Came here to see a local artist and a couple of my friends who are professional musicians. I thought the venue was a bit cramped, many of the people in the audience had to stand because of the lack of chairs and space. There were refreshments served along with food and there was a recommended donation at the door.

To be honest, I have a conflict of interest — I rent a studio here. But I love it! And I’d love for the Unilocal-ing community to find this place. If you’re looking for a genuine ‘arts’ experience, look no further. Real artists making real work. San Diego needs more of this… Their events are fantastic — a chance for lively interaction with working artists. Soon, workshops will be offered in their newly constructed outdoor classroom. Look out for a permanent location within the decade…

In addition to its art spaces and classes, Space 4 Art also hosts frequent events of experimental and avant garde musical acts that are worth checking out. The only down side is that it is a somewhat dodgy part of East Village when it gets late at night, that I wouldn’t bring kids here in the evening. But otherwise for adults and young people, it’s a very interesting venue.
