Great service, delicious food, awesome vibe, ordered the Pulled Pork sandwich and the chicken wing appetizer with cilantro sauce Amazing!

The food is very good and most of their homemade sauces are amazing. The price is a bit high for the amount of food at dinner and the menu online states more sides than what I received. For the additional $ 4 from Lunch to dinner I expected a bit more food, not simply because it is later in the day. That said, I will be back but probably for lunch!

I visited on a Saturday at 3 o clock for an early Fathers Day gathering with my family. Parking was plentiful, the service was good, and we were all impressed with the food. As a bonus the prices are very reasonable. I ordered the chicken pesto sandwich which was very tasty and only 8 bucks. And if you check in on Unilocal you get a free side order of fries! I also recommend the dessert; a chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich. So good! We will be returning soon. Thank you Spice and Soul!

Server Jayce was so helpful and a great server. Food — brisket and burger. No the excellent. Love that the bun was toasted and they smoke the brisket in house. Yummy. We will go back… soon and often. Also loved the beer selection.

Came here on a Wednesday night for dinner and trivia. Parking was no issue and we were seated right away. They have a good selection of beer and wine. I had the guava lager and a Sierra Nevada summer fest. If you like IPA’s, the beer selection is ample, otherwise it’s a bit more limited. I ordered the S&S burger medium and added cheddar, bacon, and grilled onions for an extra $ 4. That’s in addition to the already $ 13 burger. That being said, the burger was well cooked and I enjoyed it. Note that their«awesome sauce» is basically 1000 island, so I nixed that and just went with ketchup for my spread. The fries were of the shoestring variety and had some seasoning as well. It’s not my favorite type of fries, but these were decent. They have a small bar area, as well as a patio. There’s also a TV in the main dining room to keep an eye on whatever games are on. The service was good and the atmosphere was very chill. It’s a bit on the pricy side, but overall our group had no complaints. Great spot for trivia too.

I live in the neighborhood and have been to this place 4 times now as well as bringing a large amount of food in to my office for an office party. I have walked away each time feeling underwhelmed. The barbecue is mediocre and you have to pay for additional sauces. The fries are skinny fries which remind me of Steak-and-Shake from my days spent living in the Midwest, except you have to pay extra to get them. The prices meanwhile are expensive relative to the quality you are getting. My office-mates were also left underwhelmed. And this was after everyone having an opportunity to sample a variety of items from the menu for our office party. The service is so-so. I think this is more because of a lack of experience than anything else. Forgotten beers, poor memory in retaining orders taken, not getting refills, etc., but seemingly well-meaning. The beer selection is good. Which is appropriate as the place they took over had an awesome beer selection. If they took that away it would have completely killed the place for me. I have yet to have a person I know tell me that this place is amazing. My hope is that they improve over time and can anchor in this neighborhood. We need a good restaurant in BayHo and as this is my best option I am rooting for them. I will come back to my review if I find they improve.

Just checked this place out for the first time tonight for happy hour. We were really excited after seeing all the wonderful reviews and it being right in our neighborhood. We rushed to get there in time for happy hour and thankfully made it in time. Got there and sat at a table waiting to be helped for over 10 minutes. Once they finally came to our table and took our order at 6:02 they said happy hour had just ended. Really?! Great customer service guys

The only thing holding this place to 4 stars is the skinny little fries. The skinny little fries that I had to pay 3 bucks for to add as a side to my burger. Burger I had was pretty tasty and juicy, as was wifey’s turkey club. Service was good and place is nice and new and clean. Good beer selection, although I wasn’t able to enjoy a beer because I had to go back to work. I look forward to trying the wings, as guys at work rave pretty hard on them. I’ll be back.

Came to Spice & Soul with my fiancée on a Saturday(4pm-ish). Really nice spot. Simple and clean. The staff is very friendly and eager to answer all your questions and tend to your needs. From what the server stated– All the meat(tri-tip/brisket/pulled pork) is smoked and done in house. The wings were awesome– CRISPY, and the 2 sauces we got(garlic and aoili) were a good complement. I like how the chicken is not drenched in sauce, allowing us to control as we dipped and bit away. RECOMMENDED Prices werent that bad, anywhere from $ 10-$ 15 for entrees. Local beer on tap as well. which is always a plus. All in all, this spot is up on the hill, in a little plaza. Its easy to see from Morena Blvd. We will be coming back to try other things. Thanks Spice & Soul.

Spice & Soul was a nice surprise on a recent Friday afternoon after we made a Costco run after work. My hubby and I carpooled to work on this particular day since we knew we wanted to go out to eat to start our weekend on the right foot. As we were at the nearby Costco Gas Station filling up the tank, that’s how I came across this lovely new restaurant thanks to the very helpful Unilocal app on my phone. The first thing that attracted my hungry appetite were the salt and pepper chicken wings. Thanks to fellow Unilocalers for posting their pics of this appetizer many times over to convince us to try this, I’m glad we did. Not only were the chicken wing pieces very meaty(sissy, anorexic-sized wings at restaurants are my pet peeve), they were fried to perfection and seasoned so simply for us to leave no wing behind. The order includes two sides of house made sauces(from their list of eight options), but I can’t remember which ones my hubby ordered for us. Both were flavorful, but I ate my wings naked, I didn’t think it needed the dipping sauces. We decided to go big or go home with our order, so along with our wings, we shared an order of the seared pork chop, the Cesar salad and the complimentary half order of the skinny fries(thanks to my Unilocal check-in). I think we ordered too much after going through my share of the wings because I was almost full by the time the rest of our food came out. The pork chop was the perfect size for our appetite, enough to split between the two of us to get a good, savory serving of this wholesome entrée. We opted for the grilled veggies and mac and cheese as our two sides, it was more than enough for us to tap out and call it a night… until they asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu, lol. Aside from the pork chop, we picked at the Cesar salad; it was good, but it had a little too much dressing. The sundried tomatoes threw us both off, there was a lot of it and we ended up picking it out. Next time I’ll remember to order this with the dressing on the side sans the side dried tomatoes, lol. I don’t know why we bothered with dessert, we were already bursting at the seams with a food baby, but then again… this place was new for us, so we wanted to go all in for a full dining experience. The ice cream sandwich was what we shared between the two of us. I guess in my head, I was expecting the ice cream sandwiches to look and taste like the ones you buy on the ice cream truck(or in the freezer section at the grocery store). Nope, this was constructed of two chocolate chip cookies with a simple scoop of vanilla ice cream. I probably wouldn’t order this again, the cookies were cold and eating it with a spoon was not the easiest thing to go(nor did I have the energy to get messy by grabbing it with my hands). Overall, this place was great. If you can find street parking, park on the street since this parking lot can get busy at dinner time. For a pint of beer, a glass of wine and all the food I wrote about, it came out to $ 58 and some change. Not bad for above average food, we’d definitely return back and try other menu items. At least we know Spice & Soul is a great lunch or dinner option when we’re going on a Costco run and not stuffing our faces with the complimentary samples, lol.

We had a really nice time here with drinks and dinner. This was our first time here since it became Spice & Soul at this location. We sat at the bar for awhile till the rest of our party arrived. The bar manager and the owner were there and everyone was so friendly and welcoming. They have a nice selection of local craft beers and I believe $ 1 off during happy hour. When our party arrived we had dinner and I have to say the Mac N Cheese is out of this world good! Everyone was happy with their entrée as well, but the Mac was great and one to remember. I like that they put a window in and a open air window at that to the outside patio. My only wish is that the beer prices were a tad lower.

What a Devine combination of amazing service, amazing food and amazing ambiance ! Check check check ! Unilocalers — free fries … Double check !!! Visited on 4÷2÷16 at 645 pm. Our server was Adrian, which by the way was on top of everything. He tried his best to make sure we had everything and even with a busy night and the food taking a bit longer than I usually expect… and a glass of water took a bit longer… and him handling multiple tables, I wasn’t in the least bit dissatisfied. Effort means a lot to me and he showed that through offering another beer on the house when one of them gave one of the guys heartburn and complimentary dessert. Thank you Adrian! Keep rocking. The ambiance — feels like a small house with a bar. Love the décor, artsy woodsy feel of the tables, walls and the silver metal trays where our foods were presented. Very urbanesque! The food– holy moly. They offer an amazing menu. Small, but still just enough to keep it interesting. I actually couldn’t decide ! Roasted chicken? Pulled pork, brisket, Mac n cheese with brisket ??, burger, salmon, salads … Everything looked so good. The entrees come with two sides as well. I recommend the Mac n Cheese … No doubt. It was absolutely delicious ! None of that fake sort of Mac n cheese you’ll Hope be good ! It was heaven. Sort of crispy on top and creamy curly noodles and cheese underneath. Devine !!! The balsamic salad was great. And their awesome sauces is something you’ll have to try. I tried the almond basil pesto with my burger and could not believe how amazing it was. Get ready to be quite full… those two sides will get ya ! The burger I got reminded me of backyard BBQ was a gourmet twist ! It was absolutely deliciously grilled and the meat is handmade every morning. Quality burger. It comes with awesome sauce which is like a thousand island dressing on the side. The pulled pork comes juicy and a side of semi spicy BBQ on the side. Mounds of meat. It was juicy and wonderful even without the sauce. The only thing I would limit is the salt on the fries. It was bit too much for my taste but wow I’m definitely coming back. I’m impressed at how everything flow for a new business. Parking — there is a lot but it gets crowded on the weekends as its a shared lot so make those reservations early or late ! Oh yah! This place gave me the spice and soul indeed.

Really floored by this place! I work down the street and a lot of coworkers have been bringing it in during their shifts. The food options around here are extremely underwhelming(although I do love me a good Costco Swirl Froyo every now and then… but don’t get me started on the parking)… so I knew I had to check this place out. I picked up the burger… which generously came with two sides. I can never say no to a french fry… and I guess I’m on a worldwide mission to try all mac and cheese options wherever I go… so I indulged. Everything was superb. From the brioche bun to the excellent meat… the seasoned fries(which I think was just salt and pepper but somehow it tasted magical)… and the creamy, cheesy mac and cheese… I just couldn’t get enough. Not only was the food great, staff was lovely, and the décor in this place is tres adorable. I picked up my food to go, but I can’t wait to come back and try something new and dine-in!

If I end up in Heaven one day and they ask me what I’d like to eat, there’s a good chance I’ll tell them I’d like the Roasted Chicken with extra sauces and an avocado salad from Spice and Soul, please. It’s that good. If you haven’t gone here, just do it. Get a few extra sauces. It’s almost not even real how good it is.

Food was amayzzzz, and loved the service here. Super friendly, helpful staff. Great, dog friendly patio. They had water out to our dog within minutes of sitting down. Great beer selection. Drunken mussels were so yummy, and we are from near PEI where they came from. Never seen them prepared this way, will bring family when they come to visit. Great burger, fries. Highly recommended!

Coming from Convoy area, my friends and I all had a pretty tough time finding this spot and google maps somehow led us all to the infinity lot in Convoy. If your maps weirdly does this to you as well, this place is actually located on the other side of Clairemont near Morena Blvd! Although it took a bit to find the place, finding it was worth it. Came in on a Saturday mid-afternoon around 4pm and sat at the bar. It wasn’t crowded around this time, so it was nice. We were greeted by a nice bartender who closely resembles Vin Diesel and he was extremely nice and helpful with choices of beer and food. They have a good selection of beers from breweries like Modern Times, Ballast, Bell’s, Stone, Sierra Nevada, just to name a few, and they are very generous about allowing you to taste them. As for food, we got the Salt & Pepper wings, the Avocado Salad, the BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich, and my friend got another sandwich in which I forgot the name of. The Salt & Pepper wings are very good and they give you a good amount of them. I forgot the exact number, but it’s definitely shareable amongst 4 people. I got the Avocado Salad, which comes with about 3 pieces of toasted sour dough bread slices in which you can dip into the Avocado/Cherry Tomato/Balsamic concoction. This dish isn’t really the type of salad you’re thinking of, but more of a snack that you put on bread. It was still very good, nonetheless! All of our favorites was definitely the BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich. I really like pulled pork sandwiches and this was cooked to perfection. They give you some BBQ sauce on the side which makes it a lot better as well. Around 6PM that night, Sierra Nevada’s sales representative came in as well for some type of «Beer-take over» kind of thing. I thought that was pretty cool. This place is new, but I’m really hoping that more people check it out because it’s a really nice spot and the people working there seem to really care about their customers!

Yet another great new place In Bay Ho. Happy, brightly lit, clean café with a small Menu of fresh, tasty choices. Good beer selection and nice staff. I ordered the club sandwich and turkey and rice soup. Both were really good. Food came out quickly and it was a good value for the price. Now Bay Ho has great Americana right across the parking lot from some of the best Italian and artisan pizza in San Diego.

So happy to have this wonderful restaurant in our hood! Tasty food, prompt and friendly staff, and baby/child friendly environment. The salt and pepper wings are a must, which has many pairing sauces for them. My husband and I each ordered the burger, which was probably the best burger I can remember having. Juicy, flavorful pattie on a warm soft bun(not sure what kind of bun it was). Came with an option of two side. I ordered crispy fries and mashed sweet potatoes(for our daughter). My husband order fries and Mac n cheese(very good). Can’t wait to return !

The Cal Bano Sandwich was a fantasy of smoked meat layered w/cheese & tucked inside a crispy bun. It was so tasty it made my husband and I strike up a conversation on when are we going to visit Cuba for food & culture. We also got a nice spread of the French onion soup(their soup of the day); the bowl was a nice portion to share w/a coat of delectable cheese. The simple greens salad was a kale mixture w/some cucumbers, which was healthy but nothing too exciting-simple greens, after all. I saw on Unilocal they had an offer for ½ order of Skinny Fries for free, & that is a nice perk for first-timers. I ordered a beer flight, which had the coffee porter, the mocha stout, the oatmeal stout, and the Belgian white rascal ale. I had tried the mocha stout once before, and it was wonderful. But this time, the taste was off-something between metallic & bitter. Our server told us he would go check out this particular barrel. The coffee porter is good and tasty, and that would be worth an entire glass to soak down a nice meal. The place is still new, and it is a nice addition to an otherwise small shopping center where there are limited businesses open. The inside is simple & modern, with a bar area. Good for the locals to stop-in to grab a beer, and eat some basic but tasty food. I saw that they charged 50 cents for the sauce, which I felt should be free, at least for the first dip, esp. if you are ordering entrees etc. I love the house hot sauce from Luce’s(not too far from this place), & I always get it with my fries(their house hot sauce is free, & I literally go there for their sauce & their yummy fries-just ask my husband) :) There was also an issue with their printing system that day when we were waiting for the check, but as the place is new, they are still working out the details. I hope more people will come out & support this local place. It is small and intimate, but a nice space w/a dog-friendly outdoor patio for anyone who wants to bring Fido to join them for a sandwich & beer.

I’ve been here a few times, because I wanted to give it a fair shot. The service is slow, but mostly because they seem understaffed. Each server had been very courteous and nice, but when they are running around, stressed, it shows. The last time we walked in, there was 3 open tables: two high tops directly under the tv and a low table. We asked to sit at the low table do we could watch the game and they told us no because they were holding it for another guest.(i didn’t know we could call ahead and specially request tables! Hmm) So we sat at the high top and proceeded to watch the next couple walk in, and request the lower table too… which 1st first they were told no, like us, so they stood in the doorway waiting to be seated at the other high top, when another waitress approached them to seat them… and skin they asked for the low table… which then they were seated there. Now, it seemed to me that this was not the couple it was being held for, so now the other waiter just looks like a liar. FOOD The food has always been just ok. The pork chop is good but has so much fat that there’s not much near left to eat. I’ve tried their salads and pulled pork, which both were again, ok. You’ll need the sauce fur the pulled pork because otherwise it’s to dry to eat. You might need extra, you’ll have to pay more tho. Great beer list! And the décor is perfect, I love it. This place will be great once the customer service timing picks up.

My husband and I found this restaurant due to a random incident. We were walking our dog on Fiesta Island and met chef Ryan who told us about his restaurant Spice and Soul. We decided to go and am I glad we did. Starting with the wonderful dog friendly patio. We had a great and knowledgeable waitress Oksana. We ordered the mussels and Calbano sandwich. Both were fantastic! I could have had a bowl of the mussel broth as a soup it was so amazing. Also had a flight of 4 beers from different local breweries. Great way to test out the breweries. I live in Temecula but will be back. What a find. Thanks Ryan

Great beer selection. Nice lunch menu, but I’d love to see the dinner menu. Would have liked to see a hot chicken or turkey sammich option. I ordered the Kale Salad with salmon, which was pretty good. I also got the Broccoli & Cheddar soup, which was not so bueno. It was runny and flavorless. My friend got the Burger, which she was said was hella good. Service was great. Loved my server’s(Oksana) knowledge of the beer list. I’ll definitely be returning.

Great lunch here! We happened to be in the neighborhood at lunchtime & am so glad we dropped in. I had the roasted kale salad with salmon. Really delicious. It had crispy chickpeas & marinated onion which added unique flavor. It was on par with any salad I’ve had at upscale places downtown or Little Italy. My husband also had a salad with a side of smoked brisket. Wow ! Great flavor, would be amazing on a sandwich. Service was efficient and the atmosphere is nice — very clean and contemporary. Makes you want to settle in and have a drink or two. Will be back to sample the many alcohol choices and also some very enticing French Fries that I saw float by.

I wanted to like it– being the only table in the house was no excuse for cold fries, raw chicken wings and a burnt burger? Huh? And plenty of attitude from the cook about it. This place was pretty good! My husband ordered a pulled pork sandwich and i had the macaroni and cheese with roasted veggies. The portions were generous. We will definitely go back to try something else off the menu. The décor was super cute and the place was very clean. It was a little on the loud side for being as small of a place that it is. Over all this place gets 4 out of 5 for our first visit. Side note the bartender«April» was great, she was very personable and was actually the one to came to come and greet us and take our drink orders. Just had dinner there tonight as I could walk over quickly from home before it starts to rain again. Had the Mac And Cheese with pulled pork! Was the best Mac and Cheese I’ve had since I’ve moved to San Diego almost a year ago. Had a side salad and side Mashed Sweet Potatoes which where just as good! Service was great also of which I usually only tip 15% on average, 10% for ho hum service and 20% for over and above and this was a 20%er! This was my second time there after having a burger on their soft opening and that was good as well! Highly recommended it! Great atmosphere as well. Sweet little place!

Such a cute and cozy place to have dinner! Loved the décor, it is a small room but nonetheless, we loved the atmosphere. I ordered the salt and pepper chicken wings. They were nice and crispy, and seasoned perfectly. You get a choice of two sauces, in which we picked the almond basil pesto and the soy ginger cilantro sauces(they come on the side btw). My husband ordered the pulled pork sandwich, which he loved and thoroughly enjoyed. I very much enjoyed my wild salmon entrée, everything was perfect… from The cook of it to the seasoning! The bartender was also awesome! My husband ordered a flight taster of beers, and the bartender was super helpful in providing insight as to which ones to try. Great food, great service! I decided to stop by, because it’s two minutes from work and I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews from co-workers,(«go check it out! It’s new and we gotta keep this place going!») I have to say, after lunch not only was I happy with my decision, I was blown away. I ordered the mac & cheese side and shoe string fries. The mac & cheese is really enough of a meal by itself and is incredibly priced. It was honestly the best macaroni and cheese I’ve ever had in my entire life. You can tell it’s made with love, and real cheese. I was beyond impressed with the quality of the food and speed of service. Everyone that works there is so friendly, and really makes you feel like part of the family. They’re all clearly happy to be there, and that makes such a huge difference in any business. The beer selection is phenomenal, and I will absolutely be coming back for a flight ASAP!

I was very pleased with this place today at lunch time. It was very clean and the staff members were on thier A-game… I only had about 45 minutes to spare before heading back up the street to work. The salt and pepper wings were crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside and bursting with amazing flavor. The music complimented the warm and cozy atmosphere along with the nice wide-screen tv’s. It is really nice to have such a laid back establishment in the neighborhood with down to earth ownership and staff members. I think the owner and his wife were sitting at one of the tables looking over paperwork as I enjoyed the delicious wings. I mentioned to them that the wings were awesome and that I was looking forward to coming back without having to rush back to work. I can’t wait to try the mussels next. I’m also looking forward to the restaurant being open on weekends so more of Clairemont can come out and enjoy some really good food.

The mussels were outstanding! Great selection of beer and brisket was tasty. Nice place, needs s a couple of tweaks on the atmosphere. The acoustics are bad, very loud with or without it full. The previous place had curtains on the walls, maybe that helped. Lighting is very bright, turn down the pot lights. I’m posting suggestions hoping the owner takes heed as the food is good and I’m stoked about the place in our neighborhood.

Great new place in the neighborhood. Unilocal had incorrect hours posted initially. I find it interesting they are not open on weekends. I took my two kids Friday night and we really enjoyed our time so much, we dropped by for lunch with my wife on Saturday to find them closed. I had the the mussels(which were fantastic) the juice was so good, I asked for a spoon to finish it off. My kids had a quesadilla and a slider. I want to go back and try out the beer selection(they have a huge selection on draught) on my next trip. Brand new… a few selections… soften the lights… watch the tables a little more closely… I would have had another glass of wine… but we were not approached for quite some time at the end of our meal… Good job Spice and Soul.

It’s nice to have this place in the neighborhood. The décor is rustic and cute. Our server Adrian was nice. The menu looked great but we were really disappointed that they ran out of the pork option. So we decided to share the chicken. It was a good amount of food like Adrian told us, my boyfriend and I were both really full from it. The chicken wasn’t that flavorful but apparently because they had more customers than expected they ran out of food and didn’t get to marinate. We were told the chef was so upset that he couldn’t serve food the way he normally prepares it so he left. Uh, okay? The grilled veggies and quinoa rice was really good. The Unilocal app gave us free shoestring fries which were really season fries, those were my favorite. They had a nice beer selection, especially for malty beers. My boyfriend drank two, I just had a watery sprite. One suggestion I have is that they shouldn’t charge 50 cents for BBQ sauce… Seems like they are ‘nickel and diming’ their customers even though their menu had good prices. We got one anyway and we were given it «on the house» lol. It’s 50 cents. I only bring it up because I didn’t like that but then heard the table next to us have a long conversation about how the extra charge was such a turn off. We’ll probably be back. We want to try the pork. It said it was flavored with coffee or something. I hope this place has success!!!
