The rating for this store is grossly inaccurate, and to see why just read some of the reviews and you’ll see most of the lackluster ratings come from people who have never even visited the store.
Let’s get a few things straight: Online = online. Store = store. We good? If you dislike what FedEx charges for shipping, this is just me but I might consider reviewing FedEx. Another reviewer alleges the manager wouldn’t consider a price-​match. Last I checked Point Loma Outfitters was NOT Wal-​Mart. This store is for people who love sailing and the outdoors and one thing we all have in common is we did not take up these hobbies to save money. If you want to wear what the pros wear, you are going to pay for it. If you want Russell brand, again, go to Wal-​Mart.
Most importantly, PLO is more a sailing store than an outdoors store. It should not be ranked against big-​box outdoor chains. Sailing is clearly the specialty. I happen to really like SLAM gear, and you can find a lot here. Patagonia is also a really good USA brand, and my wife has found a few really good deals in the back sale room (she has a thing for socks, I dunno).
Typically I would order a lot of this stuff online, but finding this place makes it more fun to grab in person. I really like locally owned stores run by people who know what the heck they’re selling. What’s unfortunate is the clientele you will see in here are pretty much in the clouds, and cannot be bothered to stop by and post something nice to help the store. Well, here’s a favorable review from one of the common folk who happens to value quality outdoor fashion and doesn’t mind paying for it: Point Loma Outfitters does a rockin’ good job and its longevity isn’t going to be swayed by bargain hunters.

I wanted to order a $ 29 dollar hat, while expensive, is still the same price offered everywhere else. However, the problem came when I went to checkout and realized that the CHEAPEST option for shipping was approx. $ 16 USD. That means the cost to ship a hat was more than half the cost of the hat itself. There is no justification in doing that. We all know what it costs to ship something via FedEx and when we see you are charging 3X as much, we see through it.

this is basically a patagonia store, which makes it pretty awesome. cant complain about anything here really… staff has always been really nice and helpful with any questions, and they typically have a large sale section too with lots of fun stuff.

I love, love, love this place. First, Patagonia clothes are some of the finest clothes made. Made in the US, with fantastic materials. They have a great selection of clothes for Men, Women and children. But here is the secret, the sale room in the back. You can get some fabulous clothes in there for discounted rates. I am in process right now of changing out all of my socks for patagonia socks. The sales staff rocks there, too. Tell them what you are looking for and they will lead the way!

The owner’s response is not accurate. Before I left the store, I told the associate that I was shocked that the owner did not want to come speak with me, and that I felt my only recourse was to write about my experience on Unilocal so other customers could be aware of the owner’s business practices. This is far from «terrorism».

A great outdoor clothing store in Liberty Station that sells some great clothing lines like Patagonia, Musto, SLAM, Kaenon and more. I went for some Capilene shirts and they had a great selection. Plus I got a pair of the new SLAM Code 1 sailing shoes. These shoes are comfortable and have this really cool heal that helps with balance control on sloping services like a boat. Thing is these shoes were high quality and less than $ 90.
Thank good there is a store like this in San Diego. Much better than any chain store and I think a much better selection.
