By far my favorite Sushi place in San Diego! Such great tasting sushi at amazing prices. Must try!

Waited 45 minutes and still no food. Ordered two simple Yakisoba plates. Watched three groups get seated after me and served first. I haven’t even gotten to eat yet but I’ve already got a bad taste in my mouth from the poor service.

Stopped by for a quick lunch and got the poke salad with salmon(waitress recommended it to me). It was SUPER refreshing and light, low cost($ 8), and it totally filled me up! Definitely would recommend and will be back!

I took my sisters here for sushi April 5, 2016. Our server Ryan was really nice and helpful. We ordered 1 Salmon Nigiri, 1 Hawaiian Roll, 1 Mama Mia Roll, 1 Dragon Roll, &1 Finger Licking Roll $ 36.16 not bad. The sushi was delicious we will be back for more!

The food has always been amazing and inexpensive, but they literally take forever. I ordered online with their Door Dash service, and they went to pick up my food(only three items) and the Door Dash employee waited over an hour to receive the food to deliver it. The phone system they use is out dated and not efficient to answer multiple calls. I called multiple times only to receive a busy tone, which is why had to resort to using the online Door Dash ordering. If I ever do go back to Sushi Deli 2, the only thing I’m ordering is Sake to get through the slow service. Update: my order that finally got delivered was wrong.

I stopped here for a quick bite before my class. Luckily it was happy hour which runs from 3pm-6pm. You get a $ 1 off craft beer, $ 4 sake bombs, they also have monthly specials on rolls. I sat in the bar area so no need to wait, however during the weekend it is much harder since the bar is so small. I got the Shrimp Killer roll(June Special) on soy paper. It was okay. Services was fast and attentive. It’s a good place for inexpensive sushi.

I just love this place. I have been here so many times, I can’t believe I haven’t written a review yet! I was there at 4pm on a Saturday and there was still a line for a table(even at that time!). Decided to sit at the bar. Great happy hour every day from 3−6pm. Can’t beat $ 3 draft beers! Today I noticed for the first time the lemon-pepper edamame. Really good! I usually get the garlic edamame which is also really good! Ceviche roll is by far one of my favorites along with the hot hot Mexican. Different kinds of rolls that you can’t find anywhere else and for such a low price! Mama Mia roll was okay but the pesto took over all the flavor. Keith roll is always a good staple to order.

Just tried the motion in the ocean roll. very good I like the little kick the jalapeño gives it but sometimes you get a really spicy one so watch out. Overall one of my fave spots in the area.

Solid sushi and selection for a good price. First time at this location. I’ve been to Sushi Deli 3 and all I remember was a super long wait at lunch time, kinda dirty outside and not that great. That was about a year ago, though. I placed a walk-in to-go order and it was ready in less than 10 minutes. I ordered the 4×4 combo with miso soup and a side of seaweed salad. It was a ton of food and two people could easily split it. It was a good variety or rolls at a good price.

Been coming here for a few years now also there other 2 locations and food is always very consistent. Always good orders come out fast and presentation is very nice. My fav drink is the sweetdreams which is sake and plum wine. Only complaint is there service is not the best other that that keep up the good work.

Sushi deli 2, Nom mom at an affordable price. This place is very delicious with a variety of food with a easy to read menu. Sometimes the menus are so hard to read that you kind of don’t know what you are ordering. Another thing is that the waiter was awesome. I forgot his name because I’m really not good at names, like what’s my friends sisters name? Anyway, the waiter was very friendly and was constantly checking up on us and making sure we had everything we needed. Overall I am happy with the food and the experience. The location is beat because the mall is next door and there is like a small park with a neat fountain.

Came here for around 3 – 4 for a late lunch, glad it wasn’t busy like it normally is during lunch hours. It was open seating, although I didn’t like the place we sat at, which were the high tables, but that is what they offered to seat us at. There was just too little space on the tables and I felt uncomfortable sitting up high on a stool chair. We got seated right away but they did not even offer us any water or menus, and we were just sitting there waiting for them to attend to us. So I had to asked and they just honestly forgot. Ordered the calamari and crab lagoons for appetizers, the calamari was good but not great. The crab lagoons was not what I was expecting, I thought there was going to be more cream cheese than crab, and the crab sort of overwhelmed it. But the dips that came with both appetizers were great! My boyfriend ordered the poke bowl with tuna… not the best poke bowl we’ve had. It was just lacking flavor, but had somewhat good toppings that came with it such as avocado, but it needed a sauce or something a little more tastier to add to it. He also ordered the snap and crackle roll, that was probably the best thing we ordered. I ordered the something fire roll, which had a tang of cayenne pepper which I regret ordering, the pepper was too much, I felt like the roll alone was good enough. I’m not sure if there will be a next time coming here, maybe for happy hour drinks but their food has decent pricing.

Decent food for the price. Happy hour beers and food items are good too. Service is decent for the price. Can get busy and loud.

I recently went here for my 24th birthday. Everyone agreed that sushi sounded appetizing and that it was a convenient location to go out from after. The staff was extremely helpful and professional, even on the phone when I called before. The waiter at our table gave us all the $ 4 drink special even though it was 5:58PM. I’ve seen other restaurants have the happy hour cutoff ten minutes before the actual time. The food was delicious and came out quick. I ordered seaweed salad, miso soup and a spicy tuna roll. I know this is a simple order, however I tasted many of my friends specialty rolls and they were all good! In summary, Sushi Deli 2 is a fun and tasty dining experience that I feel is almost as well known in San Diego as Balboa Park. To use an expression that I dislike, talk about the«bang for your buck» at this place. For good Japanese food with an American twist this place is cheap! Might not be for everyone, especially sushi snobs, however it should be tried at least once!

Hands down the only place to get your sushi fix when trying to stretch out that dollar or even have a good time! This place is open very late and the décor and friendly staff make the experience here wonderful to be at. I came here with my gf before we decided to go club it up at Parq Nightclub and there was a waiting list to get in… bummer :/ We still wanted sushi so we added my name and it was about 25min wait until we were seated and the line stretched out into the cold. As soon as we were seated it seemed all worth it to stand out in the cold for the place lol. Our server was very friendly and quick to take our orders. We ended up getting the edamame, 2 different cocktails and 2 different rolls which was really tasty! Our server was attentive and even checked up on us at all the right times which was very surprising to me, because this place was packed and busy and most restaurants that ive eaten at lags attentiveness when faced with a busy restaurant. Good job Sushi Deli 2! My gf and I had a great experience here, the only thing I didnt like was the bathrooms. It was pretty trashy and there was a pretty long line at the girls restroom that made one of the girls jump into the mens restroom after I had used it lol. I totally understand where she was coming from, did not bother me at all lol. Overall, service was quick and friendly and even after we left I already had plan on coming back to this place for lunch on another week when its not so busy. The only recommendation I would make, is to arrive at least 30min before you actually want to eat in case their is a wait list on the weekends. The weekdays, you should be find just to walk in.

Amazing food for a great price! The service can be a little slow at times, but not too bad considering the restaurant is downtown. Last time I went I ordered two appetizers and two rolls for about $ 15. Nothing better than leaving a restaurant fully satisfied for less than $ 20.

With Sushi deli 3 always being my go to spot I was kinda disappointed with this location. The staff didn’t seem to be enjoying their day and our order was on the counter longer than it should have been. Sushi Deli 2’s menu is different from the other two locations. With the menu being different it threw me off, but it was pretty neat-o as well. They have a Super Hadouken roll which was extra spicy and had this long piece of lettuce through it. They also have Tempura Tofu! It was delicious and actually tasted more like a desert. The inside is GLORIOUS! I will be sticking to my Sushi Deli 3 though. Their atmosphere and menu are more my style.

Looking for decent sushi on a budget? Then Sushi Deli is definitely your huckleberry! Is this the best sushi around? No. Can you absolutely gorge yourself on sushi and booze for $ 20? Yes!!! Moral of the story: if you’re bank account isn’t fat, but you want to be after stuffing yourself with sushi, head on down to Sushi Deli ASAP.

Thanks Postmate for delivering my food and thanks ‘G’ for paying for my food LOL. Thanks to postmate I didn’t have to wait in line to be seated. I ate from the comfort of my home. I really enjoyed the baked mussels and garlic edamame. The shrimp tempura and mexican salmon rolls tasted blah — I still killed it though. Anyway the food is Cheap and good quality sushi.

When my girlfriend and I first got together, she had not eaten fish in almost 25 years. She liked me enough to go out and try some sushi and I decided that her first foray into the cuisine should a dive place like the kind I had grown up upon. Staying in Colorado at the time, we went to a really horrible place in Denver, almost spoiling her against the whole thing. Thankfully, though, it eventually took and now, five years later, I was finally able to take her to a really great dive bar here at Sushi Deli 2. The atmosphere is fantastic, dingy in color and décor, but clean and cared for, tightly packed, but easy to get around, dark in lighting, but loud and alive. I loved walking inside and our table set in the center of the back room. Patrons ranged from all all ages and colors, talking and dining, laughing before leaning to strangers next to them to share a joke. It really was a lot of fun. We started with Salmon Nigiri, a staple we get everywhere we go. It was well packed, clean and fresh, though not as buttery and as thick of a cut as I would have hoped. Still, it wasn’t bad or disappointing, just not a hit out of the park. It was followed by a California Roll that fell into the same suit, well made, but not amazing; pretty much a good example of a simple dish. Then we had the Tuna Poppers, the worst thing of the night. They weren’t horrific, probably their biggest sin was not being exactly like the jalapeño rolls we would normally see at more familiar places, but they came to the table a little burned, the breading dark and dry, and served scalding hot atop a wilting leaf of iceberg lettuce(something I hate). Biting into them yielded a great burst of heat, but it was shadowed by the taste of the tuna; dry, almost like it came out of a Bumble Bee can and mixed with a little mayo. The whole of it was a bit off putting. Then came the Mama Mia, my beautiful love’s new favorite roll of all time. Essentially, it’s a shrimp tempura roll with a little bitterness brought from asparagus, a fresh coolness in salmon on top, and drizzled with a creamy pesto and toasted sesame that brings it all together. It really was delicious. We followed with a Philadelphia Roll, something my girlfriend always likes, and paired it with a Katie Roll. The Katie was essentially another Philadelphia, but with the salmon on top and replaced by shrimp tempura and avocado inside. The shrimp was served cold, making it a bit mealy, and casting a pall over the whole roll. It wasn’t bad, just outclassed by everything else. For me, though, the best of the night lay in the Red Dragon Roll. Another shrimp tempura with crab and cucumber on the inside, and seared eel and avocado layered across the top with a drizzle of sweet and spicy sauce with a little habanero masago and green onion to garnish. Holy crap, this was tasty! Not sure, for any that know sushi, what else I need to say other than the ingredients, to tout how yummy this was. So, downtown San Diego, not he outskirts of Horton Plaza, was Sushi Deli 2. I’ve been to 3, liked it quite a bit, and wanted to share the experience. Not sure if I’ll ever get the chance to come back, but I’ll certainly be in the mood to try if I’m ever driving by.

Yes, this place is conveniently located for those working in the area so it’s always packed during lunchtime. As far as taste goes though, you get what you pay for. I ordered the poke bowl with mixed fish and opted for no rice since they didn’t have brown rice. The fish had absolutely no flavor and everything from the fish to the salad to the dressing tasted watery. My friends both ordered the Shogun plate and substituted some of the ngiri for salmon. They were fairly satisfied with their choice considering substitutions were allowed but they both had the same problem with their side salad(which is an extra cost compared to just choosing rice or soup). Once again keep in mind you get what you pay for. Lesson learned for me: cheap sushi isn’t the best way to go…

Honestly as much as I Iove sushi places. This was a real disappointment. I would have thought considering the location downtown it would have been great. Since my wisdom teeth surgery I’ve had all 4 removed therefore eating certain solid food was limited. I ordered a chicken tempura udon however I was served an all veggie udon which I should have complained but figured it be better for mouth. The soup tasted very very bland like a bowl of hot water. There was no flavor from the veggies or noodles. The broth was just so plain that not even a whole spoonful of soy sauce made any difference. All I know is if you are going to give this place a try, avoid the udon.

Ok ok fine. I’ll write an update. As much as I hate them for messing up my lunch order that one time, I’ll give them that it’s the cheapest lunch around downtown if you didn’t want sandwiches or fast food. I still think the sushi deli in mission hills is the best. I figured out maybe don’t get any hot lunches here so you don’t have to wait 30 – 45 minutes for it. Also now that they accept phone and online orders, it makes it better. I will come here for only the sushi shogun special. It’s 2 cold rolls(rainbow and nigiris) and it’s pretty quick to make, you don’t have to cook anything.
