So the old Katzra straight up left and took everything with them right down to the menu. I was really sad that they left because I loved the food, but I was willing to give the new management a try since I was starving and already there. So first I have to note that they informed us they had just moved in on Monday, and the day we came in was Wednesday, so they barely had time to get things situated. Although, if you aren’t ready, why be open? I’m not sure. Anyway we ordered the usual, salmon belly and bluefin tuna. The first thing I noticed was how hard and undercooked the rice was. It was almost inedible. They barely had any other fish, so we just ordered gyoza. They literally had nothing which was a bummer. Oh yeah, we also ordered Eel and avo handrolls, but they forgot about them. We were actually relieved since the rice was undercooked. However, they didn’t even remember our order. Them forgetting our order was a pro and con. I mean, I’m willing to give them another try in a the far future so they perfect their dishes, but right now I’m not wowed and deterred from going back. The old Katzra never disappointed, so I’m hoping they get their stuff together and give us sushi we remember. Their customer service was on point, but the food wasn’t. I’ll come back in like 3 months for something!

Super sad they changed owners and menu, I notice the second I walked in the door it smelled bad. I stupidly decided to try it out, it was pretty bad not the worst I’ve ever had but I guess I will find out later with how sick I get. I am not feeling that great after

One of my favorite sushi restaurants in SD! Fish is fresh and you can taste the quality. Circus roll and paradise gotta try those rolls! The place is pretty small and they can get a little busy but it’s worth the wait. The only thing that sucks is they close on Sundays. UPDATE! They changed owners and everything! I went there today craving for a circus roll and had to walk out disappointed. :(the whole menu changed and no happy hour menu.

Came in here for the first time around lunch time and there wasn’t a wait. Parking lot is pretty big, which is great that its not small and uptight like the other parking lots in convoy. 50% off on new special rolls, 40% on to go rolls and 20% off their house special rolls. We ordered a crunch shrimp dynamite roll, star wars roll, playboy roll, angry caterpillar roll and sunflower roll. Our server was very nice as well and patient. I’d definitely recommend the angry caterpillar and crunch shrimp roll!

My in laws and I were trying to find good sushi spot around convoy. Happy to find this little sushi bar. When we went they had a special deal where their new special rolls were 50% off. We ended up ordering the Playboy roll: love lemons! Star Wars roll: deep fried(my least favorite) Crunch shrimp dynamite roll: good but didn’t have a lot of shrimp sunflower roll: salmon on the outside Angry caterpillar: love avocado ! Our server was nice and food came out in a timely manner. Sad to say I didn’t take any pictures since we were really hungry, but we will probably be back for their happy our specials !

By far one of my favorite places to get sushi. The smoked salmon is very tasty and smokey. I also love that they use fried onions on top of their rolls. The smokey salmon is a must try. Thank me later! FYI they charge to customize any roll I think 2 or 3 bucks extra but the food is good so I don’t care.

Still so good. The sunny side up roll is good. Gold rush has dollops of garlic on each bite. The entire roll is 8.95. The beer/sake deal is great. But two beers get an order of hot sake for one cent! #bomb idk the names of the chefs, but they recognize me and the wait staff are attentive as well.

50% off New Special Rolls, 20% off House Special Rolls. Buy two large beer get 1 hot Sake for a penny. Miso Soup: Well flavored not watered down Panko Oysters: Worth ordering again. How they get the Panko to stay on the oyster when frying is a nifty trick! Rice, Teri Chicken, Salad, Gyoza, Spicy Tuna: Average Special roll: I forgot the name but it was named after a flower. Pretty presentation. Average on the taste buds but filling. You can catch a game here if that’s your thing.

Second time at this little hole in wall… had to finish the review. MAGIC! Intimate environment — and all that comes with that kind of setting. Sat at the sushi bar both times and the chef was so engaging. Highly recommended. A hidden gem in the Convey area.

This place was definitely a hole in the wall that I would’ve never known about had my friend suggested we go here. Our Saturday night plans of getting sushi from Diner and Deli failed us since the wait for both places was so long, so we went over here and got seated immediately. The restaurant is small and the space is shared with Convoy Tofu House right next door, and it was funny to see a sliding door being used to separate the room. The servers were fine but couldn’t speak English too well but it wasn’t too much of a problem. They have really good half off roll specials and their happy hour advertisement looked promising. Maybe next time I’ll stop in for their happy hour. I ordered the playboy roll and a fresh seafood salad, and my friend got the sunflower roll. Playboy: spicy tuna, shrimp tempura and pickled jalapeño, hamachi and lemon on top. This was a really delicious roll but I feel like I’m biased because I love rolls with lemon. The flavors tasted refreshing and tangy and worked pretty well together. Fresh seafood salad: Fish tasted fresh and good; I have no complaints about the sashimi. Sunflower roll: had a good flavor and texture, and the seaweed salad in the roll was yummy too. Overall a good place to get cheap sushi but still pretty tasty. I’ll come back to try other rolls and for happy hour.

This place is a hidden gem. I have eaten all over convoy for years and I just discovered this place now. Firstly service was excellent, our waitress was a very nice and friendly person. We ordered the chef special sashimi plate and the fish was not only fresh but they cut good portions. I also ordered uni nigiri and it was soooo good, uni is my favorite and you can order it live too! It was my bf birthday and they were nice enough to set up a cute little bear made of oranges with candles and fire thing. I was very happy with my experience and the food quality and will definitely be back!

The place is quite small… if you have a big party you may want to call ahead if possible. We went on a wed night so there were 4 seats open, 2 at the sushi bar and 2 at a table. There’s only one waitress so you can tell how small it is. And so, the service was a little on the slow side, but that gave me time to catch up with my friend. It’s connected to the curry house next to it, probably owned by the same person. Their happy hour deals were great! $ 21 for dinner for 2! I really liked the ponzu yellow tail sashimi.

Had to try this sushi place! The restaurant was nice and the staff was fairly nice too. Price was pretty good because we got to order the new sushi rolls! The sushi was good. But nothing special about it. I would probably go somewhere else if I wanted a really good sushi rolls. Although, the price was pretty good compared to the other sushi places. Overall, okay

I made a reservation for 15 people and I did not realize that this place was that small. I came here on my birthday and for 15(+) people the woman who served us was pretty quick. We thought the sushi was gonna take long to come out since there were so many of us but our meals came out in around 10 – 15 minutes. FOOD: Everything was fresh as well! I ordered the: M.V.P: This roll is perfect if you like a little spicy in your food. It has baked salmon on top and crab, avocado, cucumber, and ‘special sauce’ inside. There was a little too much mayo for my liking but other than that this roll was delicious! They offer a lot of special rolls & their happy hour menu is packed with delicious rolls! Happy hour ends at 7 so make sure you come between 3 – 7 if you want a good deal on a special roll. All of my friends said their rolls were good so I’m pretty sure you can get away with ordering anything & still be satisfied. Keep in mind that if you go with a group you have to pay gratuity & it’s actually pretty pricey. Come here if you want low prices on good sushi rolls but keep in mind that coming with a group can be a little more pricy. Also, they don’t split the check, maybe cos our group was pretty big, so it might be hard if you’re paying separately with a group of friends. CUSTOMERSERVICE: Overall, we all left satisfied. The service was quick & friendly as well.

Walked into a really small, busy, and loud restaurant — exactly what I like at sushi restaurants! No seats were available and no one was there to help us. I think there was only one lady working the front of the house taking orders, getting drinks, etc. All the seats were full so we stood by a wall connecting to the tofu restaurant next door, and a man sitting at the bar generously gave my boyfriend and I his seat and the empty one next to him. We were given menus and our drink orders were taken. We ordered 1 app and 2 rolls. Everything was good! They offer a good number of discounts for different types of rolls which are listed on their walls as partial décor and on a board upon walking into the restaurant. Cheese Katsu: I know what katsu is, but I don’t know what katsu truly is as far as taste and crunch texture, if that makes sense. That being said, I found this to be tasty! Breaded and fried cheese with sliced pork served with a semi-sweet brown sauce. I want more just thinking about it because cheese(mm) and because fried cheese(mm). Dragon roll: I don’t usually eat eel, but I really liked this roll! The eel was served on top with avocado, stuffed with crab and cucumber. Not sure if there was anything else since my bf ordered it. It just tasted. idk comforting. Nothing fancy or extra, just simple and good. It was also plated to look like a dragon(: Ninja roll: I liked this, but not as much as the dragon roll. It has tempura shrimp inside and shrimp on top, so you get pretty shrimped out. I was a little thrown off with the heat of the sriracha and coldness of the inside of the roll. Definitely a play with temperature. Hoping to come back during happy hour to take advantage of some of their food and drink specials!

I was introduced to Katzra by my sister. It is now one of my favorite sushi restaurants in SD. They have many great specials: 50% off rolls from their special menu and 20% off all house rolls all day, everyday! They also have a great happy hour menu from 5pm-7pm that includes discounted appetizers and a few drink specials. The best time to come here is during lunch before the parking chaos in the plaza. This place is pretty small and intimate. They are divided by a wall that is shared with Tofu House. They also share a bathroom with them, if you happen to end up needing one! As for the food… Everything is pretty delicious. Garlic Edamame or miso soup is always a great way to start your meal. Sushi rolls are always fresh and well presented. My favorites happen to be the Angel Roll, Awesome Roll, and Jungle Roll with salmon instead of albacore on top(the server remembers me as the girl who always does this lol.) The service here is always amazing. Everyone is incredibly nice and kind. My friend did a last minute birthday get together here and with 8 of us walk-ins, they were all very kind to push tables together and get everything set up for us. Since the place is more on the smaller side, we were a pretty huge party to come in for dinner. But the servers were patient with us and for that, I’m extremely grateful. They were even cool enough to turn down the lights, hold up a strobe light, and bring out a bear made out of oranges for our friend as we all sang happy birthday! God, I love this place. I have recommended Katzra to quite a few people who came to fall in love with it, so I hope you check it out and fall in love with it too!

This delightful hole in the wall is definitely worth a visit. It doesn’t look like much on the outside but dang do they have some rockin sushi(Bridesmaids, anyone??). We tried the Brother roll(classic and delicious), Star Wars(has a kick), and Angry Caterpillar(fried onions make it quite unique). Good prices — all three rolls were about $ 8. My favorite part of this whole place is that they provide chop stick holders so they don’t get all nasty sitting on the table. A germaphobes’s dream! Service was quick and friendly. We didn’t opt for 5 stars because the music is pretty lameo and the décor is blazè. Probably not first date worthy.

This place was a nice surprise, hungry and wanting sushi and hoping we don’t have to wait since it was a Friday night. We didn’t know where this was at first, but as we drove in the parking lot, it was Convoy Tofu House parking lot. We are familiar with that and then we noticed it, it’s the sushi place right next door. We ate at the Tofu House plenty of times and never really bothered to try the sushi place next door. It looks like they changed their name and had a grand opening. We walked in and it looked full but luckily there was room at the sushi bar. We ordered only two rolls and edamame. Both rolls unfortunately was saturated with the sauce. I forgot the names of it but I ask for the menu again and the menu doesn’t indicate the sauce. It’s more for decoration or for it to look nice, but there is so much it becomes part of the roll I rather opt out. Sitting at the sushi bar I didn’t see one roll without the sauce, it was either the Japanese Mayo or the brown one. It was on all the rolls. I guess that’s how they do it there. Most people like that stuff, but sometimes, I just like things plain. The fish was not bad and the price was right. They have certain rolls that were considered a certain percentage off. So when we got the check we saw the discount. Because I wasn’t paying for high price rolls I didn’t really complain. The service was great and everyone seemed very nice. So I have to say I’ll definitely would want to come back and maybe next time I’ll just customize and tell them hold the sauce. Great Option for cheap sushi versus trying to wait at Sushi Deli.

I come here a lot. Its right next to Tofu house and they have a good selection of sushi here. Off the 50% menu, I always get the sunflower, salsa, and shrimp dynamite. Off the reg menu, my favorites are the cheese pork katsu, smoked salmon roll, circus, anything with lemon and katzra roll. The seaweed salad and poke salad is really good also. One of my fav sushi spots
