Awesome stores, great merchants, good door-men, and a beautiful building in historic Downtown San Diego! Amazing architecture and cool items.

This collection of stores located in a historic downtown building is known as the«Jewelers Exchange,» so hopefully Unilocal will update the name as such. I’d say the San Diego Jewelers Exchange is a mini version of NYC’s Diamond District. During our 14 months of engagement ring shopping, my boyfriend and I eliminated many of the more well-known San Diego jewelers because of their scores of fake and filtered Unilocal reviews.(No thanks, that kind of dishonesty is not for us.) Overall, the Jewelers Exchange was such a breath of fresh air. It was here last year that my fiancé purchased the diamond for my engagement ring – he likes to tell people that he scrutinized 36 loose diamonds before deciding on one – and had the ring’s setting created. I had the recent pleasure of experiencing the Jewelers Exchange for the first time and can absolutely see why the cut-through-the-bs nature of this place – as well as loose diamond prices much closer to wholesale than one will ever find at a traditional jewelry store – impressed my guy and made him feel comfortable spending a great deal of money. Since our engagement last fall, we are pleased to say that several other couples have become engaged with diamonds purchased at the Jewelers Exchange as a result of our recommendation. We really like this place.

Amazing I thought only really big cities like NY and LA had Jewelry marts, but San Diego has one too, a fairly big one. This place is open to the public, but it’s not the sort of place you are going to go browse. The owners of these shops are not salespeople, they are gem dealers, designers, fabricators or are used to selling wholesale to people in the know. So if you just wanna look, don’t go, they are looking for people who are ready to buy. NOW, if you are in the market this is the place to be. There is a big difference between retail and wholesale prices. The two places on the ground floor are the most customer friendly, but also have the highest prices, as you venture up be prepared to ring buzzers, these jewelers are behind locked doors and cameras are more prevalent than diamonds. So they check you out before you are allowed in. But if you are ok with all of this you will be coming out of there with some deals. For you men, this is the place to shop for that special gift for your girl. Whether its an engagement ring, and anniversary gift or just because, the people here will help you get some bang for your buck.
