Not exactly Horton Plaza but I wanted to write about some of the Christmas trees in downtown building lobbies I’ve run across. Coworker and I actually went out in the rain this afternoon to get a little fresh air and started walking along B street between 4th and 7th. As we passed by some of the larger office buildings, we popped in to check out their lobby Christmas trees. Once we really started looking at them, it was kind of fun. Several of them were so dry, we thought they might self-conbust as any moment. The tree at 501 B Street is decorated nicely, although it feels like it was done by a staging company. Decorated better, but still staged, is the tree at 530 B Street. Also, it is nice and fresh and really has a fresh piney scent. For a comfortable, fresh, homey tree, we both recommend the tree in City Hall lobby at 202 C Street.

UNDERWHELMED Is there a stronger word to use? I couldn’t find anything in the thesauras online. When my friend Spencer W mentioned checking out the Christmas Tree lighting over at Horton Plaza, I immediately conjured up images of a gigantic tree a la Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Extravaganza… More like Bunkefeller Center. The tree was maybe 15 feet high and notably unspectacular. When they finally kicked in the«snow», it turned out to be only musty fizzed out soap bubbles. In the cramped space, it was extremely crowded and was one of the rare times I worried about being pick-pocketed. In a twilight zone aside, there seemed to be a eerily high number of morbidly obese and unaware spectators(nothing against them… I am no fitness model myself) in the crowds. I only noticed this because I was forced to slime myself into the side of the building when they decided they HAD to get past me IMMEDIATELY… just strange. And so… drrrrrrrummmm rollllll please… HORTONPLAZA Christmas Tree Lighting, in honor of the one star atop your paltry tree… you get my first one star rating! And now for my haiku: I stand underwhelmed Without motivation to Finish this hai–
