Very nice employees there! Loved the experience. Shoveling our own compost was something new.

Forget the smell upon arrival. If you live within a certain area code you are more then welcome to come here and get free mulch and compost. Try to come early because this place gets very busy. I love using my empty dog food bags because they are large and durable! If you have a truck you can get it loaded for you for a small fee. This place is awesome. The employees are also really nice every time… Please read the difference of compost and mulch prior to arrival. FREE

I’m not sure there’s much the city does right but they seem to have this greenery thing dialed!:) Reduce, reuse, recyle… great place to bring your recyclable greenery rather have it buried at the landfill in one big hole in the ground and an excellent source for some quality compost and mulch, free to city residents… Giddy Up!

If the City of San Diego is ever going to meet ever increasing state-mandated rates of recycling, it is important to consider how approximately 30% of the residential waste entering the Miramar Landfill is recyclable green material! That means rather than ditching this waste in the landfill, you can get a discount on recycling incoming loads of clean green waste, dry wood, and lumber at the Miramar Greenery. The discount depends on your vehicle’s size. City of San Diego residents can also bring home generated greens to the Greenery free of charge! This time of year, Christmas trees are finding their way to the Greenery and also being accepted for recycling at 16 areas city wide. Important to remember: both green and flocked trees(fake snow) are accepted. All tree stands, lights, ornaments, tinsel, and other tree decorations must be removed. No artificial trees will be recycled. The Miramar Greenery accepts this recyclable green waste to produce high quality mulch, compost and wood chips that are available to the public. Greenery recycling is essential to prolonging the life of the landfill and help reduce waste. The Miramar Greenery plays a very important environmental role and not just at Christmas time with disposing of your holiday tree but all year long. The acceptable yard trimmings Miramar Greenery will take include: leaves & flowers, tree trimmings & prunings, logs & branches, shrubbery & brush, and, of course, those Christmas trees. Even wood products are recycled at the Miramar Greenery, and that includes pallets & dimensional Lumber and unpainted lumber. I hope that a city-wide program can also get going where multi-unit apartment buildings can get in on the recycling of yard waste. Since apartment dwellers do not have individual trash pick-up, it would be nice if environmentally-savvy property managers would put a green recycling dumpster on site, especially after the holidays, to keep the Christmas trees out of the trash dumpsters and the gardener’s grass clippings where they can do the most good: recycled at the Miramar Greenery!
