I am very surprised to have the opportunity to be the first person to review James Knight on Unilocal! He has lots of great reviews on his website and I know he is really busy because since I started seeing him in Feb, I have had to book at least 2 weeks ahead of time for an appointment at his Carlsbad location. A friend recommended that I see him for bodywork and somatics for a longstanding shoulder issue along with neck and upper back tension. She had actually taken one of his training courses and taught me some of his gentle somatic exercises for my shoulder including this one and they really helped(I had tried so many other things which made it significatnly better, but this seemed to be the final puzzle piece that I needed to get rid of that problem once and for all). That first ½ bodywork and ½ somatics session was great and it was really interesting to experience the way my mind and body reacted to his novel approach of retraining nerves and muscles to release the unconscious dysfunctional holding patterns that were behind my chronic and acute pain and tension. He calls that«neuromuscular amnesia.» I floated out of there on cloud 9. He taught me some new exercises to do at home and followed up by emailing me youtube videos of them. You really should experience this for yourself if you are in constant or frequent pain. I have returned twice for 90 minutes of bodywork which were both wonderful and therapeutic and will continue to see him regularly. The most recent visit was the best — I told him exactly what my physical therapist(Mike Wright at Longevity Physical Therapy in Carlsbad, who I also highly recommend) had told me about areas where I had restricted movement and muscle groups that were overcompensating and James honed right in on all the areas that needed attention. He found and deactivated all kinds of trigger points including some in my arm that I hadn’t even mentioned to him but which had been bothering me a lot. He obviously has a solid understanding of myofascial connections. I swear I felt areas in my left leg releasing while he was working on my right shoulder. Last but not least, he is a great guy with wonderful positive energy, we always have the most interesting conversations(I’m also a health and wellness facilitator) and he’s truly a pleasure to be around.
