Star Grooming on Fifth

Never having used a dog groomer in San Diego, we chose one near our condo to have our Chihuahua’s nails clipped. He does not like us doing his nails and usually have them done at his vet’s office. We were very pleased as to how he was handled at Star Grooming and how the nails were done and at a reasonable price. We will certainly use this groomer in the future and would recommend their service. Thank you.

What can I say? We love Star. I never worry about Lexi. She not only comes home more adorable than when she arrived, but I find comfort knowing that she is also so well attended.

She such a great groomer, she is animal lover. My dogs very comfortable with her. Animals they have that’s feeling. They know who loving them .
I don’t know why the people give her 1 star for just making the phone call. Please before you review for some one business, just think if that’s is your business. Do you want some one to do that for you?

Website says they do cat grooming but when I called they said they do not.

I have been taking my 10 year old Maltese to Star for the past year and half, since moving to San Diego. My dog requires regular grooming and has a rather bad skin condition (grass and pollen allergies that flare up numerous times a year). Star has been very attentive to my dog’s skin condition, working with me to suggest and try out (at her shop with no addition cost) different antibacterial shampoos. His cut is always adorable, and I regularly get comments from strangers when I walk him back home from the beauty parlor. Star’s shop lets the dogs roam around together, which I much prefer to crates. She gives a discount for your first appointment, and although she has had to raise her rates, she’s on market (I’ve paid the same or more in Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, and Nashville). There is easy street parking outside her shop (bring some quarters for the meters), and she calls the week of to remind you of your appointment. She fills up fast, so expect to book 2 weeks out and have your schedule ready with you, since she always offers to book your next appointment when you pick up. Always a pleasant experience and my dog is excited to go to the groomer (and exhausted in a good way after from his pampering and playing with the other dogs).

We have two Bichon’s. They are both 8 years old and we’ve kept them clean and groomed their whole lives. We took our girls to Star for the first time last week. OMG… they look like the «real thing». They are absolutely beautiful, looking like super star Bichon Frise’s. The girls get to walk around the shop freely, so they are not caged. They were happy and beautiful when I picked them up. I’ve already booked my next appointment with Star. I highly recommend her services.

I have brought Loki to Star for the last 2 years, and its always been professional,
Loki is a pom, but i keep his hair short, and Star always makes him look great!

I believe all the one star reviewers. I didn’t even make it in to her shop. I cancelled ahead of time and she was upset that I called and tried to charge me for canceling. I guess she prefers «no shows» or maybe a bad day? Inexcusable.

Star on Fifth is fabulous! I have been taking my elderly dog to Star for the past year and am delighted with her services. Allowing the dogs to roam & lounge on luxurious beds while being groomed very lovingly makes for a handsome dog and, most of all, a happy mama! Thank you Star, we love you

I just picked up Penny, our standard poodle puppy, 9 months old and a handful. She looks beautiful! Penny arrived at Star Grooming with burrs, uneven coat, dirty and not brushed for weeks. Star is a true pro and can turn a tom girl into a show stopper. I’ll never go to anyone else.
Star also groomed my Tibetan Terrier for years until we lost her to cancer last year. Carly was a drama queen and did not like to be brushed or bathed, but with Star she was always so relaxed and came home happy and pleased with herself at how great she looked, true retired show dog she was.

I am livid with star at Star grooming! Please see my earlier review which describes the situation, the one and only time I took my beloved Standard Poodle to star at Star grooming on 5^th. My dog was dropped off healthy and alert in need of grooming. She was not knotted, she did not have stores, as dishonest Star wrote in response to my previous scathing review herein. «Star», your petty attempts to shame me regarding animal care are laughable; anyone can peer right through your feeble disrespect! I take good care of my dog. What happened in the next few hours is what makes me most upset! Star never called me as my dog fell into a state of medical collapse. Star continued to groom my dog when my dog could no longer stand on her own two feet. I do not blame star for my dogs medical condition which was unbeknownst me, Addison’s disease. Addison’s disease comes about when an animal undergoes great stress. Never ever in the many years that I have lived with and loved my dog have I ever had my baby so stressed out at grooming. Anyhow, star called me to come get my dog and I had to carry my dog out of her shop and put it in my vehicle and rush her to the emergency room. Star displayed such a callous lack of concern about my baby’s urgent medical state that she demanded I pay her before I remove the dog from her shop. Please, please, please owners of animals do not go to star grooming!!! In response to my first review this is what happens next… As a retalitory move against me, this unprofessional wannabe businesswoman claims that my dog was matted and had sores! That is nothing shy of utterly ludicrous! She claims that I came back three more times! OMG! Star? Grasping for straws? I would NEVER EVER go back to star grooming in a billion years if it was the last place on the face of this earth! I implore everyone who cares one iota about their beloved animal companions to go anywhere but star grooming, not only for blatant disregard of a pet’s medical welfare, but to stand in solidarity against unethical business practices. She is dishonest, a liar, and is unconcerned about the welfare of animals. You can read other reviews unrelated to mine and find other similar issues.
And let me take this one step further Miss «Star» — I am more than willing to come speak to you face to face if you continue to trespass against me and my baby as you have in the past. Period, end of story. Take the review you are owed with any slight degree of professionalism you believe you have. See ya

STEER CLEAR OF STAR GROOMING ON FIFTH

Star is simply the best in town — thank you for providing me great service all of these years — my little huxley is very happy every time he visits this little gem in Bankers Hill and Star has always done a top notch job — thank you!

Star has been has been a godsend in helping us keep our terrier mix looking good!
Our pup has a naturally wiry coat when it’s long, which always made him a little rough to cuddle with. Star was the first groomer we talked to that was willing to shave him so just his soft undercoat remains (while keeping his scruffy beard so he still looks distinguished). Now he looks great and we get compliments every time we take him out!

Did such a great job on my kitty! But i was told she was one of the wost cats to work on! After apologizing for her behavior i felt like kitty was not welcomed back.
I Took my pup there too for nail clipping and had no complaints. Such a convenient spot too. I wish my cat and the groomer vibed well or i would take her back :(but she seems great for dogs!

I had to do another review after our last visit last weekend. Once again, AMAZING. I absolutely love the owner and so does my dog. She always comes back happy as can be and groomed perfectly. I officially will not be going to any other groomers in the future.

Absolutely incredible grooming on my troublesome toy pomeranian, named Oreo. He looks runway ready for a very reasonable price. This is the only groomer I’ll ever trust and recommend.

I have been going to Star for awhile, and liked the way she cut my Cocker Spaniel’s hair. I even recommended someone to her. Yesterday, there was an incident that was unacceptable, and, in my opinion, should be made aware to other clients. It is a definite safety issue. Star left my dog alone with another dog for 15 minutes in a locked building while she took her own dogs for a walk. In a boarding place about a year ago, my dog had her eye scratched, and had to have surgery, because she was irritating another dog, and there were supervisors present. My dog is not perfect! When I called Star to talk about this, she was very defensive, and I did not have a chance to tell her about this incident. She sees nothing wrong with this policy, and refused to come up with another solution.

Quite simply: cuts are excellent, prices are fair, and my dog feels more comfortable here than any other place he’s ever gotten groomed. You can’t beat Star’s services!

Star is the best! My pup, Cassie, is not a princess, pure bred or beautiful but she’s ours and we love her. Star is very gentle with her and importantly, is wonderful at trimming Cassie’s toenails which grow very long (and quick) and are black. Because they are black, care must be taken to trim them without injury. Star is one of only a few groomers I trust to care for Cassie. What I also appreciate about Star is her professionalism, commitment to schedule and concern for customer satisfaction. She is a groomer of choice for those who love their fur people.

My sweet girl is terrified every time I take her to the groomer and absolutely traumatized by the time she leaves. I figured this would always be the case since she’s been like this since birth. When I picked her up from Star, she was wagging her tail and looked cuter than the cutest little button. I don’t know what she did, but star is the miracle-​working pet groomer of San Diego. There are dog whisperers. Then there is Star.
I was 100% pleased with everything about my pup’s groom except for the way her «beard» was trimmed. This was just my preference, and nothing Star did wrong. I kindly asked her to reshape my girl’s «beard» and she did so in a kind and beyond satisfactory manner. Whenever I have asked previous groomer’s to change something, they either 1) explain to me how what they did was far superior to what I could want (and proceed to argue with me), or 2) act like I am causing them a serious inconvenience and should feel ashamed to ask. I am not certain when customer service became a thing of the past, but with Star, it is present.
Before you become all judgy about the facial hair, I have a maltese-​yorkie mix. Anyone who is familiar with either breed knows both male and female have beards. And besides that, so what if my female dog wants to have a beard? It’s civil rights. It’s the 90s. (10 points if you caught the movie reference)
Star was and is a consistent joy to work with. She really has the softest heart for animals. I never have any hesitation leaving my girls (yes, I’ve added one to the family) with Star. She truly is a professional.
