The customer service here is superlative. I’ve enjoyed the vegetable burrito wet, and the cheese enchilada. Both I’d definitely return for an encore performance.

HAIR on my FOOD: Look closer and you will see what i saw on my Cheese Quesadilla. Not that the management was even apologetic about such an experience. I was asked if i really need this replaced? Wow! PS– The churros is great though.

I love this place, but the middle aged woman who works here on the weekend, is SUPER rude. I saw her be rude to the customer in front of me asking for hot sauce, and then she was disrespectful to me right after. Instead of answering my question, she just pointed at a sign. And when I couldn’t find it on the sign, she just repeated, «It’s right there,» without answering me. This place is already in strong competition with Fiesta down the street. I can’t imagine why they would be so rude to customers. I’m really bummed. AS I’m writing this, I get my order, and I asked which of my orders has meat, because my wife is vegetarian. AGAIN, this woman is just cold and rude. «It’s there,» as I’m staring in the bag at two blank burritos with no writing. And then she turns around and walks away. WTF. I’m so annoyed.

Taco Express is my go to for a quick Mexican lunch. It’s a convenient location to walk to and they have much better customer service than other taco shops in the area. I appreciate that they have several vegetarians options, including lard free beans. Sometimes I worry about the cleanliness of the shop, but it’s a hole-in-the-wall place. That being said, I’ve never gotten sick from anything here(knock on wood!). They food is pretty good, sometimes items lack in flavor but it’s really hit or miss. Food comes out fast, I’d recommend going before 12 to avoid the lunch crowd. Cash only, ATM inside.

Always good at reasonable prices. We always get the machaca beef burrito. Huge for the money, very filling and tasty. The do take cash only so be prepared. Really friendly counter service, it’s mostly a takeaway place. Small eating area in the back but we always do takeout.

We were misled by the Unilocal reviews. This is so far the worst tacos I had in San Diego. I’d never come back here! The tacos were bland and felt flavorless! The saleswoman wasn’t nice at all. The store doesn’t do Taco Tuesday

We had Taco Express cater our wedding last month, and it was one of the BESTDECISIONSEVER. The food was absolutely incredible, and was so perfect for our wedding. Before choosing Taco Express as our caterer, we had a very hard time trying to find the right fit. We are vegetarian, wanted Mexican food, and needed to keep our budget low. It was also important for us to work with genuine people that really cared about making our wedding day special. Taco Express delivered 100% on all of those points: They have so many veg options, they don’t cook their vegetarian food with chicken stock or lard(Hard to find with Mexican food), the catering prices were beyond reasonable, and we LOVED working with the owner Celso. We ended up choosing to have mini cheese quesadillas & mini potato flautas as our appetizers.(The potato flautas aren’t even on the regular menu – He made them special for our wedding, since we were keeping the menu meat free.) We had rice, beans, chile rellano, cheese enchiladas, & potato flautas for our entrées. All of it was AMAZING. Taco Express also included condiments & everything needed to keep the food warm during the reception. Celso even drove up to the wedding venue himself(In Jamul) to prepare the dinner & buffet, to make sure that everything was perfect. And have I mentioned they DON’T use chicken stock in their rice. Or lard in their beans. After being insanely overwhelmed with how expensive catering for weddings is, it was refreshing to have Celso provide an affordable and reasonable price. He truly cared that we had a special day – Not about overcharging us with«wedding tax». I wish I could truly describe how rare that was in the planning process, and how special it was. He is truly a very kind and genuine human, and we are so thankful for him. No matter what – If you go to Taco Express for catering, or just their regular restaurant, you won’t regret it. Seriously some of the BEST Mexican food in San Diego!

AWESOME! Had the Breakfast plate with Eggs Rancho, beans, rice, and small salad. It was a huge portion for $ 5.75 and was outstanding. I cannot wait to come back for lunch or dinner.

I think this is by far the least interesting Mexican restaurant I have ever visited! The lady that works here is a mean, rude and arrogant! She charged us different amount for all three times that I purchased a bottle of water. Its not even like their food was amazing and I can disregard all the other things. I ordered the chicken taco, fish taco, chicken tamale and carnitas out of which only the fish from the fish taco was good. The chicken seemed like frozen chicken and barely had any flavors! Who misses out on lime in a Mexican restaurant for gods sake!!! I was mislead by all the Unilocal reviews and I will not suggest this place to anyone. San diego downtown has many better restaurants and this is not one of them!

I’m not Hispanic or Spanish so that may affect the validity of my review. I know what I like and I don’t like. I have come here twice and have had similar experiences. I most recently has the California Burrito. I figure when in California go with the burrito that the state got its name after. This burrito was a flipping monster. It will fill you up it mainly consists of carne asada, cheese, guacamole, and sour cream. It was very good especially when I squirted a dose of salsa from a bottle on every bite. Now I would agree the food isn’t spectacular but what lacks in food, the people make up for in personality! Very friendly folks each time I have stopped by. Frankly this place is much more appealing than the overpriced glop pawned off as Mexican over in the gaslamp district. Check it out for yourself.

Wow! The most friendly service I’ve had in a while! I’ve gone here twice in two days(love my vacation diet) and both servers were so helpful and sweet! I’ve tried the bacon and ham breakfast burritos with potatoes and hot sauce. They were both HUGE, filling and not greasy at all. Although I’d prefer dry to greasy, I’d probably add guac or salsa next time. I’d come here once a week for these guys if I lived around here. I also tried their chicken taco and carne asada burrito and they were both fresh and flavorful. This isn’t the kind of Mexican that fills you up and make you feel gross. They have a couple of tables on the sidewalk and a few in the back, but keep in mind that this place is very casual.

Driving around with a time limit we decided to try out take out from Taco Express. My husband ran in and was back out within 10 minutes. So it was a great option in a hurry… on a Thursday night. We got the tacos el pastor, a beef burrito, and 2 chicken enchiladas. The tacos and burrito were both good and with plenty of salsa had decent flavor. For the price they both came loaded with meat. The chicken enchiladas were as bland as they come which worked out for us as we have a 2 year old. Overall 2 stars for the food and 4 stars for speed.

I came to this awesome hole in the wall spot after a long day of walking around Comic-con. After being tired and hungry, this was a great home style meal at an awesome price. I ordered the shrimp rancheros with flour tortillas and it hit the spot! It was hard to tell if the food was great or if I was just hungry(probably just hungry), so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt with the full five stars. I actually ordered a breakfast burrito to go on my way out for an on-the-go meal tomorrow. Staff is very nice and service is quick. Nothing unique here, just good home made Mexican food. This place won’t disappoint.

This place totally blew me away with their excellent service, and delicious food. The line was out the door when we got here, but well worth the wait and it moved fast. Definitely hole-in-the-wall place, divy but overall, once you dive in and take the first bite from your burrito or tacos, you will come back for more. Just so you know, seats are towards the back with only a few tables. I suggest ordering in advanced if you are not dining in to save time. Until then, Cheers! ~ :p

You know when you order a pizza and would take a napkin and dab the oil off? Isn’t it weird that I did that to their carne asada burrito? This was by far the oiliest carne asada burrito… if I had to take a napkin to dab the oil off. The burrito itself wasn’t bad. The meat was pretty well seasoned with some pico and guacamole in it. On the bigger side, but the meat was just so oily. I probably will not come back because down the street you can get the same thing for less without all the oil at Mexican Fiesta. Taco express is far more efficient then Mexican Fiesta though, they can spit your order out pretty quickly without waiting for 20 minutes during busy times. The business owners and employee are extremely friendly though and provide exceptional service.

«Eh. it’s not bad.» I’d give it a 3.5 with a «might return if I needed to». It was a slow Friday. and even though I had hit up Taco Tuesday earlier in the week(elsewhere. not at Taco Express). I still had a hankering for tacos. One can never get enough tacos! I’ve seen the reviews for this joint and passed by it. so I decided to finally give it a go. Phoned in my order for the TJ street taco special(4 tacos– two with onions/cilantro, two with guac) and they had it ready by the time I walked over. $ 6.20 for the four tacos. TJ tacos do not have TJ prices. Overall, the meat was pretty tasty. but it wasn’t something mind blowing that would make me go out of my way. The hot sauce is delicious. I’d be curious to try other dishes there. It’s a cute little hut of a joint with some outdoor seating. Muy importante: cash only. The service is great — huge smiles and very polite on the phone. Efficient processing to get you in and out with your food. Overall, not bad. but not exactly a 5. I’d return for my taco hankerings. but there are definitely better joints in SD.
