I went here for several years for major and minor repairs. Got good service and price. Then, Tai started getting greedy and fixing things that didn’t need it and his prices went up. Then. I went in there for an oil change. I had him order the filter in advance because it is a rare item. Got to the shop and he had ordered the wrong filter. I sat there for FOUR HOURS waiting for him to get the correct filter and change the oil After FOUR HOURS, my vehicle was ready. I asked the female working there for a break on the price since I waited for FOUR HOURS. She looked at me as if I’d insulted her mother. I guess MONEY is more important to her and Tai then loyalty is. Haven’t been back since.

Tai is the man! I have b een seeing him for years. His staff always does a great job and they are really honest with their services. They also get stuff done in a timely manner.

For 3 years, I have been taking a 1998 Chevy truck to various mechanics in San Diego hoping to find a short in the electrical system that caused the truck to end up each day with a dead battery. All of them are really good, honest people, and terrific mechanics. BUT none of them stayed with the problem until I took the truck to Tai. Each time, it was the battery or the regulator, or the carburetor or something new and different.
Hi-​Tech took it in, diagnosed what they thought was the problem, and returned the truck to me. But the problem continued. I left the old workhorse with Tai, and FINALLY, AFTER 3 YEARS OF misery, the electrical problem was solved.
Honest, thorough, diligent, and extremely fair and reasonably priced. THIS IS A TERRIFIC PLACED AND PERSON (S) TO DO BUSINESS WITH.
You can’t go wrong with this business.

Excellent auto repair place-​Tai, the owner is an honest guy and does not recommend unnecessary work. In fact, he told me once that I could change the air filter myself and save some money. He also told me that I could wait with changing the transmission fluid as it still looked good on his inspection. Their charges are also quite reasonable and work is being performed promptly.

This place was recommended to me by a friend after I went to pep boys and got an outrageous quote for new break pads. Not only were they decently priced it only took them a few hours! I will definitely be bringing my car back here and would recommend to others! Plus they have comfy waiting room couches and everyone is genuinely nice.
Ps. It’s a little hard to find. Once you see the address just keep heading towards the back and you’ll see it.

Been bringing cars here for everything from pre-​purchase inspections to full on rebuilds. They do anything and are very honest and helpful. Thai will tell you if your vehicle needs something done and, more importantly, what DOESN’T need to be done. Very rare for a mechanic.
If your car needs anything I wouldn’t hesitate to stop by or call and set up an appointment. He’s never led me astray and all the cars that I have had him inspect before buying have turned out to be low maintenance and reliable. Recently I purchased a 2004 Toyota Rav4 and had him take a look at it before we drove from San Diego to Colorado. Zero problems, car ran like a champ all the way there. That’s how much I trust this shop.

I never thought I’d ever give a mechanic 5 stars! My check engine light was on for over a year and three mechanics couldn’t figure out the problem. The first problem finally caused a bigger problem and I was referred here. They figured out the problem in less than three hours and fixed it. Cheap! I’ve already referred another friend here & she was thrilled with the service & cost as well. I’ll NEVER take my car anywhere else.

Ran onto a curb and sliced up my oil pan. Called around and got a referral from some friends to take it here. By the time I got it towed to Hi-​Tech Auto, it was late on a Saturday afternoon, when everyone else was either closed or too busy. Thai was able to get the oil pan replaced for me in a few hours time and the bill was reasonable. Highly recommended given the situation they bailed me out of.

My family has been bringing our cars to Hi-​Tech Auto for years; they’ve fixed everything from our Volvo sedan to a half dozen Toyotas. I live pretty far from San Diego now, but after my last trip to Subaru service and being hit up for thousands and thousands in supposedly «critical» and costly repairs (for a nearly ten year old car), we brought it in to Hi-​Tech where Tai and his team diagnosed and fixed the issues very quickly. They charged us extremely reasonable rates for parts and labor that were no where near the insane amounts being quoted by the dealer service center.

I love this place! Small family owned auto shop. Tai who is the owner of the business is a very nice and honest man. I’ve been a regular customer for 8 yrs now, and I have been recommending this place to my relatives and friends. Nothing but praises to their quality of work.
I do my oil changes in dealership because this place is kind of far from where I live, but everytime those hungry money dealership people recommend some work done in my car, I have them specify what type of work it is and the price it will cost me. After that, I end up bringing my car to Tai to have him check it out. Most of the time, the recommended work done from dealership is not really needed, or the dealership price is 25−50% more compare to Tai’s pricing.
If it is your first time in this place, I suggest for you to look for Tai. In this case you can start to build a good relationship with the owner.
If you’re leaving your car for a repair, I suggest of having one of your friends to pick you up to kill sometime. Their waiting area is not that great. Oh well, after all, it is an auto shop and not a hotel lobby right?!

I have used Hi Tech Auto for almost 10 years now. They do excellent work, are well run and Tai is completely knowledgable and explains simply and directly. He will even show you what’s wrong so you can see with your own eyes. They are also the fastest shop I have ever been to. I went in to replace an alternator with no prior notice and got my alternator and water pump replaced in a little more than 2 hours. I give my highest recommendation for their services and pricing. You can shop around but will not find a better combo of pricing and service anywhere.

I have been taking my cars to Hi-​tech for over 15 years. They are always excellent. They are fast, fair, and honest, and will not rip you off. One time when my dad was in town, he ran over something on the highway, which bent something under the car, creating quite a noise. We called and brought it to Hi-​tech. Tai jacked up the car, located the problem, and fixed it for free! Usually, Hi-​tech isn’t free, but they are quite cheap!

Hi Tech Auto is a Great Place to get your car checked or repair ! The Manager there Mr Tai Dong is very helpful and knowledgeable he allways gets things done and Mrs Dong is helpful also !! It is Located near Balboa and I am allways happy with the service they provide !! Overall 5 Stars and here is a Tech shop you can Trust !!

Been going to this auto mechanic for my entire driving life. Seen every car I’ve owned since I was 16. I tried a different mechanic one time last year to do a friend a favor and felt like I got ripped off. Never trying another one again. Hi Tech’s the way to go.

I think this place is the hidden gem of Kearney Mesa. Situated right next to 94^th Aero Squadron, it is located in an industrial complex, but don’t be scared! These guys are honest and are serious about FIXING your car and NOT about trying to sell you stuff left and right! I did make an appointment the 2^nd time here because they are busy (but even as a walk-​in they accommodated my oil change!) and their turnaround time is so fast, even if you have to wait, it’s not that long!

This place was great! I had a coolant leak and was frantically searching for a place to repair it. On a late Friday afternoon, no one was available. Not even my dealer. Thanks to Unilocal and all the great reviews, I took my baby (a WRX) to get checked out bright and early on Saturday. Thankfully, they were able to repair the cracked pipe for less than $ 100. The owner was very friendly and the price was very reasonable. Definitely recommend this mechanic!

Hi-​Tech was absolutely fabulous in getting my car fixed promptly and without breaking the bank. Tai and his crew are totally professional and honest, and break down everything for you in terms of what you should get done (as in, eventually) and no really what you SHOULD GET DONE (as in, yesterday). I know 0 about cars so he even brought out a part and showed me exactly what had happened to my car and how he was going to fix it in very simple and easy to understand language. I’m not sure if Tai was the *absolute* cheapest but really, I’d rather pay a fraction more to have peace of mind and not be talked down to just for being a female who is a complete car repair novice.
since I’ve visited Hi-​Tech about 8 months ago my car’s been running like a champ with no problems at all. I definitely plan to go back (to get working on that «you should get this done eventually» list). I highly recommend!
