What’s a similar category other than Food Truck to describe a mobile pizza oven and an open kitchen trailer? I noticed the curbside setup in front of Saint Archer Brewing as I went inside to meet some friends. It wasn’t long until I found myself back outside watching the road show of Neapolitan style pizzas being made and fired up in the wood burning oven. After a quick glance of the four item menu, I was intrigued by the only non-pizza option: The Tuna. Hmm… seared tuna from a pizza oven? Sure, I’ll go for it. The cashier said it was one of her favorites and that she would bring the dish to our table when it was ready. With permission, the friendly pizzaiolo let me encroach on his workspace to indulge my snapshots. He apologized for not being as conversational because he was focused on getting caught up on the dinner rush backorders. I apologized for my intrusion and stepped aside so he could work his cooking magic uninterrupted. The Tuna was delivered on a cardboard pizza round along with napkins and two pairs of wooden chopsticks. She asked if additional utensils would be needed and we said no thanks. The food was delicious and paired well with the light ale in hand. After a fair amount of potent, crafty beers, eating only a few slices of tasty fish wasn’t the most effective means for curing the munchies. We weren’t inclined this time to spend another $ 13-$ 15 to share a personal pizza when the munchies called for an XL pie or equivalent meal. I’m definitely a fan of the mobile pizza oven idea. Making the rounds to team up with kitchenless breweries and tasting rooms is a win-win proposition. It seems like a perfect match to enjoy craft pizza along with your craft beer. I just think that the fun-sized portions seem smallish for satisfying heartier appetites. No big deal, I’ll have to feed the hunger somehow. That’s not gonna prevent me from trying something else on the menu if we meet again.
