Morse High School

Lovely school, lovely teachers. There are only a few teachers at this fine institution of learning that I believe hold students back on going further in life, but I will keep them anonymous. Although many teachers at this school give off inspiration and cause little harm to their pupils, a new-​arriving student must know of the possible things that may happen to them. Please keep in mind that I’ve noticed that our school has naturally been advancing and maturing as time goes by, so the following things may be rare or even completely unheard of in the future.
Students may cause tension towards one another. A select few may have knowledge of illegal items. A student may lose one or two or even more valuable items throughout the school year.
I’ve gotten many things stolen at this school, and minimal teachers had the time to help. Here’s a list of things stolen from me throughout the 3, almost 4 years of my enrollment :
1 Master Lock.
1 Backpack, which included personal books and class notebooks.
1 Harvard Beanie.
2 Wallets which both included my public transportation cards, and debit cards.
1 iPhone 5s.
Countless pencils and materials.
$ 70, throughout the 3 years of attendance.
My leniency.
I’d say the negativity to positivity ratio would be at about 1:6. There’s more to look at:
Being a nerd here may actually increase your reputation. Students at Morse have an abundance of school spirit, and we can thank our ASB for their efforts in bringing said school spirit. There are many clubs and sports teams that this school has to offer, and a student may probably join more than 1 in his/​her enrollment. Students are usually friendly and easy to talk to, and 85% of the time have good manners. We have an outstanding basketball team. Our school lunch is eh, but it’s definitely not bleh. You’ll find that the advanced teachers often offer more quality information, and passion as well. We have a thing called «tiger muffins» which are basically breakfast muffins, and they’re divine. Our school newspaper, Morse Code, sheds light on all the things a student needs to know. We finally got air conditioning this year (2015 – 2016).
We’re not what outsiders may call, a «ghetto» school. «Ghetto» does not apply to such a school that is completely active. We’re a great school.
This review has been edited for probably the fifth time.

So I don’t know why it is such a big deal going to this field. I love it here for football games. You get a great game, awesome AYF staff that run Skyline Youth Football and the weather seems to always be nice and cool on the field. Yeah, I know its off Skyline Dr, and people tend think the worse. Its really a nice community and it has held many youth sporting events there and in the area. Take a drive on over the next time there is a game and you will see for yourself. Organization

Great school, on top of your kids !!! If my teenagers are late to school I get a phone call from school, missed assignments, I get a phone call from school, bad test grade, I get a phone call from school if my kid Farts In class, I get a phone call from the teacher saying what it smelled like !!! They do a great job informing you on your kids !!!

My old high school! Class of 2001. I hope it looks better after all the renovations. The field looks great! Thank you Chargers!

I’m giving my (not so) old school a high rating based on my experience there. I loved my teachers (for the most part), I enjoyed the people I met, and I had a great time being a busybody and getting involved.
I would minus 0.5 stars because the security adjustments that the school tried implementing during my junior/​senior year. They used a lot of money just to make the gates TALLER, which had no affect whatsoever. We could’ve used that money for something better, I think. They could’ve fixed-​up the bathrooms or something — O’Farrell has way better bathrooms than Morse. But anywho, Morse is bad at enforcing whatever security rules they want to put on their students.
If I were to rate Morse based on how it is now, based on this upcoming year, I would definitely, unfortunately, bump it down two stars. SO MANY TEACHERS RETIRED AND LEFT! No more Mr. Keith, or Skalman, or Bengston… most all the teachers I wanted to visit while in college aren’t even there anymore. Ms. Bergan’s staying though, which I’m happy about. But still, y’know?

End of Freshman year at Bell:
oh man…10^th grade here I come… now during this time there was a lot drama going on between a few races… blacks vs filipinos. yada yada​.my mama did not want me going there cuz she thought it wasn’t safe…
UC here I come :(
Thank God I missed the appointments for UC on purpose… Otherwise I wouldn’t have met the friends I have now… Morse wasn’t really bad as people thought… I mean there were fights. but that happens everywhere… we did have a Principal that wasn’t afraid to get in the mix and break up the fights… Go Ms. Miyasaki!
Only bad incident I ever encountered was when I was walking through Brandywood… a big black kid yells at me asking what size my Jordans were… Good thing I’m armed with a quick wit… I reply size 7(in a squeeky voice) only cuz i knew he wouldn’t be able to fit that… haha
I got through all 3 years at Morse with no problems… staff was great… my senior year I worked at the Hungry Tiger… that’s our school restaurant for those who don’t know… our specialty was the Tiger Muffin…
All in all I had a great time at morse… even tho Morse has a ghetto rep… I can actually say it really isn’t that… it was a great experience and I made friends for life!

As an alumnus of Samuel F.B. Morse High School I feel I can give a nice and proper review of it.
That being said, ignore the 4 stars, it’s really worth 3.5, Unilocal really needs to allow for half star. You hear that Unilocal people! Let us do half stars!
Anyway while Morse does have a reputation for being a ghetto and gang filled school, it’s really not so bad. Recently there hasn’t been that many violent incidents at the school, notice I say «that many,» granted there has been violent acts, but not enough for people to get freaked out when you say «Oh, I go to Morse High,» and there are schools in San Diego that are worse then Morse.
The reason for the bad rep was back in the 80’s, now those were crazy times, and the school really did deserve the bad rep then, but that was then, and this is 20 years later. Now we’ve got stories of middle school kids poisoning their teacher, security guards having sex with students, and the most feared, school shootings, so a stabbing every 10 so years doesn’t sound so bad in comparison. I mean come on, with the reputation Morse has you’d think there’d be a shooting there, but there hasn’t.
A little known fact about Morse is that it has a pretty good choir, that has gone to competitions and won. There is also a string orchestra on campus that has also gone to competitions and won.
Morse is also full of smart, intelligent and great teachers. Such as Mr. Giardina, Mr. Pacis, Mr and Mrs. Idos, Mrs. O, and Mr. Keith. Not only is Morse filled up with good teachers but I personally a number of people who went to UCLA, UCI, UC Berkeley, and of course SDSU.
Morse is a ghetto school, don’t get me wrong it is, but that doesn’t mean its a bad one.
