Straight TJ style taco stand… And really good at that. I really assume this is a illegal operation. I am not one for rules so I am glad this amigo just goes for it. He is only open on weekend evenings… As there are no food inspectors at this time. Anyway… Very good/authentic TJ street tacos… We pulled up a party bus with about 15 gringos in it… The owner/operator/chef treated us well. Can’t wait to get back.

Let me first say, Unilocaling is fun. Checkin in and leaving tips are a hoot and a half. But discovering hidden gems, that’s a Unilocaler’s mission statement. After being dropped off at the adjacent tow yard to pick up my towed illegally parked car downtown, my fiancé and I discovered Tacos El Mitotero. This place is an actual taco stand that’s gifted in making some of the best street tacos I have ever eaten north of the border. The last time I had good street tacos were at another taco stand all the way down in Ensenada, Mexico. Run by a customer friendly couple, of chef Carlos and his wife Sandra, Taco El Mitotero makes mainly just street tacos, all of which a $ 2 each. My girl and I tried the adobada and the asada flavored tacos. Chef Carlos executed his culinary mastered grill with expertise, serving a just right pork adobada taco, enriched with spicy flavors. We definitely tasted the well blended red chili, oregano, and garlic in the adobada. He followed with an equally tasteful seasoned asada taco. A one two knockout punch on my card. BAM!!! with a touch of lights out. While chef Carlos grills, Sandra whipped up a fresh guacamole dip for us. So simple, and yet I often mess up. But under Sandra, we both were WoW! with its avocado taste accented by the lime juice, salt & pepper. Located on Commercial street across from the under construction trolley station on the orange line, Taco El Mitotero caters mainly to a select group of repeat customers within the local neighborhood. Hours are definitely limited, Tacos El Mitotero opens only Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 pm till midnight. For a foodie adventure in street food and the most authentic best south of the border experience just north of the border, drive to Taco El Mitotero. My fiancé and I hope to meet fellow Unilocalers there weekly as we try everything on the menu.
