I’ve trained at SDAB for almost 10 years. I can sincerely say that it is the best decision I have made to go there. The best training and ballet instruction in San Diego. Great environment, teachers, classes, and not to mention the amazing studios with fantastic floors. Adult classes are great for all levels and ages of adults. Kids of all ages learn skills from experienced teachers while having a lot of fun. Give SDAB a try, you won’t regret it!!!

I took my first class last noght from Lena. It easily one of the best classes I’ve ever taken-I’ve taken from most of the best in LA and NYC and have been taking class since 1977. All the classes at San diego academy of Ballet are based on the Russian style of training, which is the best. I’ve been looking for Russian classes since I move from LA a few months ago. I found another school that is based on the Balanchine style which I avoided because it can cause, from what I’ve heard, career ending injuries since Balanchine’s choreography and classes move to fast to allow the dancer to get his or her heels down-to not get ones’ heels down causes injuries-I believe the majority of great ballet dancers have trained in the Russian-Vaganova style. Another thing I like about SDAB is that the main studio has gray Marley. Maybe I’m splitting hairs but the gray ‘welcomes’ or reflects light while the black ‘devours’ or absorbs light. I’ve performed on black and gray Marley and I feel part blind with the black-I couldn’t readily see what I was dancing on. I actually felt my balance was affected which was scary. With the gray Marley I could see and dance much better. Also, from the audience, everything looks better-brighter and more colorful with the gray Marley.

I have been dancing at SDAB for 8 years now and am still a committed student. The classes are just what I need, challenging and intense. Sylvia Tchernychev, the director, is one of the most outstanding teachers I know. Although she gives rigorous classes, she encourages her students to strive to be the best they can be. I could not have asked for a better teacher. The classes are Russian-based and the studio allows the students to work in a spacious setting with raised floors. What are you waiting for? Give SDAB a try!

The pinnacle of ballet schools in San Diego, and quite possibly on the West Coast. The facilities, training, directors, atmosphere, quality and location are all equally liable variables in this stellar equation.
