I started going to Oliver over fifteen years ago. I asked a co-​worker who cut her hair because she had a great cut. She told me that Alene (Oliver’s wife) cut her hair. I needed a haircut quickly and Alene wasn’t available, but Oliver was, so that began my relationship with Oliver and Alene. Their salon was near the airport at the time and I have followed them to five different locations since then. I moved to L.A. for four years awhile ago, but still made the monthly commute back to San Diego for Oliver’s haircuts and coloring. He is nothing short of a master at what he does (cut and color). It is not uncommon for people I don’t know to ask me where I got my haircut. Besides being extremely talented professionals, both Oliver and Alene are WONDERFUL folks. I am fortunate to have found them.

Been going to Laurie for facials & waxing for 15+ years. Great prices and great service. She moved into Oliver’s Hair Design a few years ago. Great energy there. Oliver & Alene are so funny and nice. The neighborhood is really cute too.

What a fantastic place! I had my hair cut by Janean and also met Oliver and his wife. Janean gave me a fantastic haircut! I even waited several days to write the review to make sure my new hair love did not wear off. As other reviewers wrote — they really take the time to talk to you and understand the cut you want.

I’ve been getting my hair colored and cut by Oliver and Alene for about 2 years. They are great hair stylists and colorists, but their value goes far beyond that. They listen, take into consideration your lifestyle, image, and face shape when advising style. Oliver educates his clients on color options for both short term and long term. If you are wanting a specific style, he will explain what will or will not work — and if you are undecided on your style, it is fun to see what they can do for you.
I came to them with a serious color challenge. I had been covering my gray with henna for years. My hair was getting so orange I needed a way to stop using the henna. But you can’t use color over henna with risk of frying your hair. Oliver had experience with such challenges and provided a staged solution that got me out of the henna and gave me great color from my first visit.

I found Oliver’s Hair Design when I first moved down here about a year and a half ago. I have fine, curly hair and it’s difficult to find a stylist that understands how to cut my type of hair. But Oliver has done a great job and not only that, he has a good sense of humor and is a positive person. I recommend Oliver’s Hair Design to all my friends!

Yukimi has been doing my hair for about 12 or 13 years and I would not let anyone else in the world touch my hair! She always does a fabulous job. She knows what I need to do to keep my hair healthy. I recommend her and oliver’s to all my friends. Thanks Yuki!

Oliver was my hairstylist the entire time I lived in South Park. I moved to Yuma, AZ so I dont get to go back to have him as often as I would like. He is so good at dealiing with difficult hair like mine! Always made me look beautiful + I loved going to see him cause it was so much fun :) He is an amazing stylist as well as being quite entertaining… Definately recommend checking him out! He is way better than the snobby salons in La Jolla that I tried first. A++++

Oliver is hilarious! I have been getting my hair cut by him for just over 2 years. He loves to talk, and talk and talk. but it is always funny. He is incredibly adept at turning my «I kinda want it to look sorta this way» into something that makes me very happy.
I work in a very conservative environment but I love to change my hair up as often as possible — I never have had the same hair cut twice! Olive lives up to the challenge. It is also important to note, you are getting a premier educator styling your hair without the $ 400 hair cut fees!
Another plus. He is always willing to work with my insane schedule. He understands that he works in a service industry and if you are accomodating to your clients you will keep them coming back time and time again. This is why I left my last stylists and one of the top reasons I call Oliver’s home.
The salon is always clean and comfortable with a wonderful breeze coming through the windows. Think 1940’s bungalow turned salon. Intimate might be the right word, but I don’t want to imply creepy as it is not in the least.

I’ve been going to Oliver’s Hair Design since 1988! I first met the owners, Oliver and Alene when going for a walk on Market St. down town San Diego. They were so nice and I have loved them ever since.
Both of them have cut my hair over the years and no other stylist anywhere in the US I have been the past 20 years has come close to their work… I would take a modeling photo into new salons and say, «this is what my hair will do, can you cut it this way?» and they would just say, wow where did you get that done?
I have always loved their salons and Oliver is a master at making each place look awesome — haven’t been in any salon as cool as any he has ever had!
I recommend them both highly and am happy they are still on the «cutting edge» of the hair industry — always learning the newest and best methods and use of best products. They are true professionals.

I received haircuts from Oliver for 15 years before moving out of San Diego. While I have not been to his present location, I have been to many of his salon’s over the years and they have always been among the nicest salon’s I have been visited. I was always treated like a king, (obviously that is why I went for so many years) and always walked out with a quality product. Oliver is amazing, I am sorry that he will not move up to Oregon.

I started taking my 14 year old daughter to Yukimi after my hair stylist friend moved out of town. My daughter’s got really thick hair and a lot of it. Very few people can thin out her hair correctly — and make her hair look so darn cute! Yukimi is our girl. After a few visits to her I decided to have her cut my hair as well. I have not been disappointed! The last time I went to her I asked her to just do something new. Away she went with her little scissors and voila! I love my do.
I have never had Oliver do my hair but like the reviewer before me, I have to agree, he does an excellent job as well — from what I have seen on other customers.
The salon is very nice and clean. Both Yuki and Oliver are very hospitable. I love going in there. Definately reccomend this place!!!

Now — this place rocks and Yukimi here is amazing. Her scissor skills are superlative and she’s a wizard with color that won’t damage.
Oliver does great work too, as witnessed by the gorgeous guys and gals exiting after he has his way.
This salon is cool, laid back, an oasis of awesome.
