Worst service. Dropped my kid’s flute off to be fixed(which was fixed well) and was given an estimation of a week. I didn’t get it back until 5 weeks later, after continuous calls that were never returned.

we just stopped in today to get some supplies, see about some personal lessons and get a new piece for my daughters sax that was bent. Tracy(I think it was Tracy), helped us. My daughter’s shy and Tracy was just so sweet to her and gave her a lot of tips and talked to her about her issues she was having with her sax(this is her first year playing) she was just so nice to her and helpful it was a nice experience. It seems like she really cares about her customers :) and they have a nice little store. We’re looking forward to her first lesson this week. The teacher there that my daughter will be seeing is a school band teacher.

Yes, it’s a small store with a small selection but it is great to have any music store in this neighborhood. The main service they offer is music lessons, and they have several friendly and knowledgeable teachers for guitar, drums, and other instruments.

Rip off alert, stay away. Two years ago when my daughter was in fourth grade, she took up the violin at her school. The local schools in Tierrasanta refer music students to San Diego Music for instrument rentals, etc. We live here, it’s close, we like supporting local businesses so we went with it. It seemed to me that purchasing the violin made more sense than renting for the year. She, the owner, forcefully talked us out of that saying that our daughter would grow and need a bigger size and, more importantly, not to worry because they actually apply ALL of the rental payments towards a purchase when the time comes. We came back 1 year later to exchange cases as my daughter’s had fallen apart. I was tired of renting and wanted to just purchase. Not only was I met with resistance again, but she insisted that my daughter needed to move up a size. But not to worry, it’s the same price and again all of this money is put towards a purchase. Fast forward to today. My daughter has now just started the sixth grade and is in Orchestra. We went to the store armed to fight the purchase vs. rent battle. We arrived at 10:55am and found the store closed. The sign on the window stated they open at 10am on Thursday. We called the number and the recording stated they open at 11. Fine, they can’t keep their mind straight on when they open. No problem, she’ll be here in 5 minutes. Over 1 hour later, she rolls up with a friend to open the store. We walk in saying we’d like to purchase the violin and, big surprise, she attempts to talk us out of it. We decide not to back down this time. After paying $ 400 for 2 years of rentals I thought we should be able to walk out of there with at least a couple of violins for free. Not so. After arguing with us that the Orchestra teacher didn’t know how to measure(right after she announced that she personally taught him how to measure) she said it would be about $ 100 to purchase. I thought to myself, now how the hell can that be? Is this violin $ 500? No way! Well it turns out, she conveniently forgot to tell us that when she FORCED us to get a bigger violin the year before she started a new contract and unfortunately that meant the rental fees from the first year no longer applied. WTF?! Then she offered that it didn’t really matter anyway, because only 6 months of rental fees can actually be used to purchase a violin. We handed her the violin and said we would no longer be renting and left. She deceived us purposefully, bullying us into continuing to rent each year and now we have given her $ 400 with no instrument to show for it. Do not support San Diego Music.

Currently, I’m staying in the Tierrasanta area for the summer. Quite a nice quaint area situated alone in the hills. San Diego Music, located next to Vons provides essential music services for the area. I am probably a little biased but if I need to pick up a few strings or buy some music books(you can request music books in catalogs for them to order. I recently purchased a Ben Folds Five music book) They carry a lot Cort products(low priced, high quality guitars and basses made in large quantities from South Korea) I do wish they had more choices for instruments, but they also offer rentals for kids(various woodwind instruments amongst other things) I also like the fact that they teach lessons at the store. I have taken some guitar lessons from a great blues/jazz guitarist. along with taking bass lessons from a bass teacher. One of my friends takes lessons Overall, I’m glad that this store is in the area. The community benefits from it.
