Revolution Tacos & Beer

I couldn’t find this place! i went searching downtown and did not see it, is it still in business? i had a taco from there a few years back and have been craving one ever since but i cant find it now –_–

I’ve walked by many times and never thought to come in until today. Why? The place looks kinda shady with the neon lights and what made it worse was that usually shady mexican food joints are the best but this one seemed to be empty most days. Red flag, right?
Actually, no. I feel bad that they’ve got some pretty decent food but a couple factors are driving people away.
1. Neon lights have got to go. You have a pretty cool logo. Brand the crap out of it and make it look cool enough for bums to not even think about stepping foot in there to use your restroom! It’s attracting the wrong crowd.
2. Prices. Lunch time is all about «Where can I get good food on the cheap?!» Your prices are $ 2 too high (on ever item) for Mexican food that gets served on styrofoam.
3. Bar? Would be cool if you had more than ONE beer on tap. It’s a sad looking bar at this point so maybe you should do away with it. It also is not a swanky enough place to attract the happy hour crowd either.
4. OPEN SALSA BAR!!! Mexican food is all about the endless supply of salsa because we drink that shiz! No more tiny containers! I feel limited.
I had the rolled tacos, beef taco with rice and beans + med. drink = $ 13. The warm chips were nice, the rice and beans were perfect and the food was actually pretty decent. I wish more people would give them a try but I also think they need to revamp things a bit to get more foot traffic in. So many people walk by, hesitate for a while and eventually walk away.

Why, why, why do I go back to places when I know the food will be bad? Well, in my defense, last time I went here, the food was bad, but the chips were good. And I was going primarily for some chips to go with my cevice. But this time, the chips were bad, too. They wouldn’t sell me a bag of chips on its own — I had to buy an item from the menu and it came on the side, so I got a carne asada taco. It was terrible — greasy, not good flavor, and the chips had an awful rancid taste; I didn’t feel well afterward. Needless to say, I won’t be going back.

Came here for lunch. There wasn’t many people in here, so I wasn’t sure if the food was good, but my coworkers insisted. I ordered a carnita taco. It was really good. Seriously, I could’ve had another one. The brown salsa was tangy and fit perfectly with my taco. The people working there were casual and friendly. A crack-​head casually walked in for a free drink fill-​up while we were eating and the owner blocked the soda fountain. She ranted and raved and said she would never advertise for the restaurant. ;p

After a night downtown I was hesitant to walk in the opposite direction of where I parked (10^th & J), but my friends assured me that they make the best California burritos (a double negative because that isn’t my favorite burrito). But, the peer pressure prevailed and we continued to the dark side of the Gaslamp.
Reaction of shock when I saw an actual bar in a taco shop! But, that soon passed when I saw the traditional register & open kitchen.
Pleasant delight was my next reaction by the music choice playing (friends actually got up and danced — even one of the cooks joined in. already posted on You Tube of course!)
Finally, love at first sight with the California burrito — which was probably gone in 60 seconds! Perfect amount of everything — guacamole, sour cream, crispy fries and diced carne asada. I actually cut mine in half to get to that «money» part of a burrito my friends kept telling me about. I didn’t try the traditional red hot sauce — but I did try their tamarind based sauce and it was delicious.
It was a perfect ending to a perfect night — glad we got out of there before the club crew stumbled in. But, I am jealous though, because I did hear that the California burritos are even better after the cook gets his boogie on!

This place is in the same exact spot as Broadway Tacos was. I didn’t realize it wasn’t Broadway Tacos anymore until I walked in and saw they had added a bar. They don’t have liquor though, just beer and wine. Since it became a new place, I’ve been there twice. First time I got a California burrito with guacamole, it was about $ 6 – 7 so not bad, but it was HUGE! It was also pretty good, but they need to mix everything up, as I got tired of biting one side of the burrito for meat, the middle for fries, and the other side for guacamole and sour cream. The second time, I went with a friend around 11pm after getting a few drinks. My friend got a burrito, I can’t remember what kind, but it was huge and good too. I just ordered some chips and guacamole for under $ 4. When I opened up my food when I got home, I was AMAZED by how much guacamole they gave me. It was literally half of one of those large styrofoam containers, the other half chips. Unless you piled on the guacamole an inch thick on each and every chip, you have a ton of guac left over. I had enough for a couple more meals for when I cooked up some carne asada myself and some snacks of chips. I’m not sure if they always give that much guacamole, but if they do, I’ll definitely get those chips and guacamole if I ever need guacamole! I’ll definitely be back for another burrito too!
