I took the pizza and focaccia cooking class. It was such a fun time! Stefan was a fabulous instructor. I learned so much and had the best time.

We had a cooking class today-today’s class was on Pizza & Focaccia. We had so much fun. We can’t wait to book another. We were greeted and offered code/cappuccino. This class provided an overview on ingredients. What is best used and how to assemble. The class was slated to end around noon… but, we were lucky and stayed until 1:30p. The class was interesting and informative. You could feel comfortable cooking a class by yourself– the students were nice, fun, easygoing, excited to see(& eat!!!) the end products. We also learned about the glass of wine that was included. They gave us focaccia & pizza to take home. Whoever wanted the 00 flour could take some of that home too! Was such fun! Perfect way to start the day.

Wonderful old remodeled cottage with patio in the heart of the village. Our made from scratch Italian specialty dinners were delicious. Attentive service with semi open kitchen makes a nice ambiance. Will make this a regular stop.

A friend suggested having lunch on a Saturday there. It was eight of us, excellent food, presentation was beautiful and so was the food. Our waiter was good. We enjoyed our first experience and I would like to go back and take my family.

Dinner at Piazza 1909 on Fay Avenue La Jolla is a delight, like a trip to Italy without the jet lag! We’ll be back! Insalata caprese! Cheese and Salame Antipasti board! Ahi tuna stack, bolonese to die for, calamari, and then you can go see a movie at the Lot!!!

Had a wonderful meal here with my mom just after the Thanksgiving holiday. They have done a full renovation here as before it was a small sushi place. Her and I ate inside and it was a very nice setting. The food was wonderful. We got meatballs, tomato caprese and a wonderful main course. The service was quick and the staff was wonderful(especially our server that had a wonderful smile). There seemed to be a lot of staff at the restaurant and as someone in the business, I would rather see a little more efficiency and not so many staff around bleeding the clock on the owner. But I think they’re just starting out. They have cooking classes here and I’m looking forward to checking one out sometime! Welcome to La Jolla!

The best thing that could’ve happened was that cottage restaurant had an hour wait so we walked on over to Piazza. Found this hidden gem owned and operated by an Italian family and crew. The food is exceptionally fresh & tasty. The owner Roberta & her husband whose the chef are a dynamic duo. Best of luck to your business always.

My husband and I have walked by Piazza 1909 a number of times and when his parents were in town, they mentioned they wanted Italian, so we opted to try them out. They have a huge, heated, dog friendly patio, so it was perfect for an early dinner. The food, service, and atmosphere were all fantastic… so good that we went there a couple days later to try out their brunch. For dinner, we gnocchi al gorgonzola and it was heavenly. Their pasta is made fresh and the gnocchi had just the right amount of gorgonzola and walnuts. The cream sauce was perfect. My husband had the spaghetti e polpette and he really enjoyed that as well. When we were ordering, since we had our dog, they asked if he wanted a polpette as well. We said sure(thinking it was just going to be a meatball). Little did we know, it was going to be a big bowl of meatballs(dry of course, no sauce) and broccoli! He devoured the whole bowl and was one happy dog! My in-laws had the Tagliatelle alla Bolignese and the farro salad and both really enjoyed their meals. For appetizers, we had a prosciutto and persimmon dish and caprese and really enjoyed those as well. They had a great choice of wines as well. The service was outstanding with our server checking on us often. Even the chef came out to make sure that our dog was happy with his meal! For brunch, I had the eggs benedict and opted for it on a croissant. I thought it was good, but I would say their Italian dishes are really where they shine. My husband had the speck panini and enjoyed that. Pricing seemed reasonable for both brunch and dinner, but I really thought the portion sizes were much better at dinner. I’d highly recommend checking out Piazza 1909 for dinner… I’m actually going again tonight!

We loved our dinner at Piazza 1909. Where to begin? The food is fresh, fabulous and layered with flavors. We asked for the chefs choice rather than deciding for ourselves. Stefano did not disappoint. We started with a salad that I can’t even describe in detail because there was so much detail. The persimmons were a nice touch As was the prosciutto and fresh mozzarella. We also had a baby pizza with clams, mussels and shrimp. Great flavor and perfect crust. We had a seafood small plate with octopus(my husband said it was the best he ever had) and shrimp. We had truffle polenta with filet mignon. Another perfect dish. Oh and before that we had the spinach gnocchi. Perfection for sure. You might be thinking we ate a lot but not really, they were small plates that allowed us to try many wonderful dishes. Our dinner was paired with wonderful California and Tuscan wines. And the tiramisu at the end was great. A dessert that would seem ordinary was anything but. Now for the setting. You can see the patio from the street but what you can’t see are the patios surrounding the restaurant. We were in the back patio with the perfect combination of weather(a little rain) and plenty of heaters to make it cozy. And the service was superb. We are so happy that Stefano and Roberta are back. This is the third restaurant we have followed them too. We will be back!

The Little Cottage had a 45 minute wait so my friends and I decided to go across the street to Piazza 1909, which was nearly empty for brunch on a Saturday afternoon. The set up, layout, and décor of the restaurant are actually really nice. I’m confused as to why Piazza 1909 was so empty… it was kinda sad. The service was decent. And the best part had to be the food. You could really taste the high quality ingredients in their dishes. I got the Italian sausage with scrambled eggs dish and it was wonderful. Would definitely recommend it! By the end of or meal, the front of the restaurant no longer had empty tables(lines and the little cottage appear to be overexposed).

Lovely little Italian just a couple blocks off the Prospect strip. Had a November meal here and couldn’t be more delighted by service, ambiance and(especially) the food. Had a quiet table for two out front on the(puppy friendly) patio. There was a slight chill to the air, but plenty of space heaters to eliminate that problem quickly. Service, by cool Italiano, Daniel, was brisk but not rushed or intrusive. As were were each having fairly heavy pastas for dinner we skipped mains, but I did asked for help choosing our wine. I asked his opinion about two bottles, but he immediately recommended a third, more expensive bottle. That could have been a red flag — but after he promised«if you don’t like it, I’ll drink it,» and after the cork was popped and we were blown away by the unique Arneis wine, we knew he helped us make the right decision. We had the lasagne and the linguini clams. Both were excellent, but the lasagne was the table favorite for somehow coming across as «light and airy» even though it was pasta with a meaty red sauce! Must have been the delicate layers of pasta, the ricotta and the delicious bechamel sauce that pulled it off. It’s not a «cheap Italian» by any means, but for this quality of food it isn’t overpriced by a penny either. Mangia!

Very welcoming feeling, non-pretentious vibe. Family run and everyone was super cool! We went on Halloween night, and the entire staff was dressed up, they had a great sense of humor. Not to mention, the food was fabulous. They brought out a free sampler for us to taste. we ordered a pizza and a chicken dish. We enjoyed the watching fresh pasta being made out on the deck(which by the way, since it was Halloween, the chef [maybe the owner?] was dressed as a clown. We loved it) We will be back!

What a disappointment. We came here because the line at the cottage was over an hour, and that was a big mistake. We ordered the california omelet, eggs benedict and ricotta blueberry pancakes. The entire service, from getting our waters to taking our orders took a long time. But getting our food took over 40 minutes. I’m pretty sure they got our orders wrong and had to re-place them because tables who came well after us got their food first. It would have been nice to let us know if something like this happened, instead of having us wait without an explanation for such a long time. And the food was very sub-par. Maybe because the wait was so long? But the blueberry pancakes were literally 3 pancakes with a couple of blueberries on top of them, and they forgot the avocados in my omelet, and when I informed the waiter, he came back with a plate of sliced unripe avocados. And what was really annoying was his comment, «See, aren’t you guys happy now that you got your food?» Um, no. In fact, unhappier than before we got our food.

We stumbled on this place when the wait at The Cottage was about an hour. I’m glad that we ended here. Everything about this restaurant was great. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The food was absolutely fresh and delicious. The prices were very reasonable. Although the brunch menu looked great, I opted for the lunch menu. I had the spaghettini vongole. The pasta was fresh and made in house. The sauce was light and flavorful, and the cappuccino was great as well. I will definitely be back to give the breakfast and dinner menu a try.

Myself, wife and my son recently ate at Chef Stephano’s new restaurant on Fay Street in La Jolla on a Thursday night. The food was very fresh and everything was prepared to order. We started with appetizer of delicately fried calamari, artichoke and zucchini followed by eggplant wrapped risotto. Our main courses consisted of fettuccine with white truffle, homemade ravioli and homemade gnocchi. Everything was delicious and we enjoyed our meal with a bottle of Brunello. We then doubled back for brunch on both Sunday and on Labor Day. Great omelettes, frittata and ricotta pancakes. Most of the dining is outside but the atmosphere and staff are warm and inviting. Ask for Diego to serve you.

Moving over from a at Bottega Americano in East Village, head Chef Stefano has no started his eatery, Piazza 1909, in La Jolla. They are starting with lunch only, but soon will be adding brunch and dinner. I came it had him make me a Cotto & Funghi which included mozzarella, a light tomato sauce,“Cotto” ham or «Prosciutto Cotto.» and mushrooms for $ 11. The pizza is made for 00 Caputo flour and the pizza come in an elongated shape. The pizza was a handsome pie with the freshly sliced Parma laid right on top as the pizza came out of the oven. The Parma was flavorful from its low salt boiling, and had a very delicate texture. The tomato sauce was very subtle on the pizza, but eaten along, it had a mild semi sweet flavor with a bit of acidity. I liked it because it did not overwhelm the pizza. The mushrooms, I believe were baby portobellos or Crimini, Italian Brown mushrooms which were of the fresh variety and tasty. The crust of the pizza was great. The well refined Caputo flour gave the crust a very soft feel with just enough chew to make the pizza very enjoyable to eat. Even the outer crust was very soft and even had a slight crunch. The only issue I had was that the inner center was a little underdone and was doughy. Also, I would of liked of seen a little more fresh mozzarella on the pizza, which was very good. Everybody was very nice and hospitable. The place has a very nice outside patio and comfortable inside. I look forward to trying their weekend brunch in the near future.
