Had my bike looked at by him last week so far very good. He fixed handle bar wraps, bent chain assembly. Quick turnaround decent price. Would definitely recommend. Only downside was basement location.

Brought my hybrid bike in for a much needed tune up. The owner did a fantastic job, cleaned out all the built up dust from my gears, adjusted my breaks, and wheel alignment with a day turnaround. He guarantees his work and was extremely professional. I’ll continue to bring both my bikes here for all my future needs! Highly recommend and the price is very reasonable. Location has changed: located down the stairs right by the Southern Hotel on 6th; signs clearly mark the shop once you are by the hotel.

It’s been a while since I have been so upset with someone as I was with the guy that owns/runs this place. My brother was in town in December and wanted a bike. We went there got a cheap one and everything was fine. As we were chatting with the guy he said he would buy back the bike after 30 days. We didn’t ask about it but he offered it. Then he said just to call him within 24 hrs and he would be ready for it. I told him I was moving out of town and that would be great. Like I said, he suggested it and I thought ok, that sounds like a good plan. 4 weeks later I call him and first he asks me why I’m calling his cell phone(I don’t know! You gave me that number), then he says he actually needs a week not 24 hrs(but kind of changes his mind mid speech, so weird), and then just says he can’t do it. I honestly didn’t care about the $ 65 he offered(when we first talked), I just thought the idea of recycling the bike was good since I didn’t need it and didn’t want to sell it myself. He made me feel like I was asking him for his first born and this type of favor was not one he could do. I didn’t ask for a favor! I was just doing what he suggested… But whatever, I hanged up the phone and just let it go. Then about 30 mins late he calls me and leaves me a message as if we never talked before saying that he would have the money ready the next day. I was so confused and irritated… Anyways, long story short, this place will get you a cheap bike. But expect nothing from this place other than that– even if he promises it to you(without you even asking about it). On a happy note I sold that bike on Craigslist for way more– so the joke is on him now…

Cool little shop in downtown. Was looking for a 2nd hand bike, and Felipe set me up with exactly what I needed. Really enjoyed chatting with him as well. It’s clear that Felipe ‘lives bikes’ and knows his bikes. Whether you need a repair or a 2nd hand bike, it’s a great place to go.

I took my unicycle in to have the seat stem cut down because my legs were too short to reach the pedals. I called before hand and let him know that I wasn’t sure if I could make it before closing. I ride in a car pool after work and sometimes my ride runs late. Felipe was very accommodating and said that he would wait up if I was running behind. He was able to cut it down to size right then and there and I was able to take it home immediately. I had gone to another bike shop location before this and had a bad experience– they told me it would take at least a week or two to do the job that Felipe did in less than 5 minutes for around 5 bucks. My boyfriend might even take his old rusted bike in to have it restored. Once you find a good bike shop, you wanna stick with it. Overall, I had a good experience with this shop– the customer service was top-notch, the owner seemed very knowledgeable and passionate about his business, and I would recommend!

I could not dodge a pothole on 5th Ave. downtown and had a nasty crash. 5th rates right up there as is one of San Diego’s most potted streets, at least on the right where you bike. The crash bent my dérailleur hanger big time and could barely get my wheel off. I was about to pack it in and take a cab home when someone told me about Pennyfarthing’s bike store on C street. Wow, what service! Felipe dropped what he was doing, straighten the frame, fixed the chain and adjusted everything. I am back on the street(being more alert for potholes) in about 15 minutes. Very reasonable price too. Great to have an old style bike store downtown.

After owning and wrenching on several bikes within a short period of time, I have had enough insight to recognize that newer bikes dont always mean better. The pennyfarthing dude seems like a nice honest guy who knows his shit. Go here for maintenance if you live nearby. Go here to check out his historic bike collection. Cool place, cool shop, cool dude.

I bought a bike from the owner/operator of this shop a few years back. I’ve been very happy with the bike and I know I got a good deal. He’s a very knowledgeable and helpful guy who will go out of his way to make sure you’re happy. I’ve been to countless bike shops… some good, some just OK and some I’ll never give my business to again. This is a great little shop run by a solid guy. I do recommend this shop! Thanks for all you help Felipe!!!

I had two people recommend that I take my bike into Pennyfarthings. But I’m a Unilocal fanatic and I never go anywhere new anymore without checking out the Unilocal ratings first. Unfortunately, this place only had one previous review and it’s bad. Uh oh. I decided that two friend’s opinions outranked an anonymous one on the web, so I would give it a shot(but was still a bit nervous). I always take my bike to the Trek Superstore for work. But lately they haven’t been fixing it like I want and some of the repair guys were contradicting each other’s opinions on basic stuff. I haven’t been happy. So I tried Pennyfarthing. Trek store was quoting me $ 150 for replacing various parts and I was charged $ 93 at Pennyfarthing for the same thing. Sweet. He was a nice guy and did good work. He also saw that the Trek store was adjusting my cables incorrectly and he re-tuned them. Oh yeah — he also did everything on the same day I brought it in. Last time I was at Trek they told me it would be one week for repairs and I ended up getting in two weeks(only after harassing them about how long I’ve been waiting on it). I’ll be going back to Pennyfarthing.
