I love coming here for beach volleyball. Though I’ve only been here twice I loved it both times. I found out about this place from the Volleyballers meetup and it is a pretty nice area to play beach volleyball. If you are a beginner be prepared to just go straight into a match. That’s how I found out. Might be intimidating at first but not so bad once you’re in several games. I find it a lot of fun, especially the fact that it is fall/winter but I still get to be on the beach. If you did not know, I came from NY — so being on the beach is a huge change than hiding at home. There also some places where you could just form your own circle and just start passing the ball to everyone to practice. For the Volleyballers meetup — we usually keep record of whose next by using chalkboards. Oh and key note if you decide to hop in and want to help clean up, don’t undo the lines for the court! Check with the organizer before because it’s going to take a long time to set up the for future games if you do it wrong. Parking I never had a problem, the two times I went, but I’m also someone that would get up near 7am to go to the beach at 8am/9am. Having a smaller car is quite helpful too. You get to see the surfers catch the waves also. Plus if you really want to you could jump into the water too. Just have to do it in the section where you could swim. Water’s pretty nice, though I bet it is quite cold right now.

I love playing volleyball on the beaches of San Diego. Although I’m not a great player but it’s about having fun in the sun.

This is a great place to play volleyball and watch the surfers catch waves. I have been playing volleyball here on Sundays for about 6 months now. The only negative thing about this spot is it can get busy and parking can be an absolute nightmare! The parking lot is shared with the OB Dog Beach and there is very minimal street parking as it is in a neighborhood. For the most part parking is OK but on a few occasions I have spent about 20 minutes driving around looking for a spot. The sand is pretty flat and sometimes nets are already up but you can always just bring your own. There are plenty of bars within walking distance to grab a drink or something to eat after some games. On Sundays we usually walk over to Wonderland to get some food and watch football.

I’m here EVERY Sunday to play volleyball with my Meetup Group. Come early for great parking and let’s get some exercise in the sand. Beginners welcome as well as the more seasoned player. We play 2’s, 3’s and 4’s.

If you get there early enough to find parking and grab a spot for your net this beach is by far my favorite to spend the day at over the more packed and pretentious Mission Beach or Pacific Beach. It has much more of a local beach feel to it as well over the other two. So If you can’t make it to Coronado for the beach then this beach plays a good second fiddle.
