San Diego Segway Tours

So I have been trying to get out and do fun things around San Diego, and doing a Segway tour was on the list! I found a great deal on Groupon and I got to choose which tour I wanted to do. The options were Balboa Park or Gaslamp. I chose the 3-​hour Balboa Park tour opposed to the 2-​hour Gaslamp tour. I’ve never been on a Segway, so I was slightly scared about riding one of these things for 3 hours!
I booked our tour for a Sunday morning. It was not a pretty looking day, with the potential to rain… but I didn’t want to postpone the tour any longer. So I took a chance, and it turned out to be a perfect day for the tour! Apparently no one wanted to be out on Segway except for us. Great! We got our own private tour with just the two of us and our guide Arean. Thankfully it didn’t rain!
After a short safety video and a quick how to ride a Segway lesson we were on our way. There was hardly anyone out on the streets to Balboa Park, it made the ride so much easier without having to wait for lots of pedestrians on the sidewalk. I’ve been to Balboa Park many times, but I always wondered if I have seen everything… And after the tour, Yes, I officially had!
At the beginning of the tour we were given a small handset which we were able to hear our guide give us bits of history along the way. We had many stops along the way which were really nice. My favorite stop was the small rose garden and the Spreckels Organ Pavilion, but they were not playing yet. Free concert every Sunday, 2 – 3 pm! I’m going to have to check that out.
The Segway tour was so much fun!!! I thought for sure, I was going to be that doof that falls off this thing. I was a little worried at first… two wheels balancing on its own… come on. I have problems tripping just from walking! But No falls! It was really easy to maneuver after getting used to it. If you have been snowboarding, then it’s easier than that! I’m already looking into another Segway tour in a different area! Arean was an awesome guide… not to mention he was wearing a Cal bears sweatshirt! Go Bears!
The location was a little hard to find… darn GPS. But it’s right across the street from the Port of San Diego. There is parking on the Port side, but you do have to pay the meter… 7 days a week (Sundays are not an exception.)
