Clearly with the name change they didn’t improve things operationally. Valet asked me to get my ticket validated at the bar to which the bartender(I like to call her«Hero») went and got a Manager to try to charge me $ 43. Here’s a tip: Don’t let your Valet take my keys and instruct me to validate my ticket if you are too cheap to honor it. The ambience of this place looks crappy too. Full of people that belong in LA. You know, a bunch of overdressed/overcompensating types. Kind of like the bartender, a hard 5 on her best day.

Renaissance San Diego Downtown which replaced The W Hotel, is a nice, upscale hotel in between Gaslamp and Little Italy. TIP: Hotel parking is with valet parking for $ 42, but super close nearby you can park nearby a block away and spend a fraction of the cost and park for only $ 16. The check-in process was pretty easy and the lobby is beautiful and eye catching with modern furniture and a neat ambiance by the bar. They also have refreshing fruit infused water near the check-in. I stayed on the 9th floor and the room was very clean, and the décor was fresh! I loved it and they also have a mini-bar fridge so no need to go on an alcohol run if you forgot any, you have it available at your leisure for purchase. When staying here you are paying for«Marriott Renaissance» luxury for your hotel and all the amenities inside your room and everywhere else, but also location, location, location! Easy walk if you want to get your cardio on and go into Gaslamp and venture into East Village or even closer Little Italy. Perfect, comfy hotel for a little exploration around the area with a trendy appeal. 4.5 Stars :)

This used to be the W hotel so don’t be fooled Unilocalers! I’m quite upset with this hotel. The staff there is untrustworthy. As a wedding present my father in-law got us a room there. My mother had the wonderful idea of doing wedding mad libs a funny way of giving us newlyweds some advice. Its the end of the night and we head to the W with mad libs in hand(actually in a box) about 75 of them. Now its morning we pack up and have breakfast. The only reason this place deserves one star is because the food was good. Long story short we forget the mad libs didn’t even get to read them. Here’s where the shady staff comes in. I call the next day and say oh no please tell me you have our mad libs we stayed just the other night in this room, they call back and say we have them but we found them in another room. I say that’s weird but great we are going on our honeymoon can I pick them up when we get back the supervisor says yes. We get back from our honeymoon, we literally get off the plane and drive to the hotel I get the box and we have two mad libs inside! TWO ! I felt crushed! I didn’t even get to read them all or save any I felt were hilarious and priceless! The staff mishandled pieces of paper imagine how they will handle your possessions if left behind. Who takes personalized, hand written letters! I feel robbed and the management did nothing. I will never stay here again and neither will my family or friends who attended my wedding. Advice to the manger get a check on your staff because they’re losing you business!!!

I stayed here in the first motion to change it over. Some interesting things happened that you can gleam at in my previous w review however I applaud the company for a quick conversion after their announcement of buying the w. Congratulations!

I stayed here overnight just one night and I was impressed at the retro hip decorative room. It had a chalk board in the room that you can doodle on. The shower was nice, but I wished it had a full glass enclosure. I was in a regular king bed high floor. I definitely will stay here again. It’s close to gaslamp and other fun night places. Next time I’d like to check out the bar and pool.
