Meh. Over priced and under portioned relatively bland Indian food. I had the chicken tikka masala. The sauce was pretty good if a bit oily. They beef it up with a large portion of rice and tasty naan but the muy portion of masala is tough to overlook. And it wa The chicken in the masala was an outrage. It was so dry I literally thought I was gnawing on a bone. A colleague of mine said he thought it was a root. Really — that bad. Masala fries were tasty and the only reason I gave the place 2 stars. Next time if I ever go back I’ll stick to the fries and I’ll have them ladle some masala curry over the fries.

Reading some of these reviews on here: LOLzzz @ «tiny portions» … come on, I guess if you weigh 400lbs and are taller than Andre’ the Giant then I could see how the portions would be small. I ordered from here for the second time and I can tell you that I really enjoyed the chala and red curry dish that I had. It was nice and spicy with some pretty intense flavors. I had another vegetarian dish from there and it was equally as good. I had so much food that I ended up saving some of it for tomorrow. I was not crazy about the Samosa, the sauce on it was very, very good but the potato inside was very salty. I felt like I was at a «Salt Lick» when I bit into it. The ladies are very, very nice and they take debit cards. Great for those of who don’t want to eat at the El Blando work cafeteria where you need salt to salt your salt…;p Enjoy

The food is OK at best. Nothing Indian about naanwich — more of middle eastern than indian + no salt and no spices. Fries were hot but potato was not fully cooked.

Delicious and they even let me use my own take out container. The schedule on the website doesn’t seem to be up to date. I will definitely pull over and eat there again.

I love the concept of the gourmet food truck. I mean, really, who wouldn’t enjoy the prospect of a new restaurant setting up shop in front of their place of business every day? After sampling a few of New York’s finest mobile eateries and scoping out the San Diego scene online, I was excited to hear that the India on Wheels truck was parked just a short mile from work on most Tuesday’s and Thursday’s. After checking out the menu online and reviewing the mediocre Unilocal reviews, I decided that it was worth a shot and grabbed a friend to take the walk with me. Now I apologize in advance, and call me what you will, but when eating ethnic food I always take it as a good sign when I see that the place is frequented by people of the same ethnicity as the food. I mean, c’mon, Chinese people should know good Chinese food, Mexican people should know good Mexican food, and yes, Indian people should know good Indian food. That being said, India on Wheels definitely fit the bill! Anyway, because I can already get good Indian food in Mira Mesa, I was excited to see a couple of unique menu items on the roster. The Tandoori Tikka Grilled Cheese really caught my eye because it used familiar Indian ingredients in a new way. The item was described as spicy paneer cubes, pepper jack cheese and a special sauce grilled in naan bread. What’s not to like about that? For $ 5.50 and an extra $ 1.00 for a drink, I didn’t feel like I was being ripped off at all. We placed our orders and they came out very quickly. The, uh, sandwich(?), was decently portioned and came with an unadvertised side of fries with a bit of their special sauce on top. Bonus! While many other reviewers have complained about portions, this was not a problem at all for me. As far as the final product, the naan was really more like pita bread, but was still very good. The sauce was kind of like a slightly spicy masala and went well with both the pepper jack and the fries. All in all, I was very pleased. This definitely provides incentive to check out a few more of the San Diego food trucks when they happen to venture into the Sorrento/Mira Mesa area.

I had a sample bite of the samosa at the 57 degrees food truck extravaganza but unfortunately it was after I had three sandwiches already and I was full to my eyes with food truck meals. It was pretty tasty and I mentally bookmarked it, so when I found them again at the J St. Block party I was on it like Barry Bonds on Steroids. This time with an emptier stomach and cleaner palette, I found it a little too sweet to my liking. Next time I’m gonna go try the Tandoori Grilled Cheese… mmmm…cheese!

I’m been in a food truck frenzy lately, so when I learned about the new Indian truck, I stalked their schedule until they were in RB. Their pricing is less than many of the other gastrotrucks out there, and their menu has both traditional items(curries, etc.) and creative dishes(Naan-wich, Tandoori Tikka Grilled Cheese). Today I went with creative and ordered the Naan-wich. It looked sort of like a soft taco, with grilled paneer, onion, green peppers, and green chutney wrapped in naan. Yum. I love that green chutney! Yummy, minty, cilantro-y goodness. Mmmm. The sandwich was pretty tasty and came with some seasoned fries. I also got a samosa, which was just a samosa… not sure how you make a samosa interesting though! I will definitely try India on Wheels again. Next time I think I’ll try the grilled cheese — it sounds interesting. Other reviews have taken issue with the portion sizes, but my meal was substantial. After lunch, I felt stuffed. EDIT4⁄13: Upgrading to 4 stars! I tried them again, and this time I ordered the Tandoori Tikka Grilled Cheese. It was so delicious! I thought it sounded a little strange, but I’m willing to try grilled cheese anything. Boy I’m sure glad I did, because this«sandwich» was amazing. Tandoori tikka, sauteed green onions, and green peppers, all wrapped up in naan, with fries on the side. It was definitely cheesy as a grilled cheese sandwich should be, but with an Indian twist. 2 good meals for 2. And friendly service to boot.

I really wanted to like this place because their food is actually pretty good. Their prices seem reasonable at first glance, but considering the TINYTINY portions they give, it really isn’t. I can get 3 times as much food as that from Punjabi Tandoor(WITH meat also!) for about $ 2.00 more. However, that being said, I gave this truck 2 tries when they stopped at my work. Both times, food(all veggie) tasted okay, but the portions where way too small, even for someone like me, who usually only eats ½ of my food and saves the other half for another meal. As I was eating the food, coworkers would ask how the food was, and the best I could say was«food tastes fine, but it’s REALLLY small».(Also their mango lassi is pretty good, and compared to the rest of their offerings, reasonably priced at $ 2.50.) After 2 weeks, they decided to stop by at our office at 10:30AM because they weren’t getting enough business during lunch time. 10:30 for indian food? I wish they’d come back because the food wasn’t bad, but then at the same time, I think I’d be hesitant about trying them again and starting to get hungry again 1 hour after lunch.

As the latest incarnation of San Diego’s only Indian food truck, it’s hard not to compare India on Wheels to the business formerly known as Copper Chimney( ). The mobile Indian food truck niche has been filled by India on Wheels in Allen’s departure from the scene and this up-and-coming truck has many shortcomings. Our hero was quite disappointed by the following flaws in his paneer makhani lunch: — The rice was cold and undercooked. — The paratha was hard and chewy. — The raita was so runny it was impossible to eat with the plastic fork given. — The paneer makhani serving size only had 3 small pieces of paneer in it and was not very filling. PROS: — It’s the only Indian food truck in San Diego at the time of this review, making it somewhat of a unique eatery. CONS: — Vegetarian meals only. No meat whatsoever. — Sides are bland and cold. It doesn’t taste fresh and isn’t made to order. — Small portion sizes. — Rather expensive at $ 6.50 for meals considering the meager amount of food that you get.

Tried out this truck at the food truck event a few weeks ago. Got the cashew and cheese curry. Delicious food but unfortunately they ran out of most of it at the food truck rally. Nice to see them there though because they had a lot of vegetarian options which others trucks were lacking in. Flavors in the curry were spicy yet smooth but the nan was too oily. I would definitely go back to this truck if I saw it on the street.

I really enjoy Indian food and I was glad when this truck started to come by our work every Tuesday(4780 Eastgate Mall). The food is all vegetarian and is pretty good but I’m giving it a 3-stars simply because the portions are way too small and the raita is a horrible watery consistency. I’ve had 2 meals from thus far and the cost for a single meals is $ 6.50. If you use a charge card, add .25 cents. For that, I get about a handful of rice, less than a handful of a veggie dish, and watery raita with an indian bread side. My suggestions: * Either drop the price or increase the portion size. If I chose a single veggie dish, that portion should be larger than getting a .50 upgrade to two veggie dishes. * Rework the raita. I’ve eaten friends mom’s raita, had raita in over a dozen restaurants, love slathering raita with my rice… but watery raita doesn’t make any sense to me unless you’re trying to save money and diluting the yogurt base. It ends up making my rice soggy and forms a lake for everything else. * The veggie korma is corn/pea/string bean based. I’ve tried 3 different kormas, all of which use more substantial vegetables than corns and peas. I’ll try it again sometime soon because I want to support small businesses but I seriously hope they fix really address those issues cause for $ 6.50 there’s a lot of other competing places that I’ll drive to to get my indian fix.
