Stopped while on jury duty — had the verde burrito– needed a fork/knife to eat(as they should) — it was very tasty. Didn’t expect much from its nondescript front– but food good, was a large serving, place was clean. Will go again tomorrow!

I’ve eaten at most of the restaurants within the few blocks radius of where I work. Based on the Unilocal reviews, I’ve actually have been hesitant to try Lucy’s. The reviews seemed to project that it was highly overpriced, mediocre at best Mexican food. The store front is close to the Bail Bonds on West C Street and the train tracks. and the place mostly seems empty during the week. This week, however, I was desperate enough to give it a try. Needed something quick and easy to eat. so I called in my order for a California burrito. They were curt but polite on the phone. They only take the order. no name. number. etc. Nor do they tell you how long it will be before your order is ready. I can’t help but notice the nearly 43% price increase between the two menus posted in the photos($ 5.29 in 2009 vs. $ 7.50 in 2015). I guess that’s the going rate for 2015. The lady at the counter was stern. polite enough. and efficient. Shouted back my phone order through the window and it was ready to go. $ 8.10 including tax. She threw in a few hot sauces and off I went. Noticed there were a few patrons dining in. Burrito wasn’t as small as some prior reviewers claimed to be. It’s a good 9 inches long. and regular sized in width. Standard tortilla. french fries weren’t as crispy as another reviewer hailed them to be. the meat was well-seasoned. more on the peppery and saucy side. and it was only cheese and pico de gallo. Pretty plain for a California burrito. but also pretty standard. i ate two halves(so from the middle). and there was a bit of grease at the ends. but nothing too crazy. The hot sauce has a kick. and it’s not too bad. Overall, it’s not bad. it’s not great. Everything in downtown is expensive. so it does what it needs to do for a quick mexican food lunch. It’s definitely not a go-to location for Mexican food; nor a place I would rave about or refer to other Unilocalers. But if you’re in the area. not wanting a sandwich, and Chipotle has yet another E. Coli breakout. Lucy’s will do it’s job. It’s not fabulous food. but it’s quick and easy. Pricey for what it is. but eh. I’ve definitely have had worse.

Had the California burrito, thing didn’t stand a chance. I pretty much devoured the thing upon getting it. Dope a## fries were crunchy and moist, the carne asada was seasoned well, had pico de gallo in it to add a lil spice. Yep, it was awesome.

Tried Lucy’s today for the first time and I wish I could go back in time and walk the other way. Disgusting! I ordered a carne asada burrito was shocked when they told me it was $ 8.08. I said I don’t want a combination plate, just the burrito. They said that is just the burrito. Well, I was already there so I paid and sat down. The burrito is not huge and I had to spit out numerous bites of food due to inedible hunks of grissle and fat. Never, ever again!

$ 7 for a breakfast burrito is ridiculous. The French fries were a bit soggy, the mixed shredded cheese was unmelted and refrigerator cold, and the pico de gallo had no flavor. Pass forever.

The fish taco is really a fish stick on a tortilla… Saving grace(kind of): the spicy red sauce/salsa that comes with your order — it’s got a kick to it. If you drown your food in it, you might forget the fact that you are eating a frozen fish stick. Prices are reasonable/cheap for the area; they accept credit cards; and there’s some seating inside, though I wouldn’t recommend a party bigger than four.

Ordered a shrimp quesadilla, gotta go back for the shrimp apparently. It’s ok, we only went for the décor and ambiance anyways.

Good, standard Mexican. Pretty expensive though. Also, no one goes to a taco shop for the ambiance but this place is a little cluttered and disorderly, even by mexican food standards.

Food here is just ok but prices have really sky rocketed here lately, $ 6.50 plus tax for a breakfast burrito is a bit steep!

Food is very good but the prices have gone up dramatically. I know it’s downtown but $ 6.50 for a breakfast burrito is a little steep. Service is good and they do take phone orders.

I’m glad that I stumbled upon Lucy’s on my way to work. I stopped by for lunch on a Thursday. It was busy when I arrived with a line almost outside the door, but I got my food within seven minutes. I noticed a lot of people called in their order. I’ll do that next time. 3 rolled tacos: the rolled tacos are crunchy, with fresh guacamole on top and a lot of cheese. I will crave these rolled tacos again. Carne asada torta: when I unwrapped the foil, I was surprised by how big the torta was. I only ate half and saved the rest for later. The carne asada was comparable to other taco shops. What I liked the most was the bread because the inside was grilled, making the inside crunchy and the outside soft. I don’t know if everyone would like that because the inside was almost burnt, but I love almost anything blackened. It reminded me of being at a BBQ. Hot sauce: a little too spicy for regular hot sauce, but I did enjoy it. I’ll come back here to fulfill my taco cravings!

$ 7.00BUCKS for a breakfast burrito… AM I THEONLYPERSONINSANDIEGOTHATDISAGREESWITHTHISPLACE! YOUCANBUY A DOZENEGGSFOR A $ 1ATTHE $.99CENTSSTORE!!! GIVEME A BREAK. I work downtown so there are several taco shops within a 3 – 4 block radius of my office, I don’t usually go to Lucy’s but this day i was invited by a co-worker so I said what the heck. we jumped online to check the menu and place a phone order and their carne asada burrito online showed the price of $ 5.75 which is normal for a burrito. So we ordered a chimichanga, 3 rolled tacos and my carne asada burrito. when we arrived at Lucy’s the total came to more than $ 20 bucks! I asked to pay for my burrito seperate and to my amazement my burrito was a whopping $ 8.10!!! NOT A COMBOPLATEJUSTONEBURRITO! I ASKEDTHELADYWHYWASMYBURRITOSOEXPENSIVESHEJUSTSMILEDASIFSHEDIDN’T SPEAKENGLISHANYMORE. I actually refused to pay for an $ 8 burrito so my friend ended up paying for it! I payed her back with a Starbucks coffee :) I WILLNOTBEEATINGATLUCY’S.

I admit it. I’m the jerk that walked in at 1:50 and ordered the breakfast burrito they stop serving at 11. And asked for no bacon. And proceeded to ask to use the private restroom. All three requests were happily honored. Even better, my burrito was gooey, well-constructed, and satisfying. Next time, I’ll know to add pico and avocado.

I work close by so this is a convenient place for when I want a quick fix of mexican food. The people that run the place are very friendly and efficient. The food is decent enough and reasonably priced. My burrito was a bit on the dry side, so I ended up drenching it in salsa or the hot sauces, which was pretty good. I had the carne asada fries once and really enjoyed it.

CHIMICHANGA’S AREHUGE! The chicken in mine was well marinated and perfectly juicy! Plenty of sour cream, pico de gallo, guacamole, and lettuce on the side and on the top! The table tops could be a little cleaner– I suggest taking it to go!

This place is cute. It reminds me of sitting in my friend’s kitchen and her mom cooking mexican food for us. I ordered chicken tacos with red rice. The chicken was good. The portions were great for the price. The food, slightly Americanized with a heavy serving of mom-and-pop. I love it! I will certainly be back again soon: d

With so many taco shops in SD, I really wasn’t expecting a whole lot with Lucy’s. I assumed with it being located in the heart of SD, the majority of the reviews would be from the drunks stopping by on their way home from a night on the town. Everyone knows that drunks don’t make the best judgments because as we’ve all been there. Well I wasn’t downtown for that reason and I actually stopped by during the lunch hour. I am happy to say that I was pleasantly surprised at the outcome. First off, I was expecting considerably higher prices than I would at other places. WRONG… Lucy’s is pretty cheap eats with good sized portions. The Carney Assad(my standby) was seasoned well and very tender. Don’t expect to sit down and get comfortable here as the inside is about the size of a postage stamp. There are a couple of tables inside and a couple out. This is really more of a grab and go type of place. The line wasn’t too bad when we got there but it definitely began to fill up as we left, with people extending out the door. A great taco place? Nah. But it is pretty darn good and met my fix.

I dunno what the deal is with this place, but I really like the food. Now, part of it is definitely because I don’t get good Mexican food in Virginia, but I did grow up in the Bay Area and went to college in LA, so Im no expert, but I think that Lucy’s is legit. Everytime I’m in San Diego, I get food at Lucy’s. The lunch lines? I’ve been there at noon and around one, and I’ve never had to wait more than ten mins to get my food. I’ve had the carne asada burrito(delicious, spiced carne, all meat and guac and a nice homemade tortilla), the beef taco rolls(three taquitos covered in guac and cheese), the carnitas tacos(crispy pork, guac, fresh veggies), and the fish tacos(crispy fish, guac, fresh veggies). Seriously guys, I dunno… I’ve eaten here 6 – 8 times and every time has been pleasant. The food has always been delicious, fresh, cooked hot to order, the meats are all juicy and flavorful, and the guac is heavy handed(which I love). I think its legit…
