It is not really a hotel they are apartments so there is no one staff. When we arrived the sheets were not clean. When we called they told us we could change them ourselves but there were no sheets to change them. They also said there would be no one to change them until the next day. And there was no way to get a refund.

Not your typical hotel — apartments, but good size for family or extended hotel stays. Some appear to be occupied by long term tenants. Easy to find and easy entrance to freeway. Check in and out is funky, needing to call and wait for manager/owner. Good: Large indoor space with full living area and outdoor patio, full kitchen, and in-suite laundry. The king size master bed was so comfy. Bad: Carpets are stained and dirty, window blinds are dirty and falling apart, kitchen needed a bit more deep cleaning, and second room bed was hard and uncomfortable. Owner never returned calls or texts concerning no hot water. Our entire stay we only had 2 hot showers. Hot tub was kind of warm so used that and the outdoor showers as a better option than freezing cold water in the suite. If on another long trip with the whole family, we would probably consider staying again because it offered the room, a laundry option, and decent location — basically it was practical. But if you’re looking for luxury, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

Guess I will be the first to review Sunshine Suites in La Jolla! The first thing to know is that this is NOT a freestanding hotel. This is a service which appears to rent out individual luxury apartments for short(or presumably long) term stays. So you will not check-in the usual way. Instead, someone(in our case, Matthew — one of the owners) will meet you at the lobby of the apartment complex. We received a very thorough tour of the apartment and the facilities. Matthew and his partner are extremely easy to reach anytime during your stay via email, text or cell phone. The apartment itself is very nice — large, with a kitchen(with pots/pans, utensil, plates, etc) and a sofa bed + large bed. The sofa bed and bed were already made with clean sheets. There was closet full of clean towels. The bathroom had all the usual hotel amenities. And finally — there was a washing machine with detergent. Free Wi-Fi. So essentially — we could move right in for the week. With 2 kids, this was an extremely convenient way to spend several days on vacation. There are several pools in the complex and a large park across the street. The location is a little out of the way(about 15 minutes to La Jolla Shores) but the convenience factor was worth it for us. Grocery stores are nearby. The price is comparable(even a little cheaper) than other suites in the area but definitely more convenient and nicer due to the attention to detail and the desire to provide excellent customer service. There are a lot of less expensive hotels out there but they wouldn’t provide the same space or convenience. I would stay here again!
