Since I’ve been coming to see Dr. Chou my neck and lower back issues have become stabilized. This is something I never really thought I would ever experience. Now I do my stretching exercises, don’t do stupid things and viola! No more pain. But I still go to see her on a maintenance basis, every few months or so. My last visit I asked her to just work on my shoulders, forearms and hands. I’m not as young as I used to be. My fingers aren’t quite so nimble and flexible. Not a lot but enough that I notice. It doesn’t affect the quality of my work but it causes me to exert more control. The end result is it makes me more tired at the end of the day. After the treatment I couldn’t believe how different my hands felt not to mention the loss of stress in my shoulders. Usually after driving from L.A. to San Diego I feel so completely wasted when we get home. This time it was completely different. And today my hands feel so good I can’t wait to get back to work tomorrow. As she was doing the physical therapy after removing the needles she made the comment: «I can’t believe that more people don’t ask for this». This began a discussion about all of the different jobs that could benefit from acupuncture and specifically the treatment of the arms and hands. Of course the first category was anyone who uses a computer(duh). But also mentioned were hair stylists, grocery checkers, mechanics(I fall into this category but the machines are very, very tiny) as well as chefs. The list could go on and on. The point I’m trying to make is that so often we look at going to see the doctor only when we have some catastrophe(yes, I know. how cliché). But it’s amazing how one of Dr. Chou’s treatments can have such an impact on quality of life. Even when there really wasn’t anything seriously wrong in the first place. Frankly, for $ 65 it’s one of the biggest«no brainers ever. I always buy the«Package» which gets you four treatments for $ 220(a savings of $ 40 or $ 55 per treatment). But even at $ 65 it’s such an amazing bargain. She accepts insurance but sadly mine doesn’t cover acupuncture. But it would cover traditional physical therapy if I were so inclined. So consider this: I find it totally worth it to drive all the way to San Diego from Culver City to see Dr. Chou and pay for it out of my own pocket even though I could get physical therapy for the cost of my co-pay through the UCLA medical system. How’s that for a recomendation? And besides, what have you done nice for yourself lately?
