This coffee place is a gem! We will drive out of our way whenever visiting San Diego just for a cup of coffee.

Really cool little coffee shop on Goldfinch and Washington. They rotate roasters but usually go with James Coffee or Dark Horse but, this time, it was a roaster out of SF. De La Paz I believe. I had the Dandy today. It’s an espresso, milk, lavender syrup and honey drink. I’ll try it one more time to see if 4⁄5 star review sticks or goes up. Cute place. Good coffee. Very competitive location though and the recipe for the drink I had seemed to be more lavender and milk, than coffee and honey. Just my opinion.

One of my Facebook friends checked in at this place and it looked really cute. I decided to make a trip down here for coffee and a little walk this morning. The service was great and they were super friendly. I can’t handle a lot of caffeine so I asked for the decaf and they talked to me about the different sizes and made a great recommendation so that my coffee wasn’t too milky. They were right on The Mark with the recommendation and my drink was perfect! I would absolutely recommend this place. They are right on Goldfinch at the corner of Washington Avenue so it’s easily accessible. They do have some little tables outside if you want to drink your espresso there or you can sit inside as well. I will definitely be back to try the lavender lemonade and will be bringing my friends!

Deliciously satisfying I had the Churro Whoopi Pie and a vanilla bean latte both were fantastic in flavor and presentation I’ll be sure to revisit !

For being #2 on Unilocal,I wasn’t impressed at all. They serve dark horse and James coffee so that’s good, but if I wanted James coffee or dark horse, I’d go to those shops.

You know it’s good when you check in twice in 24 hours. Heartwork is a breath of fresh air in an area I thought would be overrun with Starbucks and the like since the area is fairly quiet and residential. As an SF resident, I appreciate the art of good coffee. Good pour overs are hard to do, especially since they’re so time consuming. The two pour overs I had from Heartwork was a Columbian coffee from Dark Horse beans and a Honduras coffee from James Coffee beans were amazing and inspired me to buy a bag to take home with me. I love this little spot — try the scones too, they’re great too!

I’ve had my eye on this neighborhood shop for some time as a friend lives nearby. I was excited for the opportunity to finally make a stop in over the weekend. The little shop itself is super cute; however I was a little turned off by the tiny clipboard menu. I found it a little difficult to peruse the menu with others in line wanting to take a glance as well. Didn’t seem practical. Also, as my eyes scanned the page I felt like I saw more tea options than coffee options. I was hoping to see more creative coffee concoctions based on the«Coffee Bar» declaration in their name. Regardless, I was committed to try something at this place. I asked the guy at the counter for a recommendation and described to him that I was not in to overly sweet drinks, I liked tasting the actual coffee. Based on his suggestion, I ordered an iced cinnamon/honey latte and my friend ordered the drink with lavender syrup in it. Our drinks came out in good time and my friends hot drink looked great. While mine tasted good, it also tasted like cinnamon honey milk with zero coffee. I reluctantly turned back and explained the taste to the barista. She was extremely kind and offered to add another 2 shots to it. After the addition, it tasted very good. My overall experience was A-OK. If I find my way back I’ve learned my lesson and will most likely order a pour over or something to that effect. The service was great.

Coffee shop for coffee lovers. Limited menu of carefully curated coffees. Limited seating inside, so not the best option for a coffee date, but delicious to go. Give the cold brew a try! All the taste of one of their pour over coffees, with less acidity and no bitterness. Friendly staff :-)

What a fun local coffee and tea shop! Interesting concept as it seems that at least the baked goods and tea are from local places around San Diego and not made/developed in house. Tea Gallerie is one of my favorite loose leaf tea stores, and they carry their top selling tea’s. It’s actually a super smart idea and good for other local businesses! My friend enjoyed her coffee, and I enjoyed my Goldfinch tea. The baked goods were also yummy, and they had a great selection. If you’re not vegan I’d say don’t hold high hopes for the vegan ones tasting as good as the non-vegan ones(I know this is obvious now that I say it). Overall a fun relaxing experience… will come back.

I liked the décor and the simple menu. As for their coffee, I ordered the cold brew and it was… okay. It tasted almost sour, I want to say? Maybe it was a bad batch? I don’t know what it was, but I didn’t enjoy it. It’s unfortunate because I really wanted to like the place because the staff was friendly. I may be back to try their lattes and see if my opinion changes.

Unilocaled this looking for a different coffee spot. It’s a quaint and small coffee bar. The baristas were friendly and the coffee was strong and good. I dig the coffee art they make in your espresso. I had the cinnamon and honey 12 ounce drink with a cookie. Absolutely delicious and a great pick me up for the morning. A must try spot in SD. They also had some neat skateboard art on the walls here.

Maybe it was built up anticipation, but I didn’t feel this coffee shop fully delivered on the coffee. I get my haircut at a business in the area, and I always wanted to grab a mocha or latte on my way out. This spot was always under construction, so maybe I had unrealistically high hopes for it(who knows). The coffee itself had an interesting taste. In fact, my mocha was smooth, but it tasted more like a berry mocha. I’m not sure what type of beans they use, but I promise my mocha tasted a little fruity. I didn’t really like the chocolate they used, especially since it was very grainy. Each sip I took, I felt little grains of chocolate, and I suspect it’s because the drink itself was not very hot. It was warm at best. The service was great, and I wish I had enjoyed the mocha more. I will definitely come in to try their espresso with breve(my new favorite thing) and maybe(hopefully!!) my review will change!

Coffee: 2⁄5 –I guess my boyfriend and I are not the biggest coffee drinkers because we did not enjoy our coffee. We are from out of state so once we landed at the SD airport in the morning, we needed a quick coffee fix before starting our day so I Unilocaled a nearby place with good reviews. I saw this place had 5 stars(!!) which is rare so I thought, «It MUST be good!» To my dismay, the coffee was way too bitter for us, even after we added milk and sugar. I wish I had taken a picture of their menu because I have come back from my weekend long stay in San Diego and have already forgotten the name of the drink we ordered. I just remember it was made with Ethiopian coffee beans. I didn’t want to waste the coffee but I couldn’t stand to taste it anymore so I tossed it after drinking at least half. Paid almost $ 5 for wasted coffee :( Service: 5⁄5 –So I did a little research and found out the workers are all couples! From what I found out, there are 3 couples and they are all married to each other. That’s just adorable and fun :) –The worker who took our order seemed very knowledgable on their coffee. We asked for what is sweet(you coffee connoisseur, do not judge! HA) and he suggested that the drips are rich in flavor more like a wine tasting coffee. Although it was not our cup of coffee, I could see how coffee lovers would find that kind of taste to be what they are looking for in a cup. Atmosphere: 4⁄5 –The inside is nice and cute! I saw a couple people studying here and I, too, enjoying studying in this kind of environment. –The table next to us was planning out some kind of business plan. I can imagine lots of different people meet here with lots of different purposes. –The downside to this place is that it is quite small and not too much seating. I came with a group of 4 people and we waited 10 minutes before a big enough table opened up for us to sit down. Keep in mind we had all our luggage too. Last thoughts: –I apologize for my poor rating. It just wasn’t my taste. This is a 5 star coffee bar for those with the right taste I’m sure.

Driving down the street this spot maybe easy to miss, but its a coffee bar that shouldn’t be ignored. Flush with a grey painted exterior, large windows, and trendy furniture, this establishment smells of exquisite coffee and fine baked goods. I had a wonderful experience myself at Heartwork Coffee Bar! the baristas are very knowledgeable in the art of the bean, giving you a variety of choices to satisfy your pallet. Some of the beans used are local, such as dark horse coffee roasters! which was pleasant to see since I enjoy their coffee so much. I ordered a slow drip Ethiopa shayr ayra coffee from ladies and gentlemen coffee roasters with a baby strawberry donut, adorable right? The donut was great! even at 4pm in the evening. The coffee was smooth and full bodied with small hints of sweetness. Overall the experience was very pleasurable! I wouldn’t advise this as a study spot however, since there aren’t really many outlets and the tables are quite small. However, for a sit down and chat with a friend over a brew with a treat, well that’s a whole different tale. Be sure to stop in for a cup coffee! this is a cup a java you shan’t miss! :)

I visited this coffee shop twice this weekend! Once with my boyfriend who looked this place up to try with me, and once on my way back home to Los Angeles as I needed a pick me up. Both times I ordered a hot latte with honey and cinnamon, which was delicious! Both of us really enjoyed the latte. They have a small box which is full of pastries which they bake in the morning, so if you would like one or like a bigger selection, come early. They also have many loose leaf teas to try if you are not feeling a cup of coffee. There is some meter parking available, but both times I was able to find street parking in the residential area for free.

Good stuff! These guys were informative(can you say ‘coffee education’?), helpful AND nice to my dog! Technically not my dog, but I was dog sitting and Cecco, the dog, was ecstatic to be #1 let in #2 loved in by the staff. I had a cold brew with chocolate and almond milk. Perfect for a hot day and long walk back home. It almost felt like coffee for the refined pallet. Can’t explain why, just something ‘clean’ about the taste. I will be back!

Perfection! Per usual, I’m strolling around SD seeking new coffee shops that are local and awesome. After having brunch nearby I was ecstatic to stumble upon Heartwork. Their menu is simple but don’t be afraid to ask the cashier what they can do for you. I was an eager beaver when it came to ordering but I went straight to the shop tees. They had a wide variety, stylish options and they had my size! I like my coffee shop tees(I collect, you know) to be casual but not too fitted. I didn’t even ask how much, I just went with it. Another impulse buy to add to my books. I had an iced vanilla latte. They only offer whole or almond milk– please make note of that! I went with whole because I didn’t want the almond to clash with the vanilla. SUPERTASTY! No mistakes made, perfect combo! The vanilla wasn’t over powering and it had to be one of the best iced vanilla lattes to date. Thanks for getting my heart to work! It was exactly what I needed post brunch!

I love a great coffee shop and this one put a huge smile on this gents face. Stopping in on a early Saturday morning with an armful of work to get down, I was tremendously eager to get my hands on a rich Americano. In addition to the two shot espresso, I got my hands on a orange and cranberry scone from Bread and Cie, both the espresso and scone cost $ 5( ). The espresso was terrific and provided a great smooth and rich flavor with the kick I needed to help me get my work completed. The beans were from Dark Horse Roasters. The scone was surprisingly quite good. It had a very good sugar crust with sugar grain coat. It had a firm but moist with several pieces of dried cranberries and a good orange flavor and scent( ). I am glad they carry these. The people who work here are great. They were very knowledgeable about the trade, friendly, and provided great service. They offer free Wi-Fi and some comfortable seating inside, all be it limited, outside as well.

For the coffee purist. I’m a huge fan on minimalism and quality and that’s exactly what they’re doing here. Sleek look and feel with a no nonsense menu. The coffee here is superb. They know exactly what they’re doing and I hope many other coffee shops come here and take notes. Throw away your double chocolate chip crème frappuccino blended crème bullsh*t, and come experience a real cup of coffee. Best cup of coffee I’ve had in SD to date.
