MakerPlace

Makerplace is a great place to learn and use amazing equipment and tools. The classes they give are a bit short but encourage you to start teaching yourself. I have taken a few classes here and have been able to become proficient in using corel draw. I mostly use the lasers and wood shop. If there is ever a certain job or project I have lined up I know that makerplace has the exact tool to make the job easier.

Great place to work, lots of cool people around. Nice tools just don’t expect to show up and have everyone else do your project for free, but if you want to spend the time to learn some new skills. This is the place to do it.

It’s like you have a huge garage and a serious amount of spare money to get all the machines you need.

Awesome workshop with access to many high end equipment including 3D printers and CNC machines for creating and building cool stuff. Only weak point is they don’t offer much in terms of electronics or robotics and the product I am building is heavy on electronics and tech so I will need to find a place that specializes in this area.

MakerPlace is a wonderful venue filled with high-​end tools and equipment that most people can’t afford and/​or don’t have room for. They have everything from skill saws and drills to 3D printers to embroidery machines. Members pay a monthly fee for unlimited access to these tools as well as the spacious workshop. Membership fees are rather steep, so joining is only worth it if you plan on using the space a lot!
They also offer classes, and you don’t need to be a member to attend, but there is a fee. I’ve found the staff to be super-​friendly and eager to help people out.
We need more places like this to foster creativity in people and motivate them to DIY and not purchase everything. Why? Well, for starters, there’s nothing quite like the feeling of making something you never knew you could make. Not only is the process of crafting very cathartic, but it also builds confidence. Also, most items nowadays are imported Chinese or Indian pieces of crap that follow the planned obsolescence model. This means they are actually designed to fail within a few years so you have to buy them again. Talk about a slap in the face to consumers!

We were intrigued by what we had read about the MakerPlace so we decided to find out more about it. Be forewarned, there is totally inadequate signage so figuring out where to park was difficult.
When we finally got to the MakerPlace «courtyard,» we were intrigued by a tent offering «Backsedators.» Pursuant to trying to get us to buy his product, the owner removed the sling my daughter was in for a fractured shoulder and forced her arm up over her head. Because of the damage he did, she may well require more surgery.
I don’t know yet how much liability the MakerPlace incurs when people who use the facility injure the public on MakerPlace property. I hope I don’t have to find out.

I felt it appropriate to update my review of MakerPlace, especially since the owner reached out in an effort to resolve my earlier complaints. I very much respect and appreciate their response and willingness to resolve the matter. In retrospect, I was a little harsh in my criticism and, given the nature of their business, policies need to be in place for a reason. Bottom line, MakerPlace provides a unique environment you can’t really get elsewhere and for that I’m a fan.
For future customers, just be mindful of the time needed to get to Makerplace, the parking, traffic, etc… Also respect appointment times and call ahead if you’ll miss a class.

Seriously an amazing space. I’ve been in the shop more times than I can count and am still just floored by how awesome the space is, all the things they offer and how cool the staff and members are. I love MakerPlace not just for all the resources but also for the constant hum of creativity and its great community feel.
Definitely check this place out — they give free tours. You won’t regret it.

Wow, this place is amazing. Pretty much every piece of equipment you could ever need for any kind of hobby.
You pay a monthly fee, and get use of all the equipment. Some of the more specialized and dangerous equipment requires you to take a training course, but once you take it you are «certified» and can use the equipment at you leisure.
If you are just interested in the sewing and embroidery equipment, they have a special lower cost membership just for use of that room.
My favorite thing here are the laser cutters. Pretty much anything you would think to create out of wood or plastic can be accomplished by this awesome piece of machinery.
They also have a selection of 3D printers, and a large format inkjet printer.
You don’t need to be a member to take classes, so if you are interested in picking up a new hobby, it might be a good idea to try out some classes and see what you like before committing to a membership.

Just visited for a pre-​opening event, and this place is 100% amazing. It’s a workshop with monthly membership plans as well as daily passes that’s opening officially in a week.
They have everything that you, the creative maker, need to build your dream. From saws and wood to sewing machines and thread, from Adobe Photoshop to oscilloscopes and other electronics, from offices to meeting rooms, from laser cutters to a 3D printing machine. I was blown away because I’ve never seen so much industrial machinery before.
They’ve also teamed up with Fab Lab San Diego and UCSD extension to offer classes for either kids or adults on electronics (Arduino), digital arts, iPhone and web development, and more, beginning in April or May.
