Booked a private lesson for my boyfriends birthday & wasn’t sure what to expect. Bob was extremely welcoming & both him & Gayla were patient and thorough with their instruction! It’s definitely harder than you think and I can understand how it can become addictive especially once you get used to using those muscles correctly!

I have been waiting for the new 2016 Mathews Bows to arrive and there is no better place to purchase than Performance Archery in San Diego. This was the first time at his new location and I was very impressed with the large indoor shooting range and the variety of products that he offers. Right when you walk in the floor is spacious and very inviting. He carries a complete line of bows and accessories that are laid out in an organized fashion. I have purchased a few bows from Bob Fromme throughout the years and his knowledge and selection has always exceeded my expectations. I live over a hour away and pass a few bow shops, but none of them have the inventory and technical expertise as does Bob and his staff. After shooting the Mathews Halon I was hooked. The bow was smooth and fast. After a few minutes, I was shooting the spot at 20yds.
The complete staff was very helpful in setting up my bow and what accessories I needed to add to get me ready for the hunting season. I would definitely recommend Performance Archery for all bow hunting needs!

Last November, I placed an order for a recurve bow as a gift to my wife for Christmas. I was assured that it would arrive well before Christmas. Unfortunately this did not happen. With less than a week prior to Christmas, I did not know what to do. I contacted and spoke to the manager, Thane. He researched the issue and discovered what I ordered was not available. Thane went out of his way to find me a better recurve bow at a reasonable price. Thane worked diligently and found me the right bow for my wife, ordered it and had it shipped overnight to Performance Archery. When I walked in to pick up the bow, he was assembling the bow for me and checking it that it was up to specs. I can’t thank Thane enough for the hard work and professionalism I received and ensured that my wife received her Christmas gift on time. She loved the bow and is ever thankful. The best archery store in San Diego hands down. Not only do they have an incredibly diverse and well stocked supply of archery equipment, but they also are the best institution for all forms of archery instruction and education. Whether you’re an experienced Bowhunter searching for professional bow tuning services or have only ever experienced archery vicariously through Katniss Everdeen, performance archery has fit you covered. When I first came to performance, I walked in an hour before close determined to leave with a new bow. Despite having cash in hand, the bow experts at performance archery wouldn’t take my money until they has provided me with every bit of information I needed in order to find a bow that was just right for me. I came back the following day and they spent hours one-​on-​one assisting me with my purchase. A year and several new bows later, I whole heartedly recommend performance archery to every archer I encounter. My family and I have been going to Performance Archery since January 2015 when we started researching compound bows for our 11yr old son. Our first interaction was with Gayla. She was extremely helpful. She showed us a number of options and explained the differences between them.
Gayla went over safety, measured his draw length, and had all the bows adjusted to fit.
She then took us into the range where our son was able to test out each of the bows he was interested in. After about 45 minutes, our son selected the bow that felt and shot best.
If that’s not great customer service, I don’t know what is!
We were so impressed with this shop and the people who work there that we went back there a month later to purchase a bow for myself. Again, the staff at Performance Archery provided the same high level of customer service we experienced the first time.
We have since been back several times to upgrade accessories and have always been treated courteously, even when the shop is busy.
Buying a bow is a very personal thing. It’s not a cookie cutter item that you can be quickly purchased. Bob and his crew, first and foremost, want to make sure you can handle your selection safely. Second, your selection has to be measured and adjusted to YOU.
BE PATIENT! Archery in itself requires a great deal of patience and so should the very personal process of having your selection and/​or accessories adjusted to your liking.

Went in expecting to buy a release for my Elite Synergy and worked initially with Montel then Bob. Wow. First off Montel helped me with reviewing the Trufire Hardcore and the Carter, Releases. I liked the Trufire. But during the evaluation process, they (Bob) helped me sight my bow in, adjusted my peep, and just gave me great advice on archery fundamentals.
Great staff and service, well worth your $$ to go there and purchase for the sport along with the support. Invaluable in my opinion in this kind of sport and the internet junkies.

Devin, Montel, Gayla, and Bob are so welcoming, kind, and helpful! I come here for their indoor indoor range when I don’t feel like driving from UTC to Balboa Park (Outdoor Archery Range). It is $ 8/​hr; you come in, find the clip board, sign in your name and time you start. When you are done, fill out the time you end. It is based on honor system — you tell them at the cashier how long you’ve been shooting.
I come here just for their excellent 20yard indoor range to shoot my Samick Sage Recurve Bow, but I quickly find everything I need for archery at a very affordable/​fair price. Devin even replaced my bow strings since I’m a frequent customer.
This indoor archery range is truly a gem if you live in or near the golden triangle. I will continue to show my support for Performance Archery because they are so friendly and professional.

After recieving two shooting tips from the owner of Performance Archery my wife nailed two bullseyes. Her arrows piggy backed each other. We highly recommend classes and instruction from Performance Archery.

I decided to update my review for two reasons: 1.) It has been about 2 years since my original review. And 2.) they have moved to a new facility on MIralani Dr.
The new Performance Archery facility is even better than the last. The Pro Shop is now huge and they have put that extra space to use by stocking it full of EVERYTHING! If you’re looking to let a few arrows fly. the attached, indoor range has a ton of lanes (16, I think). The space is well lit and has plenty of space behind the line so i’m not bumping into shooters while going to an open lane. They even have a section of the shop devoted to the repair and maintenance of bows and arrows.

I originally went to sign up for the archery class held here, as I was new to archery and wanted to fire a few arrows and learn proper form and safety before making my purchase.
Phaen, the store manager, talked to me for a bit to really get a feel for what type of bow would suit my needs and interest best before we even got a bow in my hand. They are all about what is best for you and not what they want to sell. Phaen spent a few hours basically giving me a 1 on 1 coaching session teaching me the basics of form, safety, etc. as I tried maybe half a dozen different bows. He is awesome! Asking me lots of relevant questions and kindly reminding me when my amateur form would deviate from his instruction. He also pointed out the differences in the different bows such as single cam, brace height, axle to axle length… things a new shooter may not immediately notice but should be brought to attention when making a decision on which to buy. I made my decision about what to purchase and couldn’t be happier with both the product and the overall experience.
Each time I return to use the indoor range, the team at Performance Archery continues to give top notch service even after the sale. I receive the same great attitude when I purchase a $ 10 Peep Sight as I did when I spent much more on my bow. In conclusion: I am very happy to find such a quality establishment and will definitely continue my business with Performance Archery for all my archery needs. I highly recommend you do to. I rarely write reviews but the owner and staff at Performance Archery are outstanding! I shopped around and was told this was the «Real Deal» Lots of equipment, great inventory and a new facility that is really top tier. The staff are hunters and really take their time to inform you on what’s best for you as an Individual, either hunter or strictly a target shooter. I recently made a rookie mistake with my bow and the staff actually improved my bow as well as repair it. Who does that? Great guys to deal with are Devin, Yosh, Phaen and Montel. Gala is a gem and Bob is almost a Mensch (wink) this is the place to go. Thanks Gents

Top notch, professional, knowledgeable and a huge selection of bows and hunting accessories. Definitely the # 1 shop in San Diego county and I’ve been to all of them. All staff are helpful and invested in helping each customer find the best bow and equipment. They have lessons, a league and a brand new state-​of-​the-​art facility.
