nicely and tasted melt-in-your-mouth luscious. 20OZBONE-INRIBEYE I’m not sure if friend ordered the USDA Prime or the Angus 21 day aged rib eye. The rib eye was prepared medium rare and seasoned properly. Friend said you know it’s an excellent steak when even the gristle tastes great(not sure if he was joking or not). SAUTEEDWILDMUSHROOMS The wild mushrooms were served in a little cast iron skillet. The mushrooms tasted wonderfully earthy and had just the right amount of salt/pepper seasoning. LUMPCRAB&BERNAISEASPARAGUS This side dish wasn’t a hit for us. The lump crab tasted canned and the asparagus were cooked too long. Service here at Greystone Steakhouse was immaculate. Josh was hospitable, prompt without being intrusive, and always had a smile on his face. The support staff was equally amazing with water constantly being refilled and as ‘excuse the reach’ with each refill/cleaning of table. They truly made the surprise date night even more memorable for me. The food wasn’t the most memorable factor for me that evening but I would absolutely come back to try out more items. The bar area has this(marble?) bar table that exuded this warm comforting orange light that I could see myself enjoying another glass of red wine with friends. I hope to return to try out their Happy hour that also features $ 1 oysters. The restaurant was busy by the time we left so it’s great to see Greystone doing well in the Gaslamp.

Winter chills night Cold rain washes the streets clean Steak warms the body. Night was cold and rain was starting. Bright lights beckon me to enter. It’s warm inside. Festive holiday atmosphere. Wild boar sausage has rich gamey flavor. Texture is a bit rough. Very tasty. Smoked chicken is tender, juicy, and has a nice smoky flavor. New York strip steak dry-aged 21 days marinated in Himalayan salt and in chimicuri sauce tempts me with it’s savory aroma. Was tender and juicy. Mix of beef, salt, chimicuri sauce flavors was delicious. Beef short rib taco featured really tender beef with a light but delicious beefy flavor. Flavor of the flour tortilla was too strong and distracted from the flavor of the short rib. After I had my fill of delicious meats it was back outside to the wintery night. Friendly General Manager greeted and wished her guests a good night.

4.25 stars. A very good steakhouse with excellent service. I started off with the seared fois gras. I am usually overjoyed to see this on a menu and always order it when I do. In this instance, I found it to be only fair. This turned out to be the only disappointment of the night and it wasn’t bad; just not great. The Wildboar sausage was actually better and I would definitely get that again. The steaks here are very good and I did go with a USDA prime filet. I was totally satisfied with my choice. I ended up topping my steak with black truffle shavings and white truffle oil. It was good, but honestly, I would go with a cognac peppercorn or a nice Bearnaise sauce next time. Our waiter went above and beyond to make us feel at home and provide attentive service. I would love to try this place again sometime and sample more of the menu.

As mentioned in my previous review, I would return to give Greystone Steakhouse another try and this time I’m glad I did as my dining experience was a great one. Service as like my previous visit was superb. Top notch and I’m glad that William helped us. He was knowledgeable and yet very friendly and down to earth. Glad to also see our previous waiter Giovanni who remembered Tupac and I and he greeted us as well. As I sat waiting for our drinks and appetizers, I watched how the servers were with the patrons. Sara, the General Manager, walked up to tables to greet the customers to make sure everything was good. She is such an asset to Greystone. Her personality and professional image made me feel welcomed. This was my second time meeting her and I’m glad she remembered Tupac and I and exactly where we sat on our previous vist. What great memory. Although our first visit was not up to par, this visit made up for it. It must’ve been an off night but this time around the dishes we ordered hit the spot. We ordered 2 of the same dishes from my last visit. The rib eye and garlic mash. The rib eye was so soft, tender, flavorful and charred on the outside as how I usually like it and the mash was delicious. Other dishes we tried: Wagyu Beef STRAWBERRY — HEIRLOOMTOMATOES PORKBELLY Asparagus So if you like Pork Belly like I do, YOUMUSTHAVEIT! Delicious! One of my favorite dishes. Overall, the food was delicious and bursting with different flavors in my mouth. The Wagyu Beef was soft and buttery and I’m glad I got to try these dishes. I will highly recommend this great steakhouse located in the heart of downtown gaslamp. Ask for Sara and introduce yourself to her. She’s a sweetheart! Let her know you read my review. Thank you again Sara and Staff of Greystone for a memorable dinning experience. I will return as much as I can and soon to be a regular.
