This stuff is addicting and I worked at DQ when I was a teenager. I love the custard sadly no one never has the low calorie option ever in stock. This is gluten free so are 95% of the Italian Ices’s, my favorite is the Dark Cherry, actually its the only one I get. I love the Gelati. I think for the large gelato should be layered custard, italian ice, custard, italian ice, then custard again. when i mentioned this the guy working tried to say that, that was impossible as there is barely a mark up on the product. he dint know I worked in the industry for 4 years, and I know for a fact that that is BS. Don’t lie, don’t act like you know it all, just smile and nod! he’s lucky this stuff is so good.

If you are looking for a quick cold, sweet treat, this is the place. They have a variety of different flavors on any given day, including a sugar free option if that’s what you’re into. There is an option to get both the custard and flavored ice together– GELATI. I prefer just the ice, but of course everyone is different. Give them a try, you’ll be glad you did. The employees are great as well.

We stopped in for dessert on a weeknight and no one was in the store. We got to sample a couple items and ask questions regarding the products. I ended up getting the Blendini(half chocolate custard) and half ice(cookies and crème). Surprisingly, the mix was really good! Just be mindful which flavors you decide to mix and match as it may not be the most ideal flavors! Ria was the lady who helped us and she was super nice and patient with all our questions. This Rita’s is in a weird location off Camino Ruiz. Next to a liquor store? Not the best and ideal place that is kid friendly! Look for coupons in our mailers — BOGO!!!

Prelims: nicely light store, with pretty decent seating, tons of parking, and a very friendly service lady in the front that was more than willing to explain the concepts of this place to me. Located next to a produce store, Rita’s has good service combined with some decent prices and with a very friendly atmosphere. Expect to some $ 3 – 8 when you come. I got the custard and mango ice. The custard is similar in texture and flavor to ice cream, but more creamy and egg-y; it’s got that richness to it just puts it a little over the top and makes the flavor that much smoother and richer than simple ice cream. Combined with a delicious mango Italian ice, the vanilla custard was a delicious one-two punch that delivered some serious knockout power to my taste buds. I thoroughly enjoyed it and even after I left it in the freezer at home for while, it retained it’s gloriously soft and rich texture, instead of hardening up as soft serve ice cream tends to do. I also got the Italian ice(mint choco chip flavor). The Italian ice is akin to snow cones but with a serious upgrade. It has a very nice soft texture that reminds you that it’s pretty much flavored ice, but with chocolate chips sprinkled throughout the entire ice, and even the smaller size was more than enough of a portion size to make a solid dessert. TL;DR Good dessert place; upgraded ice cream and snow-cones

Amazing customer service! I love the frozen custard and it reminds me of the wonderfulness of ice cream but better! Since it is so rich, a small size satisfies me! Ria gives great customer service and she is always there in the evenings when I am there! I like the Gelati but I prefer the custard by itself. Chocolate is delicious! I highly recommend!

Found this while I was lost but I’m glad Siri took me here. It was meant to be! I am a sucker for creamy desserts and the custard ice cream hit me bullseye. The first time I was here, I tried the mango ice with the custard ice cream and the second time I had the blood orange. I love the blood orange ! It’s very refreshing — sweet and tangy. I’m probably going to become a regular lol

I gotta be honest! I only come when I have coupon. I think Rita’s is over priced!!! I had a buy one get one free regular custard and ice thing. I still spent $ 4, so I would have spent $ 8 if I didn’t have the coupon. To me that isn’t worth it? I mean half of it is ICE! Anyways, if they lowered their prices a tad then maybe they would get more business. I’m not cheap, but I could get a lot more deserts with $ 4 than a small size of ice with custard :/ But the ice flavors are goooooodd!!! I love the cotton candy one! And I like how they ask which flavors you would like to try! Plus a clean location with indoor and outdoor setting with a bathroom inside! Nice people! And good ice! Buttttt the price got me on the fence

I came here today for the free regular size Italian Ice to celebrate back to school. I am actually very impressed with the excellent customer service they provided. Everyone was so welcoming and willing to help, despite the fact that the place was packed with the line going out the door. I was taking mine to go so I asked for the lid and tray and other things at separate times and the the poor girl had to keep going back and forth to provide me with them. However, she was patient and made sure that I had everything that I needed, including new clean spoons since I had to take out the ones that were already stuck in in order to put the lids on them. She was willing to go out of her way to make sure that I had everything I needed, without me asking, before she moved on to the next customer, which was something that I really appreciated. The consistency of the italian ice is somewhat similar to 7 – 11 Slurpees, maybe a little bit more solid, like snow. I’ve tried the Georgia Peach, Cotton Candy, Swedish Fish, and Pink Lemonade flavors. They are all amazing and taste EXACTLY like the real things. If you need something cold to relieve yourself from the summer heat, then I would recommend coming here.

I still like Rita’s but I think it’s too rich for me. Guess it’ll have to be a treat for me less often =(I came in most recently to buy the to go custard sandwiches. Bought two packs and was surprised to spend 17 dollars… what?! I mean… they are lucky this stuff is good! It’s probably a good thing. Being lactose intolerant the custard is borderline dangerous and even if i weren’t obesity and addiction to sugar is a real thing. But it speaks for itself that I still come back from time to time right?

Always my go-to place when I’m in need of something cold and icy in my system. Love this place! It is a very convenient distance from my house as well. I always end up getting the cotton candy, s’mores, mint chocolate chip, or some other fruity flavor. Gotta love the fruity ones! Customer service is great. Air is always very cool in the store. Never a long wait. Love coming here!

MMMMMMGOOD! When I first heard of Rita’s I really didn’t care. I had no desire to try this place. But one day I was craving ice cream and my husband convinced me to try this place with him… so of course I did. I didnt really know what to order. The menu choices were very basic. Im a chocolate lover so I decided to get the chocolate custard… and oh my gulay! Soooo freaking delicious! Its like gourmet soft serve! Its not watery at all… it’s very thick in texture and packed with chocolate goodness! Ive tried the vanilla as well which was good… but the chocolate was the business! I always crave this place and I wish I had one close to my house…

I finally tried Rita’s after hearing about it for years, and it lived up to expectations. Rita’s serves both Italian ices and frozen custard, and also offers options of combining both into one dessert. For indecisive folks like me, this is fantastic. We arrived to an empty shop, but were greeted and served by a very friendly lady. She patiently and enthusiastically explained all of the options and offered suggestions. I ended up getting a kids sized ice with frozen custard on top– a great suggestion by her as a way to try the combination but in a small portion. I chose lemon ice and vanilla to keep it simple, and really enjoyed it. Next time I may get more adventurous — they had a Swedish fish flavored ice! Overall, I really like Rita’s as an alternative to standard ice cream shops, and especially in San Diego, such alternatives can be hard to find.

Another 5 star review for this place. The last time I came here was 7 months ago and today I went again with my friend for her birthday. Erick, was very nice and welcoming. You are welcome to try samples of any flavor you would like. The custard comes in strawberry, vanilla and mixed.

Holy Gelati! I’m going to be honest and say that I didn’t believe that a gelati would taste good, especially with the cherry flavor. I kinda got it because the girl behind the counter highly suggested it and she was nice enough to let me try a bajillion flavors, after which I still couldn’t decide what to get. Once that mix of marashino cherries and vanilla custard entered my mouth, I was one happy camper. The regular Gelati is pretty substantial, my boyfriend and I shared one and we were satisfied. I think if we got our own some of the sugary goodness would’ve gone to waste. However, we did get it at night time so if it was a hot day I think I would’ve wanted more. Needless to say, in the words of our Governator, I’ll be back!

It’s almost a bad thing that Rita’s is so close to my house because I go way too often. But it’s irresistible! I like that I can get something extremely different every time(custard, or Italian Ice, or both, a sundae, or a milkshake) that varies by texture and flavor. Last time I went(2⁄12) they had coffee custard — YUM. A couple weeks before, they had strawberry which was also good. With sundaes, they’re generous on toppings, and the staff has been nothing but friendly and helpful, always offering samples and giving their opinion on what flavors are the best. While I like the fact that their ice and custard flavors rotate all the time, I can see how some people might not like that their favorite isn’t consistently available. But that’s why you gotta keep coming back ;)

Location is great! Closer to my house than PQ. Pretty easy to find as well. It was such a hot day today & craving something sweet. Stopped in for the first time. I saw that they had the chocolate covered strawberry Yay! I ordered a large w/chocolate custard. I’m surprised he didn’t ask me because they always ask at the other location. I started asking the young men if it was busy in the store & they just kinda smiled at me. Just tried to make small talk to make there day go faster. More than $ 5 for a large? Wow! Definitely taking it to go for that much. I guess they charge for the custard too. I do like that they had a lot of tables to sit in the store. Although they needed to be cleaned. Also since it wasn’t exactly too busy in there. They could have cleaned off the tables or floors. Instead of holding the wall up. I cant figure out how to download tghe app, but I probably will return again.

So exciting to have Rita’s so close to home! On my first visit to this location, I had the gingerbread gelati. At first I was a bit hesitant about the gingerbread, but somehow Rita’s just makes the flavors work! What I like about this location is the openness. I’ve been to many other Rita’s locations in San Diego county, and they are so narrow and small. At least this location has indoor seating!
