I love spicy food and the spicy food here is the best around this area. The spicy boiled fish is my favorite, have it with Fanta, oh my lovely day!

This is my favorite Chinese. I have eaten at some of the best-known«nice» restaurants and very authentic«dives» in SF, NYC and LA. I love spicy food, but not everything here will blow your head off despite the plates being decorated with red chilis. We haven’t eaten anything too exotic(tame co-diners), but anything with meat and/or vegetables has been fabulous. The menu is HUGE and would take me years to eat my way through. The most recent time we ate here I noticed the cold buffet by the cash register. The cashier gave me some of the shaved pigs ear(which resembled prosciutto) and something else(I forget) to try. They were both delicious, and I saved some of the pigs ear to bring home to my 88YO mother(not Chinese). Even though it was spicy, she loved it, too! I can’t wait to eat here again – it’s only 1,500 miles away from where I live ;-) Don’t miss the Thai place next door – it’s wonderful, too. IMO it’s as good as Thep Phanom in SF, which when we lived there(20 years ago) was the top-rated Asian restaurant in the city.

If you’re looking for American-Chinese food, this place isn’t for you. Don’t get me wrong; I grew up on American-Chinese food and like it. This place serves a lot of authentic Szechuan food. Not just super spicy but a complex combo of spices including the unique prickly ash Szechuan pepper that you can’t find in any other type of cuisine.

Very decent Szechuan food, although a little pricy but every dish was large. May be too spicy for Americans and for Chinese it was perfect. service was also great: D

Got seated promptly, but a long wait on a monday night. Had to flag the server down for menus about ten minutes in the door, and after we ordered we waited about 30 – 40 minutes for the food to come out. Thankfully the food we ordered was worth the wait! Boiled fish in spicy soup was what I was craving, and it was great! The service was the frustrating part, but they weren’t rude, just too busy to deal with us.

She said: Potentially more like a 3.5÷5, I would like to go back and try a few more dishes and re-evaluate. We had the won-tons that I have ordered at every chinese place that offers them because they are my favorite, and these were very good and came with a special sauce that made it even better. We also tried the a chicken dry pot, it tasted good but I wish was it was clear the chicken was deep fried before ordering, because it wasn’t really what I was looking for at the time. Also, the amount of chicken in the pot was skimpy, but I did like the seasoning and the noodles. For me, even the mild was too spicy to enjoy, but I realize I’m at a place called spicy house so that doesn’t affect my rating. Service was average, they were nice and so was how long we had to wait for our food. Pricing was reasonable for the portions. I would try it again, but wouldn’t go out of my way to come back. He said: This is also like a 3.5 for me. There was a few won ton dishes and the server recommended the house won ton one, and it was excellent, much better than other chinese places we’ve had around convoy. The chicken dry pot had a good portion, but definitely could have used more chicken and was a bit spicier than even I expected. Also didn’t know that it was deep fried, would have probably gone for beef if I knew that. Service was average, place was clean and server was friendly and had a good recommendation. Would go back to try a few different things, but not a standout experience.

I’ve eaten here many times, and it’s always a great meal. Serious Szechuan food, though there are dishes for the non spice-lovers, too. Anything with preserved vegetables is good, as is the cumin beef/lamb, and all of the fish dishes I’ve tried. Actually, it’s all good. If I had one disappointment, and it was a minor one, I thought the hot and sour soup lacked the«sour». A little vinegar added to the leftovers did the trick. Service is good, though if they’re busy don’t expect much chattiness. Pretty standard for Chinese restaurants. Also, if it’s busy, the last open table will be below the TV. Better to wait for another, and the only place you will hear the TV is at the closest two tables, where you are below it and can’t see it, so I don’t understand why the sound is even on.

Anything you can think of for Sichuan food, you can get it in Spice City. I ordered cold appetizer platter and xiaolionbao. Everything was yummy and reasonable price. I had to take home for most stuff and would be enough for me to eat for two more meals. Staff seems friendly enough. The only problem is parking — nightmare

Came here on a Friday night with my boyfriend and the wait was only about ten minutes. This is a big plus, especially compared to its competition Spicy City. The food here is delicious, big, and reasonably priced. Obviously everything was oily and greasy but that’s just what Szechuan food is all about yo! Take it or leave it. Just like any other Chinese restaurants, service wasn’t the best, but was definitely fast and efficient, which is good enough for me. The food here is equally good as Spicy City but I’m definitely coming back here more because of the shorter wait.

Wow Wow wow wow Wow Authentic Chinese to die for! We went with a group of eight and ordered so much food! And everything was absolutely amazing. Brilliant flavours, fresh ingredients, and huge portions. This is what we had: Fried dumplings Boiled dumplings Yunnan style wontons Dan Dan noodles Szechuan cured duck Boiled fish in spicy hot sauce Lamb chop with hot pepper Shrimp with noodles Fried green beans Sautéed vegetables Sautéed Chinese greens with garlic Fish & tofu and garlic in brown sauce Spicy twice cooked pork with garlic leaves Seriously, EVERYTHING was delicious! My favorite were yunnan style wontons, fried green beans, boiled fish in spicy hot sauce, and fish & tofu and garlic in brown sauce. The people who liked duck could not stop marveling over the dish — it was a huge win. The noodles were my least favorite, but still good. The service was great, the place is clean, and considering the portions, the prices were right. Best to do this family style with a large group.

Really good food and obviously spicy: P You get a little pot of tea from the beginning, and the menu has pictures which helps a lot. Service was great.

Walked in and had 3 workers walk pass without greeting us… The restaurant wasn’t busy at all but we stood there awkwardly waiting for someone to seat us. After the third person who walked past we finally got seated and were given hot tea and menus. I asked for water and when the server brought it back the straw was broken.(A broken straw isn’t really important but all I’m thinking is if you see a broken straw why would you put it in a drink? Just throw it away.) As I’m looking through the menu I start getting a headache because the menu is all over the place. Not really a menu, it’s more like a picture book of all the food that they have. Pictures are great but all the dishes started to look the same after turning page after page. I ordered honey walnut shrimp and pan fried dumplings and my boyfriend ordered spicy fish in chili sauce. The walnut shrimp is literally fried shrimp and they mix it in mayonnaise, then throw walnuts on top. Nothing else. It was just disgusting. Then we got the spicy fish in chili sauce and when it came out my boyfriend asked«where’s the fish?» It was all right in front of our face. It didn’t look like fish at all, not fresh, slimy, and old. Covered in oil. The dumplings had no flavor. We ended up getting to-go boxes, paid, and went next door to mignon phở+ grill and actually enjoyed our food there. The bill was $ 40 and we ended up giving everything to a homeless man that we always see on the street. Guess it didn’t go to absolute waste.

Although my heart weeps a little for the departed Shanghai City, Spicy House is an honorable replacement. I’ve been here three or four times since the changeover, and the portions are consistently large and the food is spicy!!! Take those chili indicators on the menu seriously because the food here can pack a punch! Speaking of the menu, can they get a graphic designer ASAP? This has to be one of the worst designed menus I have ever seen! Every page glares RED and often pictures are repeated! Ow my eyes! Anyway, on my last visit my date and I shared the Chef’s special green beans, shredded pork with preserved vegetable, and Chungking style wonton. All three dishes were delicious, in particular the Chungking style wonton was fantastic. I loved the softness of the wrapper and the pork filling was delicious. I like that the spicy red dipping sauce was served on the side. Tip: If you would like to help them cheat on their taxes, there’s a Unilocal check in offer for 10% off your bill(dine in only) if you pay cash.

Uh oh, I think I might have just found my new favorite Szechuan restaurant! :) I love a meal here and there at Spicy City but the wait there is just too long. My sister and I decided to look for a new spot to try out and found this place(thanks Unilocal!). Also, just on a side note, if you’re new to Szechuan(Sichuan), it’s a different type of spicy-not like buffalo wings spicy but more of a numbing spicy. If you’re trying it for the first time-props to you! But just make sure not to eat any of those little black balls that are spices in the food-it’s like a bite of mint followed by numbness, doesn’t sound that bad but you probably still won’t like it. :) It’s located in a plaza with many other restaurants including a Japanese supermarket Nijiya Market. There’s a lot of parking but can definitely get crowded during rush hour times. Walking into the restaurant, I was excited-a lot of Asian décor and the restaurant was big with a lot of families, big and small, dining there. It was poppin’ which is always a good sign to me. Plus-no WAIT! We were seated immediately and got green tea as well as waters. The menu is quite extensive but luckily also includes pictures for those of us who are more visual people(and also if you can’t read Chinese). Note to self-bring more people next time! The portions here are really big. Prices are very fair for the portions they give you! They also have cold side dishes at the front and even those are very generous portions! We ordered the Chongqing hotpot and it was MASSIVE. Probably days worth of leftovers for sure. There were also a lot of ingredients in it which is always a positive in my book.

Came for lunch, left with food poisoning. We really love our spicy foods and were really looking forward to this place. The staff were so inattentive we could’ve left without anyone noticing. We sat ourselves and finally someone came over to give us the menu. It went from spicy house to scary house. The menu was very large, like reading a novel in a foreign language. The items didn’t have descriptions so we reverted to ordering from the pictures(wonder if this is chicken or pork). We asked the waitress, who barely spoke English. I think someone told her if Americans can’t understand you, yell it louder until they do. Whatever it was that we ordered didn’t taste good. I ordered something with shrimp and it was bad, as in spoiled. Even the white rice was disgusting. It had this rotten meat sort of flavor. We thought maybe our brains were tricking us since the spoiled shrimp scent was permeating our nostrils and tried to flavor the rice with spicy powder and soy sauce. But no, it was bad. We decided to just pay and leave our food without complaints because my trust in getting safe food was gone. Later in the day we all found out how bad the food was as we were all scrambling for the bathroom.

My boyfriend and I came here twice and both enjoyed it! On our first visit, we ordered sizzling beef, salt and pepper fish, and seafood tofu hotpot. The sizzling beef and seafood tofu hotpot were both very yummy. The salt and pepper fish… not so great. We had better. It didn’t have enough flavor and the batter was too sweet. It tasted similar to a ice cream cone. For our second visit, we tried a new dish. It was szechuan spicy fish. It had flavor and spicy but it was too super oily. The service was decent. The pricing for the dishes wasn’t so bad. It’s affordable. When you want your dishes to go, they’ll pack it for you.
